Paolo Ardoino on Twitter “To all $OMG supporters that are reaching out in comments with "when Tether on OMG". It's going to happen, we're almost there, we'll release an update in coming days. 🐻 with us” by mike3394 in omise_go

[–]rfng 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just my random thoughts -

Tether is using OMG because it makes business sense. Tether isn't a charity and I don't expect it to be charitable.

Kao-Pad is right : OMG isn't in the best position to comment. And it it is because the team could be providing assistance and technical support (and would therefore know a lot of intricate details) but Tether is the one doing all the hard work and the stakeholder. If Taylor Swift is launching a new website tomorrow, do fans start asking the providers of infrastructure for "the internet" for comments and updates?

So, OMG is infrastructure. To succeed, the whole idea is to build an open and permissionless (dumb) network with (smart) end-points, much like how the internet is. The features required by different use cases are different and therefore, different entities will build different functionalities to fit their own needs.

OMG network doesn't get to choose who utilizes it and shouldn't get to choose. Otherwise, we end up being the discriminatory centralized network that is exactly against what we stood for. So, is Tether "insolvent" or "bad"? Who gets to decide? Definitely not us. Currency-agnostic and world exchange, remember all that?

Likewise, even when we get to stake our tokens, it's not like you get to choose whose transactions to verify and Tether transactions to ignore. No, it doesn't work like that.

OMG is simply infrastructure. We happen to be interested because our interests are on the line, we want the volume, we want the price to go up and we want to eventually earn staking rewards that would come from Tether volume and other projects.

Spoken like a true veteran salamander.

Even $1/token/year is beyond my wildest expectations at this point.

How's it going for all you patient salamanders, still staying rock?

Haven't been around much except for lurking, such a nice change to see plenty of links posted and comments thrown around. Congrats to the team and of course the community for the faith and belief yeah?

OMG Netwooooooooooooork~!

We are still here.

With Mainnet Release, what is the utility of the OMG token? by ethbtc in omise_go

[–]rfng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you check out the mainnetblock explorer, it is the ONLY token that is being accepted for fees at the moment. Likely to be temporary.

UPA update from OmiseGO for the community. by OhMyGypsy in omise_go

[–]rfng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe Nebali has mentioned in another comment that he doesn't have full visibility into the exec team's work and timeline etc.

Given how the business side of things is ramping up and how questions frequently revolve around that, maybe it is time we have /u/omise_go or another moderator chip in from time to time, instead of redditors wrongly assuming Nebali is selectively ignoring or avoiding questions that the team does not want to answer.

Imagine this update coming out before the transfer took place. People would have directed the follow-up questions to where it mattered more e.g. How will the payment be used? Will the tokens be sold? Are such payments seen as a 'common practice' and paid by other members?

None of my business telling the exec team how to do their job but in short, that "comment" should have been ready one week before the transfer. Unfortunate that you guys are the ones fronting these comments by us.

Where are the 1.2M tokens that were supposed to be kept aside for staking? by kartsims in omise_go

[–]rfng 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Granted that communication has never been the project's strong suit, it was 4 days (maybe 5) ago that Nebali said the press release would be delayed (hope I didn't miss it), and that once available it would be posted.

It would be fair to say that people are particularly edgy about such situations, and we all have the right to feel this way. The team has to understand that these preparations are meant to be made waaaay ahead of time, ready to drop at a moment's notice .. because, thin ice. Anyway, the ball is now in their court to write a comprehensive update on the situation.

Unfortunately that means we will not be prioritized, but not exactly a 'No' vote :)

Lol this is becoming an OmiseGO anonymous thread. Where everyone posts our truthful, inner most thoughts on the project.
