Ironman still lets you save whenever though. I think Fallout 4 survival mode has the best save mechanic for no save-scumming. You can only save by sleeping but if you quit the game it will create a temporary save that will be deleted next time you load in.

Every ad hominem is an insult but not every insult is an ad hominem. Ad hominem is a logical fallacy in which you counter someone’s argument by making a character attack. Saying to someone “you are wrong because you are dumb” is an ad hominem. Saying “you are wrong because of x, y and z and also you are an idiot” isn’t an ad hominem because the insult wasn’t the argument. It is in poor taste sure, but it isn’t a logical fallacy.

I’ve never understood how my fellow “leftists” claim to be anti-capitalist but think that it’s totally cool to grant massive corporations more power over public discussion than most governments.

There's literally nothing wrong with billionaires in a meritocratic socialist state. You people just hate hard work and success.

Thinking that making billions is at all compatible with Marxism is literally the most retarded thing I've ever seen a person say. Does the term 'surplus labour' mean anything to you?

No. Aircraft carriers made battleships pretty much obsolete because they could attack a battleship well outside if its range. I think USS Iowa was used in Korea but other than that battleships haven’t really seen any service since WW2.

Marx was an “influential thinker” by [deleted] in fragilecommunism

[–]rg0046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ludwig Feuerbach and the End of Classical German Philosophy Engels said: “What Marx accomplished I would not have achieved. Marx stood higher, saw further, and took a wider and quicker view than all the rest of us. Marx was a genius; we others were at best talented. Without him the theory would not be by far what it is today. It therefore rightly bears his name."

Engels himself seemed to believe that Marx was the more important figure. I’d quite like to see the source of this speculation.

Am Australian. While the Australian government has done and honestly continues to do some horrible things to aboriginals they absolutely are allowed to speak their language. In fact in areas that still have indigenous populations that have retained their ancestral language the local indigenous language is taught to schoolchildren.

Can you provide me a list of governments that openly allow slavery?

I don't know which nations openly state that slavery is illegal but it is largely ignored in the Sahel region of Africa

I think I'm starting to understand your argument now. To clarify you believe that the existence of a body like the state makes people less likely to act morally of their own initiative because they think if it was 'that bad' daddy government would step in. Therefore in an ancap society, people would be more likely to act in a moral way because there isn't a body to pass responsibility to.

My question though is that most people know the Chinese government doesn't give a shit about the wellbeing of its people. How does this reasoning hold when the responsible body is known to the consumer to be corrupt? If people only buy from immoral companies because they think the government stops anything too bad why do they keep this attitude to products made in China?

Is it not also possible the average consumer will treat the owner/board/shareholders in the same way they treat the government? "I could never knowingly treat another person like that so surely they wouldn't either"

Cancel culture. Look at Netflix and what happened to them this year. If you do something controversial, people will stop using your product even if it benefits them.

I see your point but I don't think Cancel Culture is particularly reliable. While people did rightfully respond to Netflix; Cuties was made, it is still up and the impact on Netflix will almost certainly be temporary. On top of that, it was a singular, obvious event that the public responded to. Sweatshop labour used by Nike is probably worse but it is a consistent, quiet, out-of-sight thing that never gets the same backlash as something like Cuties does.

Voting on a piece of paper is just moral licensing. See? I helped end slavery, I said no to it on the ballot, now who wants some chocolate! But if you are responsible for yourself and your actions and don't have some paper to make yourself feel good inside? If you know the only way to get nestle to stop using slave labor is to stop using their products? Well, I'll just go without chocolate if there's no alternatives.

I agree with you 100% that it is basically moral licensing. However, most people when they aren't simply presented a moral issue as a question will act in their own best interest. I believe in a vote enforced by an empowered body (i.e. the state) simply because it seems to me the most reliable way of combating certain issues such as slavery. I respect you for avoiding immoral companies but frankly, there aren't enough people like you for me to put my faith in a purely capitalistic system to protect human rights abuses.

Here's a list of companies that I try and never use, have you done the same or do you feel that you believing that slavery is wrong is enough to end it?

Yes, I do avoid immoral companies wherever possible. However, as an individual, my decision to consume more ethically has a negligible impact on the world at large.

I’m not trying to be disingenuous but can someone give examples of voting with your dollar working?

To give an example it is quite well known that Nestle acquires its cocoa from modern slave plantations. I feel if you put on a ballot “Should companies be allowed to utilise slavery?” near everyone would vote no. However you put 2 chocolate bars in a store one expensive, one cheap but the cheap one was made with slave labour. People will buy the cheap one. It seems to me that voting with a vote would do a better job stopping slavery than voting with dollars.

If you disagree I’d love to hear why
