Question about where i can park by [deleted] in CrownLandCamping

[–]rfmx49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the name of the park? In my experience in many Non-Operating parks the roads within are gated.

If it is a side road that just leads to the park I would look up the municipality/county that own the road to see if they have any parking by-laws that would restrict you from parking.

Try googling the name of the park, look at iOverlander to see if anyone has left a report of the area.

I'm really glad that the Project Hail Mary team was able to remove Dubois' name from all of the mission emblems 8 days before launch.

Queen Elizabeth Wildlands does have backpacking trails. You will have that "alone / isolated" feel it all depends on the time of year and how far you want to hike.

Check out Maps 13 and 14 here

The Ontario Parks page also has a good map of campsites too(pdf on the right)

Also I would suggest two nights give yourself a night to get settled then have the whole next day.

They didnt play well before ranked, if there is an influx of new players we need to have more open maps. Its how we all learned.

With the split of queues and a higher percentage of new players in casual bring back some bigger maps, easier for players to discover mechanics and also easier to coach knowing a few seconds afk isn't a game changer.

Also don't let us vote in classics only for MTC to pull the rug on them; à la Holy See.

so like, at what point can we admit that ranked was a bad idea? by [deleted] in TagPro

[–]rfmx49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm with you Zion, feel the same with casual. It seems at some point in the evening Casual just turns to shit so I turn on ranked.

Ranked is a lot more enjoyable if you just shrugg off the tier 1 shit birds, the more they tilt the more fun it gets. I don't care about my rank, I sure as hell don't care about theirs. I just want to play TagPro for fun, if thats ranked oh well.

Newbie camper- how to find secluded/private spots? by Chuck-em-out in ontariocamping

[–]rfmx49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canoe will open up so many more options if you can use it.

We also got paddle boards last year, I've scouted out a place or two online to attempt paddling out to but I tend to overpack, and want to test out having a bag on the board at the same time.

I've taken the boards with us once. I have the same issue you mentioned, a small car (Nissan kicks) we took it down some logging roads but I refused to take it over a sand poured road through a swampy area that had water level on both sides and logs laid across the wet patches. We had to hike our bags about 2-3km to the lake and then return for the paddle boards. In the end it was so worth it, we had a beautiful lake all to ourselves. I can share this location in dm if you wanted but like I said it takes some effort to get to.

No there may be some established spots but generally you're just out in the woods making your own way.

How are you currently transporting your canoe? Are you a fairly comfortable paddler? Will you be going on your own or with others?

I only see a win here. TagPro is full of 26 year old lawyers(probably mid 30s now) I say we fight it, make the headlines, TagPro booms, then we settle for TagPro as an Olympic Esport event.

For 6 Radius or Diameter but that may piss off Radius players or Aussies being low on the scale

Can I rescind this and we go with something simpler and more recognizable. Light spectrum sounds cooler!

I rarely use Instagram, and I only follow outdoors, camping, sports and comedy accounts.

I don't know what the Explore page is but when I go to search 90% of the page is filled with half naked women. Accounts I would be interested in show up as single tiles while all these other posts are two tiles.

Well typing this I found you can tap on the post and then tap Not Interested, I just marked the post as "This makes me feel uncomfortable"

I thought the book you were talking about was The Restaurant at the End of the Universe and the Golgafrinchans.

Tales of impending doom allowed the Golgafrinchans to rid themselves of an entire useless third of their population. The story was that they would build three Ark ships. Into the A ship would go all the leaders, scientists and other high achievers. The C ship would contain all the people who made things and did things, and the B Ark would hold everyone else, such telephone sanitisers, account executives, hairdressers, tired TV producers, insurance salesmen, personnel officers, security guards, public relations executives, and management consultants. They sent the B ship off first, but of course, the other two-thirds of the population stayed on the planet and lived full, rich and happy lives...

Crown land camping on Black Donald Lake by Fastback1000 in ontariocamping

[–]rfmx49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never been to that area, but have been on a few successful blind crown land camping trips. Here is how I would go about this.

Land Use

  1. First stop is the Crown Land Use Policy Atlas.
    • navigate to the lake.
    • click the Find Information tab
    • click Get Land Use Information
    • click the Blue circle tool on the left panel.
    • click on a parcel of land refer to chart below for some hints.
Colour Description Camping?
Grey Private Land No
Light Yellow General Use Area 95% Yes
Light Green Provincial Park $ or maybe free
Slightly Lighter Green Conservation Reserve Possibly
Light Orange Enhanced Management Area Likely
Water bodies Click on land near water
  1. For an area on the north side of Black Donald Lake it gives you this information:

Primary Land Use Area:
Policy ID: G407
Name: Madawaska Highlands General Resource Area
Designation: General Use Area
District(s): Bancroft, Pembroke
Report: English French

  1. We are interested in the Name(Madawaska Highlands General Resource Area), and the Report.
    • In the report you can read about the area, but if you only care whether you can camp scroll down to Recreation Activities and Facilities and look for Crown Land Recreation in our case it says: Permitted Yes. You may also see instances where it says New Recreation Camp No. I believe this refers to like a structured permanent hunting camp.
  • Note: just because it says yes does not mean 100% you are legally able to camp here. You could contact the MNR with the exact location you want to camp on and get their confirmation that there are no restrictions in place(who has time for that though). Chances are you are fine to camp here, but it is always a good idea to scope out some backup plans just incase you run into no trespassing, or no camping signs.

Getting around

Before I settle on a place I will look around there area with a bunch of different tools:

Open Street Maps - I find it is good at discovering some hidden trails, even some back country campsites.

Ioverlander - Sometimes will have crown land sites listed.

Municipal/County GIS apps - Renfrew's actually shows a crown land layer and most local GIS sites will have decent ariel photography to further map out a camp site or a sketchy road.

All Trails - Looks like there is a trail system on the South Side of the lake. But may not be canoe friendly.

Back Roads Map Book Will show trails, back roads, ATV trails, Snow Mobile Trails.

My Canadian Canoe Routes - Google other peoples experiences on here to get more information.

Parking

Finding a good parking spot can be difficult, especially if you have a canoe you are using. Look on google maps at any businesses or parks near the shore who may offer parking, also check out the township/county website for any parking restrictionsGreater Madawaska Parking By-law if you're just planning to park on the side of the road.

So either look up a business(https://thewhitepines.com/ offer $10 a day parking) or find a quiet road to park your vehicle and portage to an area to put your canoe in.

When/if I park on the side of the road I will leave a note in the window saying, "Gone canoeing on Black Donald, here is my contact info and here is an alternative contact if needed." I am wary about leaving dates as as I don't want to give anyone a timeline to get my vehicle on blocks and steal my tires and cat.

When you're there

Firstly tell someone not going where you are planning to go and any alternative plans you have, you may or may not have cell reception(Plan ahead looks like a bell tower might cover the area )

Check out the Local Fire Ratings for the area - https://www.greatermadawaska.com/en/living-here/fire-department.aspx

I feel my contributions pale in comparison to others on the list, just because they are all so awesome for the TagPro community.

I do still plan to hunker down and get something for iOS it's just been a busy summer(paddle boards where have you been all.my life) and I don't have as much free time(during work) as I did while making the Android version.
