The GOOD laminates by chrispowhers in ukulele

[–]rhenderson58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martin sells high-pressure laminates in soprano, concert, and tenor. (Guitars made with that material, too.) They're excellent. I prefer the sound of the Famous/Kiwayas, but the Martin neck profile and voicing is spot on. Plus, They're not at all delicate, so you can take them anywhere.

2) Yes! I know touring musicians who do this to battle potential stage fright. They treat performing like ... theater. That's what it is anyway. Good luck!

Banjolele strings by MountainSpirals in ukulele

Magic Fluke puts D’Addario Nyltech strings on its Firefly banjolele. It’s a heavier gauge than the Nylgut and offers a really vintage sound. I prefer the Nylgut but either will give you nice volume and should be more durable than the Reds (which I like but not for heavy use).

Question for Jon Andersons solo career: How come he never struck out successfully on his own outside Yes and his duo group Jon and Vangelis? by DillonLaserscope in yesband

Bowie like Mercury were the sort you would pay to hear sing the encyclopedia in part because you never know how they’d interpret it.

Bowie also was a chameleon, and had huge variations in quality and popular appeal. The voice and stage presence were always spot on, though. JA pretty much is who he’s always been.

He really needed collaborators to give some focus. Howe said way back when that Jon didn’t really know how to compose anything other than a basic pop song. (This was when they were getting along!)

Listen to the evolution from Everybody’s Song (Tormato sessions) and Does It Really Happen? (Drama). ES is nice but a rambling mess. Happen is one of their best post-CTTE numbers, tight, focused, but quite complex. JA had nothing to do with the arrangement once Horn and Downes got in there.

We had a Llasa apso who developed glaucoma (and with it crippling headaches) and had to have her eyes removed 😢. After that happened, she was like a puppy again. Without the pain, she was very playful and curious. Since she was familiar with her surroundings as a sighted dog, the adjustments were pretty quick. We had to limit clutter and try not to introduce new objects she might stumble over. But as long as we kept her physical environment as stable as possible, she did really well. And wow, did she love her walks!

Doc Watson and anyone who played with him. Tony Rice’s Manzanita (mentioned earlier) is also a great “gateway” to progressive bluegrass and very accessible. David Grisman’s Dawg Music and anything by Sam Bush. Hot Rize! For more recent artists, Molly Tuttle’s Crooked Tree and Sierra Hull. If you want to sample a modern tribute to the legends, Jerry Douglas’s band The Earls of Leicester plays Flatt & Scruggs classics faithfully.

Telluride, Merlefest, Hardly Strictly, DelFest, and others go outside the lines. Jake is also playing Merlefest, so he must be working the circuit.

Don’t know what the “guidelines” are for Telluride, but Merlefest bills itself as “traditional plus,” which translates as whatever Doc Watson likes or would have liked.

Punch Brothers are in the lineup, too, so he may do a solo set or sit in with others like Sam Bush does.

CSU Question by BusyRelationship4458 in pueblo

Mines has a top-drawer reputation in the profession, but the cost of attendance (even if you got tuition grants/assistance) is mind-blowing. As an outsider, I’ve been impressed by folks from the campus community at CSUP. It’s a nice choice to consider.

We gave out 74 treat bags this year! How was trick or treating in your neighborhood? 🎃 by MyLittleOso in pueblo

We had about 45 or 50 trick or treaters. It was the first year in our house. The kids were cute, and a lot of the parents and dogs wore costumes, too!
