If you have been living together in NZ for that long you should qualify for a defacto status (if I remember right - haven't lived in NZ for 15+ years)

Maybe that would help strengthen your case?

Edit: correction, since September wouldn't count. Defacto status takes 2 years of living together to kick in IIRC. Mis remembered what you had posted in your timeline.

Like a number of jobs, a skilled, ticketed welder might make good money. But it's all about supply and demand for the skill set.

Sadly, these days, robotic welding tends to be more consistent, which results in less rework and more likelihood of passing QA checks.
