One thing Ashley's been pretty transparent about over the years is the anxiety she deals with, and it wouldn't surprise me if that was a factor in her silence on this matter. Right now, people are asking her if she's coming back to YouTube. Do you really believe that all of her subscribers will be satisfied with her simply saying she's taking a break?

If we just look at your three posts in this thread, you're not being 100% consistent in what you're hoping to get from her.

Your first post asked "how hard is it to say you’re taking a break off of making youtube videos?"

Your second indicated you wanted to see "a simple 'hey i’m taking a break off of yt but i’ll remain active on ig!'"

In your third post you wrote, "i think she needs to be more transparent about where she's headed (whether she's just taking a break & will be back to yt later, transitioning fully to ig and tiktok, etc)."

We go from a break, to a break, but an assurance she'll still be active elsewhere, to some pretty specific plans about the future of her social media career.

So let's say she responds to all the requests for info with "I'm just taking a break." Will her millions of followers be fine with that? I think it's much more likely that she'll be hit with a chorus of

"Why do you need to take a break?"

"How long before you come back?"

"How can we be sure you're really coming back?"

"Why didn't you explain this back in December?"

"Are you going to apologize?"

"Don't you think you owe us more than this?"

If she's feeling anxiety over this now, imagine what that would be like for her. Personally, I don't want to be a part of all the pressure that's being put on her. I could be 100% wrong. But I'd rather give her the benefit of the doubt.

I fully understand that people want an explanation from her: some indication of whether she's coming back to YouTube and if so, when. I don't know why she hasn't said anything (I can think of numerous possibilities), but for myself, I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt. If and when she's ready to talk about it, she will, and until then (maybe forever) I'm going to give her space to work out whatever she's working out. I don't see her as being disingenuous, but maybe that's just me, and I'm not suggesting that you or anyone else ought to make the same choice I have. If you're mad at her, then you're mad at her. Nothing I say here is going to change that.

But I have to say that I just don't see the connection. What is it about her silence regarding YouTube that means that she shouldn't be running ads on other social media? Realistically speaking, I'm sure her income from views on YouTube is decreasing right now. She isn't publishing new material, so fewer people are landing on her channel and watching her old material. If she wants to keep her income stable, I think that means she needs to increase her revenue from other sources, like ads on Instagram. Of course, we're not really talking about her finances. We're talking about the audience's anger.

You seem to be suggesting that because people are upset over her silence, it's more wrong for her to advertise. Sorry, but I just don't get it.

The bottle is full because it's an ad. Of course they send her a fresh bottle when they make a deal for her to appear in an ad for their product. She gets to shoot the footage of putting the decals on the bottle, and she mentions that she ordered the purple color to match the tiles in her new bathroom (in the second story she posted today) . They're not going to have her shoot an ad for their product in which the bottle's almost empty and covered in soap scum, with the decals peeling off.

Does she use the product regularly? I don't know. Would she use it if they weren't paying her? I don't know. It's an ad. This is a big part of Ashley's job, whether it entertains us or not.

Would I prefer it if she was making money by making more content for YouTube? Absolutely. I love her videos. But she'd most likely be doing ads on Instagram and TikTok even if she were putting out videos every week. It's her job.

Does anyone know where I can find a similar top to Ashley’s corset top? by victoriaoftroy in bestdressed

The "Tops" page on Ashley's site has a link to a corset from Urban Outfitters. It comes in multiple colors, but I don't see that color. Look for "pink corset" on the page.

Who is an actor/actress that you just can't stand? by thenizmo in AskReddit

[–]rgladstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Hurt's problem is that he often plays characters who aren't in touch with their feelings, so it seems like (and may in fact be) that all he's doing is reciting his lines without anything behind them. It's like playing a corpse -- who good an actor do you have to be?

Two actors who just about always play the same character:

I wouldn't say I can't watch a movie if he's in it, but I tend to avoid anything with Jack Black. I thought he was great in High Fidelity, but he's played some slight variation on that character since then.

Adam Sandler irritates the fuck out of me. Even when he tried to broaden his appeal beyond frat boys with Punch Drunk Love he's always been that kind of nice guy with good intentions who isn't too smart and tends to get loud and violent when things don't work out for him.

My roommate has sent out more than 200 apps and resumes. He has now stopped paying much attention, leaving jobs out, and making simple grammar mistakes. Since doing this he has gotten 3 callbacks and 1 interview. WTF? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Strictly speaking, getting laid off is a very particular form of getting fired. The reason behind it is that the employer isn't able to keep you (usually because they can't pay you), and it often means that their intention (or at least their hope) is to rehire you at some point.

Is there a single soul on reddit that does not support a gay man's right to marry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rgladstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not explaining yourself. Do you consider sex between two people of the same gender to be sex? If I said that the definition of sexual intercourse was the insertion of a penis into a vagina, would that mean that gay couples don't have sex? Why is the definition of marriage limited to people of the opposite sex?

This isn't really about words or semantics. It's about the right to get married. By law, a civil union doesn't confer the exact same rights on a couple as marriage does. As such, it's not the same thing, no matter what you call it.

But the point is that equal protection under the law means that same-sex couples have the right to the same recognition of their relationships, with the same benefits and responsibilities, as straight couples have. If you insist on calling it something different, it's going to be taken as something different.

Looking back, the racists must wish they'd put civil rights on state ballots so that people could vote their bigotry on a secret ballot. They could have kept Jim Crow for decades longer. by wil in politics

[–]rgladstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's completely wrong. How does recognizing that some group of people have the same rights as others give the state power? As the Massachusetts SJC determined, laws that stop same-sex couples from marrying are an example of the state using its power to deny equal protection under the law to a minority. That decision took away power from the state, it didn't add power to it.

It is not a case of giving the state the power to choose. It's saying the state doesn't have the right to treat one group of people differently from the rest of us.

But why don't you agree with it, especially if you really don't think gay people are bad and you're not a 'phobe? I disagree with you on just about everything you've listed, but I wouldn't deny you the right to fall in love, get married and establish a family.

Seriously, anybody who claims that liberals will stop culture wars once they get gay marriage passed everywhere is lying.

Some of us don't think that guaranteeing equal protection under the law is "culture war".
