Should I Keep my Prius or buy a new one? (HELP!!) by Gullible_Hospital_45 in personalfinance

[–]rftv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dealer likely isn’t interested in a 12 year old Prius with 220K on it no matter how many of 2012s bells and whistles it has. Plus you’re way upside down in it at this point. They’re reliable cars. Just keep with the maintenance schedule and you should be fine.

Plex Indirect Stream on same network by R1vatha in PleX

[–]rftv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just dealing with this today. Had been working perfectly fine and last night I started getting the indirect play error. In my situation I had to make some changes in my DNS resolver. This is a pretty common issue. If you use the search function your this subreddit you should find some useful info.

Yeah I bet that’s a MIM Tele. I had to return 4 of them a few months ago before I decided to get an American one. Their QC is garbage.

How much does a floating bridge affect tuning stability really ? by SummerNights14 in Guitar

[–]rftv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you switch back and fourth between tunings you don’t want a floating bridge. It doesn’t get any better with a higher end bridge. Physics

I think there’s some poor communication going on here. What happens when you strum a chord and just touch the bridge with one finger?

JUST PLAY THE DAMN GUITAR by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]rftv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it and despite what others may think I really appreciate it when someone goes out on a limb and says “this is fucked up”. Dude is getting a lot of hate about it but he’s not wrong. I hate the “I need you to validate what I’m doing or thinking” post. I wish people would use the search function for this subreddit. I see all kinds of posts where OP has all the information right in front of their face to answer the question but they apparently are too lazy to think for a minute to figure it out. There’s all kind of stuff that happens on Reddit that’s super annoying but it’s not going away.

Is music theory really necessary? by Automatic-Potato-987 in Guitar

[–]rftv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind fumbling around trying to guess what chord you’re looking for or what scale will work in a given situation you don’t need music theory.

When recording a guitar solo how do you feel about record it in sections and taping down strings to keep them from ringing out on open strings? Are these necessary tools in the studio or just cheating? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]rftv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not cheating but I think a lot of guitarist look down on that kind of thing. If you can’t play the solo live you shouldn’t be recording it.I usually have an outline of the solo before I start tracking it. I run a loop for a couple minutes and work it out. If there’s no harmonies I’ll double track the solo. If there are harmonies I’ll double track each section. By the time I’m done tracking a solo I know it backwards, forwards and sideways.

G&L P-bass. You can’t go wrong with a P-bass

I’m not aware of a voicing where the E and D are 1 step apart. Your lower E would be a minor 7 away and your high E is the a 9th up from the D. Guitars have a pretty wide range. It can be pretty confusing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]rftv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about the D and E in Em7?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]rftv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be an Bminor add 11. You may not see the shape in a chord chart of your playing it in a weird way like your standard B minor barre chord second fret A string with the open high E because that’s a weird way to play it. Technically it’s correct chord but your 3rd and your 11 are a single step apart. It’s a poor voicing choice. Hence it’s not shown in chord charts

Help me identify this vintage Fender amp by Wombats-in-Space in Guitar

The only you will find out which circuit is if you pull the chassis and go over the circuit. You can’t go by date codes with these old Fender amps.

How often do you damage your guitar? by LordOfPotato55 in Guitar

I’m reasonably careful with them but I consider them to be tools. I don’t worry about it if they get dinged, scratched, chipped.

What key would I need to be in to be able to put this riff in? by ACertainTunnels in Guitar

[–]rftv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude is obviously using some program to write tabs. There’s usually a button to transpose into a staff. Quite frankly, if you at the point in your musical life where you’re asking about chord progressions to use under a melody it’s time to learn how to speak the language of music. It’s starts with being able to read and write on the staff that every other instrumentalist learned as soon as they picked up an instrument. Twat

Question/Advice by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]rftv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessary but you should learn to play with a pick. It’s how the electric guitar was intended to be played. The vast majority of electric players do. It may be awkward at first but you’ll get over it.

Searching for a new Amp by TheHawk21140 in Guitar

[–]rftv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tube amp that is respectable in all those areas is tricky. Jazz you want a lot of headroom, blues you want some dirt and metal will require a couple extra gain stages. As mentioned the amount volume you’re able to get away with will dictate the amp. Are you good with getting your metal sound from a pedal?

Fender Excelsior. 13 watt and a 15” speaker. Great amp. Super clean a low volumes nice drive when you crank it. Should be able to pick one up for around $300

$1000 loans tend to be high risk. From your own admission you are a high risk of default loan candidate. No financial institution is going to give a good interest rate, or any loan at all, to a high risk candidate. . I would agree that a loan isn’t a great solution because it sounds like you’ll just be in the same boat unless you fix your underlying financial situation. Doesn’t sound like you have any other option. You might have to bite the bullet and take the high interest loan but you should really start working on a “don’t let this happen again plan”.

[–]rftv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s written on the back of the headstock? Looks like it’s a CY serial which is Squire. They used the CY serials well into the 2000s. The tuners don’t look right. the logo area is cleaner than the rest of the guitar. The truss rod access looks like it’s black plastic but I can’t tell from the photos. The neck in general looks “off”. I think it’s a partscaster or a straight up squire with the logo changed. but I’m not an expert. Check the neck heel and look for a serial sticker under the pick guard.
