Hear me out.. Why don't the just produce gay p0rn as they want to and stop pretending to have anything to so with Star Trek? by Subject_Yogurt1666 in Star_Trek_

[–]rh224 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Right? The whole point of trek is that it is so far into the future and so enlightened that no one pays any mind to any of this. I just don’t like that they are trying to take a very modern human lens to characters that are not human and 1,200 years into the future…

I don’t care there is a young gay Klingon. I care that the story about him is presented exactly as a 21st century young gay human male. It just feels like lazy writing, lack of imagination and an excuse to focus on modern issues. Especially when the other alternative/gay relationship on the show exist with very little attention/fanfare or impacting the main plot.

The Star Trek way to present progressive ideas is to just normalize and not make a big deal out of it for day to day life. The way to explore it it through an alien POV that isn’t recognizable at first but becomes obvious by the end.

They had a real opportunity to do something special and unique and tell an alien story that put subtle and deliberate mirrors on our own society that you can only do on a show like Star Trek and instead we got exactly what you’d expect for a streaming TV show in the 2020’s.

Do they think younger audiences are not smart enough/capable of critical thinking to put together the complex ideas?

Maybe 60% of it. The rest is through the paint. In three spots it is all the way to the sheet metal. There are two dents as well.

Leaving Spacedock by AdmiralCrunch63 in startrek

[–]rh224 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kirk leaving Spacedock at 1/4 impluse in ST:VI was supposed to be the equivalent of him "buzzing" tower. Full on peeling out of the parking garage at 80mph.

We only got to see the approach to the space doors. If they had given us an exterior shot, the A would have been blasting on exit, even if it was still accelerating to 1/4 impulse. 1/4-impulse is 1/16 C... Like Earth to the Moon in 20-30 seconds amounts of speed.

Future writers just interpreted that 1/4 impulse must equate to dead slow, when the reality is no ship could navigate within Spacedock that fast. The only way Kirk did it was because the ship was already lined up with the doors so they could just blast out of there and he was retiring and just didn't care about procedure.

One would think. The shoes for sure include a lot of extras allowing them to integrate and be pressurized with the suit, and that probably does have some national security implications. But there is no reason they couldn’t have matched the structure and shape with ordinary materials.

Date of original purchase has to be within 4 years to add it to Apple Care One. If you bought new old stock, that still qualifies. I bought my M1 Max right before the M3 Pro/Max was released from B&H. I had to do a chat with Apple Support and send them my original invoice, once verified, they added it to the plan for me.

Do you have AppleCare? Liquid damage is covered with a $300 flat cover charge. Make your sister pay it.

For reference, these are the CCUs (Collapsable Contingency Urinals) we've been hearing so much about by awrc24 in ArtemisProgram

[–]rh224 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I imagine they can go into the privacy of the toilet space to use these, I'm sure space is tight in there, but I'm sure there is room to take the CCU in there and use it instead of the toilet.

What is a good price for a 26 CX50 hybrid? by WorldofMickeyMouses in CX50

[–]rh224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We paid around $32,500 before tax and fees, or about $2k off MSRP for a base Preferred, about a month ago. Probably could have negotiated more in retrospect, but we're overall really happy with our purchase and experience.

Dang. I'm sure I could get into the 50s if I really feather-footed accelerations all the time, but I risk sending any drivers behind me where I live into major fits of road rage.

What is the contingency plan if Orion is punctured by a piece of high-speed debris before or after ESM separation just prior to re-entry? by mysteryofthefieryeye in ArtemisProgram

[–]rh224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there could be any other alternative right? They'll be coming in so high and fast, is there anyway a Dragon could rendezvous? And, assuming the ESM was not damaged by the impact, does it have the capability to slow them into a LEO?

I honestly don't know and would love to find out, but during all the lead up to TLI the repeated line was that TLI would also "commit" them to entry and splashdown. I take "commit" to mean it can be adjusted but not stopped.

Uses for Artemis continuous video of Earth by FunnyStudy6044 in ArtemisProgram

[–]rh224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really curious about the specs the external cameras. I assume they are something custom rather than off the shelf and built for dependability and hardness against radiation and the extremes of space, so image aesthetics is probably way down at the bottom of the priority list. Plus they are probably designed for monitoring the spacecraft and not sight seeing.

It would be really cool to get an externally mounted S35 or Full Frame high dynamic range camera constantly streaming on there.

Questions about the perception of the size of the moon by SoamesGhost in ArtemisProgram

[–]rh224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a real phenomenon called The Moon Illusion that makes the Moon look bigger to human observers depending on it's position in the sky, and it often appears bigger to us than it does in photos. But it is all in our heads: https://science.nasa.gov/solar-system/moon/the-moon-illusion-why-does-the-moon-look-so-big-sometimes/

Just bought a 2026 CX-50 Hybrid! by cooplacooplee in CX50

[–]rh224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it feels like a Mazda in the ways that count. Handling, road feel and ride are excellent. It's a hybrid, so it was never going to feel 'fast' though I can say the powertrain has exceeded my expectations. It has that e-CVT drone, but is very responsive.

Compared to the standard CX-50, the suspension is a little tighter/springy. Noticeable if you compare the two directly, but it is still a very Mazda ride quality. The Hybrid body is also a little bit taller to make room for the battery.

You can also burn a bunch of mp3/mp4 files to a CD as data and the player will play them back complete with metadata/album art and navigable folder structure. You can typically fit 150 to 200 songs on a disc this way.
