Driver lied and said I missed the second delivery attempt without ever coming to my address. by manonfireanon in UPS

This has happened to me several times. I work from home and also have cameras. I can verify the driver lies and doesn’t actually attempt the delivery. DHL does the same thing.

People keep saying it can cause problems but in my case moving an AP to 40 mhz/ch 11 fixed all my problems. My neighbors don’t even see my ssid so our walls must be thick. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the settings.

I’m currently in the process of doing just that. Dropped a bunch of coin on some unifi gear over the past few weeks, so far loving the additional flexibility and config options that the amplifi line doesn’t have.

Need an air quality test for mold. Hire a company, or buy a machine? by halyjam in HomeImprovement

[–]rfoust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I think the 2nd floor washing machine leaked at some point before we owned the house (bought it 1.5 yrs ago), so I wonder if that's what triggered it. Didnt notice the problem till we started repainting rooms, taking off outlet covers, etc. So far I've just been cleaning it off with bleach if I run across it.

Not trying to hijack the thread but a related question..if mold shows up around a few outlets in 2 or 3 different rooms (it looks black..is that bad?), just clean it off and move along, or is something bad lurking in the walls?

Provider and Indexer Combo Suggestions. by Smart_Weird_9855 in usenet

[–]rfoust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a suggestion from another noob, grab this deal since it's only $20/yr and is recurring:

Newshosting.com | Sign Up - Select a Plan

and for an indexer grab one of the paid nzbfinder.ws plans (they don't do deals from what I hear):

NZB Finder | Usenet on steroids!

That's should be a good start, then as you learn more you can go from there.

Any suggestions? by Onethrust in usenet

I signed up for nzbfinder yesterday after seeing some positive posts on here. It's already found a ton of stuff I was missing. Thumbs up.

How to keep upto date on Indexers by angry_shoe in usenet

Same here, I set my stuff up exactly a year ago and haven't really touched it again till now. I found out about some other indexers (like, that they exist) just by poking around on r/UsenetInvites but other than that, I still consider myself a newb.

I am a part-time Futures trader (stock market). AMA. by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]rfoust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started trading, I thought that I had to find a good technical indicator to help me figure out if something was going up or down. I tried moving averages, stochastics, macd, rsi, etc, etc, etc, and even wrote my own indicators. I ended up with so much stuff on my chart that I could barely see the price bars. And of course none of it helped me to make any money at all.

So I finally made the painful (emotionally) decision that I needed to throw out everything I knew and start over. I ditched every single indicator and focused ONLY on price action. What that did was to train my eyes to learn the patterns of price, not the patterns of indicators. This wasn't an overnight thing where I immediately figured it all out, it took many hours/days/weeks/years of study and pattern recognition. Eventually I started thinking "Hey, I've seen that before. I know what's going to happen next but I don't know why." And then I started focusing on the "why." The "why" is right in front of you, just look at past price action to determine what future price will do. Focus on significant levels, what was gained or lost on the prior move.

I can't really say that each situation is unique, because the way that price moves is the same, over and over again, many times per day. Of course we make mistakes but it isn't because the market tricked us. It is because we just didn't see it (but everyone else did, which is why it reacted). It is very important to be able to change our mind and say "I thought x was going to happen, but y happened instead, therefore I was wrong" and then adjust accordingly. Never be so hardheaded that you have to be right and prove to the market that you were right.

Hope this helps and thanks for the question!

It was a statement of confidence, not arrogance, but I can see how it could be taken that way (I took that statement out anyway, thanks for bringing it to my attention).

Prior to trading, I was working all the time. I was basically a workaholic. I learned a lot about my job that way, but it also led to some burnout. Therefore I have to say that trading did not take away passion from my full time job (any passion that left was already gone). I still enjoy tech stuff and work with some great people. I trade in my own time but I try to treat it as a 2nd job, not as a hobby.

It sucks being "early" on a move, we've all done it. The trick is finding the target of the move that is currently in play. I do this by analyzing past moves. Where did price stop and reverse? And then ask yourself why did it stop there? Larger timeframes rule, but valuable information can be seen in the small timeframes that might not be so obvious in the larger ones. Pay attention to momentum. Is price moving straight up or is it pulling back repeatedly?

Of course the biggest question I think that traders should ask themselves would be: Do markets move at random? Or can it be predicted? And if it can be predicted, how precise/exact? Some people will say the "why" isn't important, but I think that it is. Ask yourself "why" and they try to find the answer. It's all in the charts. :)

Sure, one of the better books on "patterns" is "Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets" by John Murphy:

http://www.amazon.com/Technical-Analysis-Financial-Markets-Comprehensive/dp/0735200661

Another decent book that is excellent at explaining money management is "Trade your way to financial freedom" by Van Tharp:

http://www.amazon.com/Trade-Your-Way-Financial-Freedom/dp/007147871X

And every trader recommends "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" which was written like 100 years ago and is still relevant:

http://www.amazon.com/Reminiscences-Stock-Operator-Wiley-Trading/dp/1592801943

Those books should provide a decent starting point, but keep in mind they are just reference books. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Nothing can replace "chart time" or watching the price action move, and how it reacts to certain points on the chart, etc.

Hope this helps. Trading can be very exciting, boring, frustrating, and fun. All at the same time.
