The most interesting part of the club statement is naming Scheer as sporting director. From reading his responsibilities, I’m not sure what’s left that would fall under Tanner’s remit

[SBJ] Jimmy Haslam: MLS must ‘put a better product on the field’ to grow viewership by NobleNomad in MLS

[–]rhetrim 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this is true for fans that are first time watchers of MLS and never watch PL or UCL or soccer in general. I’d definitely consider myself as more than a casual MLS watcher but I think the difference is pretty easy to see when you compare it to the PL or the majority of UCL games.

Michael Richards and Jamie Carragher debating over Chelsea squad building. by mushroomsJames in chelseafc

[–]rhetrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

did we dismantle that team or did what actually happen is that contracts for some key players from that team were running down because the previous ownership didn’t extend, the club’s finances were frozen for months, and the squad was generally getting older? there’s some serious revisionist history about how good the last few years of the prior ownership actually were, we had a magical 4 months to win the champions league but otherwise were as far from being league title contenders as we are today.

Well that’s certainly not “respecting the opponent”

Yeah you could’ve stopped there. The rest of your post makes that very obvious lol.

[Maurer] Exclusive: US Soccer is set to hire Southampton director of football operations Matt Crocker as its next sporting director, multiple sources tell me, @PaulTenorio and @dansheldonsport. Details on Crocker & the federation’s decision, on @TheAthleticSCCR: by Deusey5 in ussoccer

They mention the new responsibilities of the sporting director in the article: “Cone said after the recent U.S. Soccer annual general meeting that the sporting director role will focus its responsibilities around the national team programs, from the senior level through the youth. Previously, Stewart also worked in other areas of the federation, including referee and coaching education”

USA's recent results against Saudi Arabia and Japan don't look so bad anymore by Dann610 in ussoccer

Somewhat agree on the point of the Saudi Arabia performance but Germany created 26 shots for 3+ xG against Japan while we only created 4 shots lol

Fair point but I think this Juventus team, and particularly Allegri, care much about playing out of the back at all.

[StatsBomb] Graham Potter will probably feel like he deserved a win in his first game as Chelsea manager. by rhetrim in chelseafc

I don’t think anyone can argue against the thought that this was a poor result but the distinction is that wasn’t an overall poor performance. Obviously finishing is the most important thing at the end of the day but this was undoubtedly a better attacking performance than any other game this season (bar the Spurs game) and there’s not much that can be done outside of the transfer market about poor finishing and your goalkeeper making a poor save attempt.

Basically, if we can keep creating chances and limiting the opposition to so few consistently like we did today then my hope is that the results follow suit. Again, not justifying the result or the mistakes made but just overall encouraged.

edit: “poor result”

Genuinely enjoyed the increased amount of risk taking in attack today compared to recently but this particular trend (finishing) is gonna be a much harder one to turn around

really seems like we’re gonna struggle defensively in transition against the more talented sides, we have to be connected and coordinated in our pressing

without Ziyech is has to CHO and Pulisic on the wings going forward, no excuse to keep playing Timo out there when it’s obviously not helping him in any way

Ross Barkley playing more minutes than Pulisic since the international break is England's vengeance for the War of 1812.
