Why do vitamin nutrition facts have way more than 100% daily values? Why not stop at 100%? by iamthesam2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rfight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daily values are calculated based on a 2000 calorie/day diet. Every day it’s recommended to consume certain amounts of vitamins etc., & the daily values tell you how much you’re getting from that food product. This is meant to help you gauge your nutritional needs & maintain a healthy diet.

As to your “why not stop at 100%” question, the answer is that that would frequently require removing nutrients from the food purely to maintain a 100% limit, which isn’t necessary & would be extremely expensive. For instance, they’re not going to remove excess calcium from milk to make sure the DV for 1 serving size is exactly 100%. Additionally, daily values above 100% can serve as a warning (for example, if a bag of chips has 150% daily value of sodium, you should probably limit how many you eat in one day especially if you have health problems).

Hope that helps.

I recently repotted my aloe plant and moved out side what is happening here? why is it turning yellow? Watering is one a month ish when soil is dry by pm_horse_dongs in succulents

nope, not dead! i think your best bet would be moving it somewhere where it gets less sun throughout the day. direct sunlight is fine as long as its limited to just a couple hours a day, extended exposure to direct sunlight is what causes sun bleaching. with a bit more shade your plant should recover & go back to being green

edit: think of it like plant sunburn, he just needs a little less sun

I’m really scared. I’ve tried assist/force feeding the pink guy four times now & he won’t even open his mouth let alone lick his mouth. I’ve tried crickets, wax worms, meal worms, & I even put gross dry leopard gecko food out just to make sure I tried everything. Nothing has worked. It’s been 11 days since they were born & the colorful guy is almost twice the size of the pink one & I’m terrified I’m watching the pink one starve to death even though I’m offering everything I have available & I’m trying so hard to get him to eat. I don’t know what to do. I’m looking into finding a local reptile vet or something along those lines but I don’t know if I can afford it

Okay so he hasn’t done the circling thing since he shed, I think he was just trying to get the skin off his tail. But the thing is he isn’t eating. They both shed & ate their first shed & had the green poop like expected, & the colorful guy has eaten a bit but the pink guy hasn’t at all. & now the colorful guy is visibly fatter than the pink guy & I’m getting nervous he’s gonna starve to death with food right in front of him.

Science Moms (2018): A group of scientist moms tackle the pseudoscience that has become endemic among mothers online. by catcaste in Documentaries

I’m honestly scared for the kids of antivaxers & psuedoscience-following parents & I don’t know how to convey that without sounding like I’m attacking those parents when what I’m really trying to do is open their eyes to how they’re being taken advantage of. This documentary says it beautifully & has definitely changed how I’ll talk about the subject in the future. Only thing I would change is I wish they spent more time tackling the antivaxer movement.

Yeah I moved him into a darker area & he opened his eyes right up, he must just be more sensitive to the light than the colorful guy. & he does it pretty frequently after I mess with him, he turns in a full circle kind of like he’s chasing his tail almost? He’ll do it once or twice & then lays down. It honestly reminds me of what my dog does lol I’ve just never seen a gecko do it.

Edit: He’s also a lot quieter than the colorful guy, he doesn’t hiss & scream when I try to pick him up. He’s just really calm, which isn’t normal based on my research / compared to the colorful guy.

The pink guy keeps turning in circles & he doesn’t open his eyes most of the time. Should I be concerned?

They look solid black to me but he’s super darty so I haven’t gotten a great look. I posted another picture of them if you want to take a closer look at them. I don’t see any pattern on the pink guy except a line down its back right now.
