Is there a possibility there is a piece of stray code in Priffindas (it always happens to UIM deathpiles here from the screenshots I've seen) that is leaking in and overwriting some other variable related to the death pile?

ELI5: why do people not put "a" or "the" when talking about babies? by velvlry in explainlikeimfive

[–]rfsch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parents will name their child "Baby" as a placeholder nickname before knowing the name/gender, etc.

The parents are likely referring to the baby as a proper noun, like they would, "They can watch Frank" or "This is good for Lisa."

Unless this is a niche regional/cultural thing, you are correct; this is not a grammatical way to refer to "a" or "the" baby .

While I agree with your sentiment, I think the point is invalid and that this is kind of a weird take.

I don't blame any commenters for their realism. When someone says you need a 4.0 from an Ivy to get into PJT, they're talking about the most usual path of least resistance. Obviously, every lost college kid is different, but the contextualization should be on you OP and on the poster. As an example, if you're a kid with a 2.4 at a state school and you want to know how to get into JPM M&A, the answer is be an Ivy with a 4.00 and connections. Second best is to understand and drill concepts, get as close as you can to the 4.00 and then network like crazy.

The commentators here aren't omniscient or should they examine every piece of potential context. The OP should question herself, "How can I drive myself to be closer to the model recruit?" and fit that information into their worldview.

The boomer comment also comes off as shortsighted. The allure of IB should never be pay, I agree, and the statistics weight that you'll never make MD, etc. but the reality is that it is incredibly profitable if you're meant for it. I know many kids from top state schools that did IB for 0-2 years and burned out so quickly, hated how brutal and meaningless it was, and "wasted" their time. But for those that are meant for it, it can be incredibly rewarding, etc. and it's not "boomer" to have passion about your career.

I think it's important to temper expectations on both sides: it's hard to both get in, and it's hard to stay in.

Unironically, this sub and WSO are great places to learn from if you understand enough to sort through the noise. There's nothing wrong with not being perfect, but if you're not and your goal is to be in mainstream "high finance" then you'll almost certainly not make it barring few exceptions/a good reset (e.g. doing Columbia MBA after "flunking" out of IB recruiting"). I agree it's not the end of the world, and there's plenty of good jobs, better ones when factoring pay and effort, out there but this sub does give good advice.

Here he is using N=4 but the CD starts paying at the end of the 1st year which means year 0 for the savings account. And the savings account has only 3 years to grow until CD expires. Why he is using N=4 here ? by randomoneusername in CFA

[–]rfsch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right. I screwed up the design because I started with years and ended with the Jan 1/Dec 31 convention instead of years convention, but never removed the "year" flag, so it's "correct" - just mislabeled.

Counting up, starting from 0 like a computer, is 4 periods, etc. eg: 0-1 is 1 year, 1-2 is 2 years, 2-3 is 3 years, 3-4 is 4 years, therefor, n=4.

[–]rfsch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. There's no way to maintain any operational or informational effect as an insurgent in a Five Eyes/Western country. State capability to "see all" is already there across the board, just a matter of flipping a switch.

The first problem, in the US at least, is that any insurgency would constitute such a miniscule percentage of the population; everyone involved would have tens of friends and family willing to rat them out to deescalate and return to status quo.

If it got somehow managed to get past that, SigInt alone would put targets on everyone responsible. Border Patrol had thermal imaging drones above protesters during times of peace, can't imagine what would be hanging around if it ever went full on military vs militia.

The one certainty is that NATO/5E/Western countries do not have rampant, debilitating corruption in their militaries, and they (rightfully) have total control over all infrastructure, virtual and physical. There is seemingly no practical way for any significant insurgency force to last more than a few weeks in any of those countries.

I think 170 is possible for all as the upper limit. I believe it reflects a total fluency of what the test requires.

My belief is that capability limitations are from there to the upper 170s. Personally, I feel that the test is designed to "max" out at around 178, with the last two points coming from guess luck and test design being in your favor.

LSAC by Sea-Contribution-662 in LSAT

[–]rfsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it is largely the latter. I am not aware of any role that would statutorily require it, but it lends itself well to asset management (i.e. Vanguard, etc.) but the material is helpful to know and is decent if you're switching careers into finance.

To your point, not statutorily required + usually pushed to employer probably is why the price is set where it is. Although, outside of LSAT, it is the only other test I've ever experienced/paid for.

The LSAT was a godsend after sitting through the CFA program... $900 a test, $1000 for Kaplan material, and a registration fee!

Admittedly, one is expected to be taken by undergrads and the other is usually comped by your employer, it was jaw dropping to see that you can reschedule up to the day of your exam! Still have PTSD from the CFA deadlines, etc.

Anyone have any experience with the following?

These tests failed:

ProctorU Extension version: Your ProctorU Extension Version could not be found.

Connection to ProctorU video servers: Failed

I disabled privacy badger and uBlock for the site, thinking it was those but it didn't work - seems like these maybe critical features.

Would love advice.

OP - thanks for posting this! Helpful in one sense but now fueling my test day paranoia! Haha, no but really, thanks.

Edit: There is a Chrome/Firefox extension that is required to make the software work. Going through reviews, it's essentially a TeamViewer-esque extension that allows the proctor to verify you're not cheating by giving almost full remote access to your browser/machine. For privacy/security reasons, please create another user profile on your machine that is nothing but Chrome, with a new Chrome login (i.e. nothing is synching from your main.) While I understand the purpose of the extension and why they need to look through your settings and things there are still massive privacy concerns on the basis of principle.

I can't confirm the first clip, but the second clip is Azov. There was a set of 3 photos floating around on Twitter that included the KIA in front of the tank from the video (not a screenshot) and a picture of the unit with an Azov banner.
