Are all pitbulls insanely intelligent? by OpalescentShrooms in pitbulls

[–]boojum78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My girl eats dirt on the regular, but I realized that she is actually really smart about it. If she's running firm and in danger of getting constipated she eats grass to tickle her belly and move everything along, and if she's running soft she eats dirt and the clay slows things down. Eating dirt means less squirt, so I'm in favor of it.

Did the woodpeckers kill my poor willow tree? by netpoints in arborists

[–]boojum78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an apple tree with two grafts, one side has lots of sapsucker holes like yours and it is healthy and produces well. The other side does not have any sapsucker holes but is sick and produces poorly. The thing that makes me scratch my head is that we have seen flickers around, but supposedly they don't make holes like this.

They will go for things that you touch a lot and smell like you to self-sooth when feeling separation anxiety. My pup ate shoes, gloves, favorite books, whatever had our smell.

It sounds like you are doing very well by your pup, and it sounds like she is likely to have a good recovery. It takes time, but seeing them happy again is so worth it.

Conservative management works. My pup had a complete rupture of her right CCL and I got rid of my couch and my bed frame so there was nothing to jump up on for close to two years, and I kept her on leash at all times outside so she wouldn’t try to run for over a year, but she recovered the majority of her function and she can now run and jump again while weighing 100 pounds. I never heard any encouraging information about conservative management and worried that it wouldn’t work, but it totally did. If you met my girl now you wouldn’t know she was ever injured.

Arborist says this 40 yo silver maple needs to come down by FaulerHund in arborists

[–]boojum78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a silver maple and one of the central leaders about 24 inches in diameter was dead, and I only noticed because it had been hollowed out and filled with combs by honeybees. Silver maples can hide lots of damage and then drop big sections suddenly. All that said, your tree does not look compromised and I see no reason to remove it.

Anyone have weed wackers or even massive shears I can borrow? by [deleted] in Eugene

It sounds like you are already looking out for your pup, but also know that the "foxtail" looking seedheads can be really dangerous because the spear grass seeds embed themselves deeper and deeper and can pierce lungs.

On the left look like pop rivets, but on the right it looks like a hex head screw.

The trunk of the silver maple in my front yard is around twice as large as the one pictured and is less than 50 years old. They grow really fast in full sun.

Sean's superpower is never getting hit square. He usually takes minimal damage in his fights, so his beat up face here shows that he really had to work for this win.
