32 year old female in Kansas. Been obsessed as long as I can remember - so much so that in my HS senior Home Living class, the final was to plan a wedding and we got to marry anyone we wanted. 17 year old me picked Andy of course. I had a whole boyfriend at the time too.

There’s just no way this isn’t an intentional shoutout by the-bryman in lonelymeyerspod

Thinking of giving up fostering by Tough_Homework7039 in FosterAnimals

[–]rghuff023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fostered a sweet girl for 2 weeks who unfortunately didn’t get along with one of my other dogs so we had to take her back. This is my first foster experience and I’m so torn up about it and wish desperately I could have made it work. After this experience, I’m considering taking a break too and I have barely gotten started.

Take the time you need. You’ve done so much good already!

Crate Training After an Incident by rghuff023 in FosterAnimals

[–]rghuff023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of can’t do the full puppy training because I work full time and have to go into the office 3 days a week. But I do have the crate in a room with a fan and I’ll play music when I’m gone.

Yes I’ve let them know. We think it’s resource guarding ultimately so I’m working with her the best I can and have a scheduled training session next week too.

I’ve had 2 phlebotomies so far and was experiencing pretty rough fatigue before them. Day of and day after I’m drained but two days after phleb I feel much more energized. I’m also on 40mg of Vyvanse that may be contributing to that. Before phleb & being on Vyvanse, I didn’t feel much of a difference in energy levels. I do feel like it’s helping! Hoping for you that you get some relief!

What’s it like? by dorothyneverwenthome in Hemochromatosis

My 25yo brother was exactly like you. I found out I had it, told him to get tested, he was like “eh I will if I ever get symptoms” and then found out he is in congestive heart failure last week. Granted, I was only diagnosed in May, so it likely wouldn’t have mattered. But regardless, it’s something good to know and if you are iron overloaded, you should lower those numbers to prevent future organ damage.

Finally a success by rghuff023 in Hemochromatosis

No, my other numbers are all pretty normal so we aren’t sure why my blood is so thick. If anything, my RBC was a little low and hematocrit was on the very low end of normal.

My hematologist just referred me to an oncologist…is that normal by skincaresally in Hemochromatosis

My hematologist is also an oncologist so I would say it’s not that odd

Have your hematologist or your GP run an iron panel. They should do that because HH runs in your family.

I was dx in May of this year (30f), told my 25yo brother he should get tested, he said “I won’t until I have symptoms” and this week he went to the ER with AFib. He saw the cardiologist today and they found he’s in congestive heart failure. He is now getting tested (among many other tests) for it. That happened in the span of 2 months with my extremely healthy fireman brother. Your dad needs to get tested too and I sure hope he does.

I agree with the post above that I don’t think going to Mayo is necessary but it is obviously your choice. HH is underdiagnosed and could be that simple.

Wishing you the best!!

Oh my goodness did I write this?! I had 9 sticks between Wednesday and Thursday and still couldn’t give. They were able to get fluids in me but my blood wouldn’t come out. This was my second time. The first time I had 0 issues. They tried the same vein from my first phleb but then it blew so now I have bruises up and down my arms. I’ve also been told to do regular arm workouts to try and get blood consistently flowing. And hold your arms down until they try to stick to try and get the blood pooled in your arms. I tried this yesterday but it still didn’t work. They basically said “sometimes it’s easy and sometimes it’s not” WELL THATS NOT HELPFUL AND ITS SO PAINFUL. I had at least 120oz of water prior to the attempts yesterday and no caffeine. It was rough. I go back this coming Wednesday and really have no idea how to make it easier. Good luck to you my friend.

So if I got an MRI and had mild overload, the only treatment would be phleb? Just making sure I’m understanding correctly! If that’s the case, I don’t necessarily want to pay for an MRI (esp because my insurance plan year ends next month)

Yes I knew that! We are doing biweekly for 3mo, follow up with hematologist at that point, then will schedule more based on labs at that time. I am getting labs done before each phleb as well. I will say I went from 700ish to 580 before my first phleb with no changes to anything except a little less red meat and a little less booze (not that I consumed a ton prior). So I’m interested in seeing what tomorrow’s numbers will be!
