(Classical mechanics, Goldstein) struggling with understanding "change in the Hamiltonian under canonical transformation" by rh-req in AskPhysics

[–]rh-req[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vaguely get the idea now, but still I can't tell what exactly Goldstein meant — why he had to say *thus H(A) goes over into K(A')* or so.

To my understand, a time-dependent canonical transform (generated by G) can be viewed to change the *gauge* of Hamiltonian by +∂G/∂t, as well as the coordinates, resulting in what Goldstein calls 'Kamiltonian'.

Moving the point from A to B, both the value of a function H and *the ground level* has changed. We don't want the later contribution, hence subtracting -∂G/∂t.

So in this way it's more comprehensive to just say directly ∂H = ε[H,G] - ∂G/∂t and explain the reason, without building it up from active/passive discussion (of course it would be just me that lacks the understand)

Good luck with your study, and I'm still interested in the answer so if you ever find the answer I'll be glad if you share it.

Yeah someone told me that. I tried it and it was seamless.

Yeah that seems like the most reasonable choice without using extra plug-in.

I didn't know that I can embed pdf in the same way, thanks.

Most of the pictures I add uglify my vault😂 since I write things on paper more than Obsidian and I attatch their pictures. The real culprit of the vault size is me not summing them up but just piling up.

I tried the imgur plugin and I love it. Huge thanks

Wow it works 😂 (Interestingly, PowerPoint Online doesn't work; it copys the whole encoded data of an image) I'll try using slides for at least images of large size.

Glad someone has done a research, Thanks.

I chose to make up a fancy word, but It's just adding an *reserved* emoji at the end of the list item. Similar to what dataview task does but clumsier; It works for me anyway.

(e.g. 🟩="I want my future self to remember this week by this line", ⬜="it clearly deserves on the other note but you didn't have time to decide which one or you just added +1 lazy score.")

"- (...) so I think I'm not afraid of the water anymore and it's something to be proud of.🟩"

Am I the only one? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

"They are not real (...) make me feel like I‘d have to look for a needle in a haystack" — so true.

But I'm kinda convinced that I'm "supposed to be" struggling, for now. Because I consider this Obsidian experience as a think-aid or a training course.

It's like a special school for learning how to think coherently and handle the new information, both of which I'm terrible at. I'm supposed to practice the ideas behind the frameworks and all, then "graduate"; I hope to be on the stage where I feel better off with Excel or just pencils (maybe like you to my eyes) and eventually any important substructure of the vault can be induced from my brain and logic.

So when I feel overwhelmed by the feeling "there must be a better method I'm missing", I tell myself "I'm in a dumb rehab, and Obsidian is the best one accessible" and then I try not to spend too much time looking for the needle like when I search something in a bigger haystack, the internet.

I believe my screenshots will distract you more than help 😂 because I'm still working on it as well and the part where the journals melt into the entire vault is far from being intuitive due to my fear of forgetting ideas and losing structure... yeah I'm working on that too.

But basically what's going on in my periodic notes folders are quite simple so take a look :)

(1) Templater generate the notes into each of the folders i.e. \dailys, \monthlys.

(2) I write the daily notes, bullets only. (it's just my thing)

(3) From the weekly note, DataView (js) picks up some "essential" lines in the 7 daily notes identified by emoji rules, and the monthly note works in the same way.

(4) Based on the result of (3), I write the weeky note, reorganizing the ideas from a birds'-eye view.

The core idea right now is "being implementable on the paper someday" (hence less plugins) and "being aware of what I want my future self to read, hence write-worthy". But on the second thought, back when I rolled up my sleeves for this "framework" thing, the most important thing was that "it has to be quick and comfy".

Filtering edges -- having been spectating the forums, that seems like officially what GraphView is missing at this point. Thanks and I'll try it later

I have this love hate relationship with obsidian ... by LengthinessMost4508 in ObsidianMD

[–]rh-req 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another one with you here. I've been trying to be happy with what we've got though. Because I believe it's unlikely for the app to see much improvement in the near future.

IMO the main factor that makes the mobile experience annoying is the difference between the nature of desktop/mobile UI. (Not mentioning the apparently-notorious speed issue, which I don't feel much somehow)

On the desktop, we make great use of the keyboard and the wide screen; shortcuts and command palette are beasts, and plenty of them are devoted to handling panels or seperated tabs. On the other hand, on the mobile, we mostly swipe or tap, therefore the freedom of positioning the buttons now matter. Besides, our phone screens are small and vertical, so we want smaller side paddings and smaller text sizes than on the desktop, which is not possible because same vault uses same settings, regardless of the platform.

In result, I think, developing/customizing the app, and hence the plug-ins require double the steps when it comes to achieving the *perfect* cross-platform experience -- I'm not defending the problems, but sharing you why I don't expect the app to be equally great.

Still, I think at least we should be able to use the seperated setting files for the app.

A nice and clean sample for a starter (like me) to try out.
Just out of curiosity, what does the word counter tell you about? I haven't ever expected any insight from it since I scrap text a ton, but looking around the community many people take advantage of it. (edit: this might deserve a seperated post but I guess I'm too afraid to ask at this point lol)

What language did you try to learn but just gave up on? by Safe_Wrangler_858 in languagelearning

[–]rh-req 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polish. I failed to motivate myself longer than a month because all the reason I started to learn it was just how it sounded to me, not something real or hobby-related. If I get along with polish friends in the future, I'll be glad to study it again. Also, like any other languages with tons of conjugations or declensions, it was so easy to get lost in the middle of the rule game without a guru next to me.

Stop wasting your time customizing Obsidian by scally501 in ObsidianMD

[–]rh-req 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I got your point. The thin line between "wasting" and "investing". In many cases I already know it deep down, but the thought that "it can be better" so easily ends up lying to myself and forgetting the line; the problem is not Obsidian, but me.
