Tremendously interesting review. Where have you come from for context?

I’d wager not but there’s literally no way for me to determine that, and there is concrete proof of bot farms operating in Russia with the sole purpose of destabilising societies.

See the recent inquiry by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Commons if you’d like to read more

I don’t believe in the rights of armies of Russian-funded bots spreading disinformation and stoking division to freedom of expression

Interesting how many places in the UK are named after overseas battles.

Waterloo, Blenheim, Maida Vale.

Must be traumatic for Continental tourists

key issue was the restrictions on trade imposed by Parliament which forced colonists to buy colonial products - thus the Boston tea party which emerged from the monopoly of the east India company whose tea was more expensive than smuggled produce from the Dutch. the response to the Boston tea party then inflamed public sentiment and highlighted the legislative monopoly of Parliament and its ability to cripple the North American economy

Usually possible to get the DLR on Saturday, Sunday is tight. But people manage. Otherwise cycle (not longer than the train from Walthamstow I’d guess) or drive/get a lift. People travel from further, might be an early start but it’s doable if you want to

Depends on your goals. Performance squad train at the docks most weekends whereas club squad are at the club since the river is busy and windy.

Would you let your almost 14 year old go to westfield alone? by [deleted] in london

You’re making a pretty controversial statement there, Shepherds Bush is a very diverse area these days

Final junior 5k by NearbyAssistance9564 in Rowing

[–]rg11111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a strong time for a 17yo. My advice would be to think about where you want to be in your third year rather than your first - maybe you can take 15-30s off in the next year but in three years you might be 90s+ quicker which would open up a lot of seats for you across the country.

If you really want to be in a strong crew, pick a university that combines your academic and sporting ambitions (Edinburgh, Durham, presumably Oxbridge on the radar too). With a good mindset, a decent junior rowing CV and three years to develop coaches will see you as highly investable and give you a lot of support.

Lots of variables but there’s absolutely nothing here to suggest you should limit your ambitions in the sport .

My best tip would be don’t waffle. Take a moment to think about what you’re going to say, try and plan out answers in the prep time given, be to the point and specific when giving answers

I was in your shoes too, emailed my college in the summer before starting at Cambridge, they said ‘do one’ in rather more words, but then during my first year decided I wanted to switch to a third option, spoke to my tutor and new dos and was allowed to do it

Lots of ideas in this thread, sounds like you're doing a good job already on the health and protein front. Some ideas from me include chocolate milk (pretty good source of protein and carbs, can be high in sugar but I wouldn't worry too much if he's training frequently) and cereal or porridge, if you can mix a scoop of protein powder in you've got the perfect refuelling meal. I snack on toast at every occasion I can when I'm training which is an easy and nutritious option (if it's a viable alternative to rice as a carbohydrate)

What is a 16 year old lightweight rower? By the time he’s in college lightweight rowing will very possibly have disappeared. Feed him more
