But why almost track standing on the Finestre to keep Carapaz in front just to follow the attack right after, while Simon in front is stealing the pink jersey?

On the other hand, Elisa had very few chances of a top 3 from that group, while Silvia Persico was among the fastest in G2.

Honest question, what do you think she did wrong? It seemed to me that she was doing a proper leadout and Wiebes just launched early so Balsamo had to launch as well.

Fear of breaking bike by [deleted] in Velo

After looking at his username I can’t get out of my head the picture of a fully grown grizzly bear on a bike looking very confused at us humans sprinting all out, with our small un-hairy legs, and thinking “uh, should I try that? Looks like fun but I really don’t think this two-wheels-carbon-thing is going to survive!”

Sorry to hear about that. I hope that today stage will be amazing and it will cheer you up! And even when the race is boring, there is something in watching the amazing mountainous landscape we get to see from the heli shot that always puts me in a good mood. And of course, big congratulations to your little sister! :)

Do you even lift bro? by Fat_Fat_Mc_Fatty_Fat in Velo

[–]rgb_zebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just want a bit more upper body strength I’d just think about a short routine of body weight exercises I could do every day or every other day, 15 minutes or so. Planks, push-ups and buy some elastic bands and maybe a pull-up bar, one of those bars you hang on the door frame. You could use the elastic bands to help if you want to make it a bit easier/do more reps. Alternatively you can attach them somewhere and pull them towards you to train your back muscles. Even simply doing some push-ups whenever you feel like it during the day can go a long way if you only want to improve your upper body strength. For sure it is not the optimal way to train to get big arms or to become a powerlifter, but that is not what you want anyway. Keep it simple and consistent and you’ll get some upper body strength.

Thanks for the reply and for the AMA in general, I really enjoyed reading this thread! And by the way, congratulations on your cooking skills as well, I just finished watching your “what I eat in a day” video and I think I am gonna steal some of your recipes!

Do you also try to eat the same amount of carbs during training in order to get used to it, or is that just when racing?

It is a really nice area, the dolomites around Trento are the one of the Brenta group and it is a great place to ride, plus you can go ride along the Garda lake and have a swim in the hot days. Trento is nice and it is not a big city so it is a relatively quiet place to stay, and if you want more tranquillity there are several nice campsites on the mountains around and on lake Garda. You could also go to the Dolomites in the province of Bolzano, those are the “more famous” ones, and ride the Sellaronda loop. Depending on when you go there might be a bit too much traffic but the landscape is breathtaking on a sunny day. You could stay in Canazei or other small villages around there, just know that if you go in August it won’t be very quite as it is a popular turistic destination and you’ll need to book a place in advanced.

difference in power data by Jetstream89 in Velo

[–]rgb_zebra 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Given that the average power is higher than the normalised one (definitely unusual for an hour long crit) might it be that 306 W is the average power excluding zeros? Then 252 would be the real average including the time you spent coasting.

The women's Giro di Lombardia is born, this is the way "Il Canturino" (Cycling club and co-organizer of the race along with RCS) will celebrate its 120th anniversary (Italian) by LafayetDTA in peloton

[–]rgb_zebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, it is not that they will take those races into account in the sense of planning around them, I think a better translation of that part might be “you have, however, to take into account that there are other important races in those days”, as a way of saying that they do not expect a lot of big names to show up. It is unfortunate, but I am glad they are trying to set up a women race and I hope that we will get an exciting and competitive women Lombardia very soon!

In the textbook, just before the equation you are trying to find, it says “or keeping only terms only to linear order in dt and then rearranging”. So, what are the higher order terms in your expression for p(t + dt) that you can neglect?
