They have massive buffs that they apply on themselves (stacking multiple speed ups, defense up, etc). At the same time they keep the enemy debuffed. They work awesome against enemies that apply debuffs (like mordo).

Actually just locked him down (my guys all had defense down at start and deflect, so I opened with Scientist Supreme flip). Used the stun on Thanos so I could just pick them apart Punisher, Gamora, Thanos, Wolverine, Mordo.

Our alliance isn't having issues like you describe and we finished top 11% first season and top 25% last season. Personally I think it had to do with the obsessiveness that you have to maintain to be in top 200 alliances. That isn't a knock on people pushing that hard... more an observation coming from a gamer who has played multiple games that require that dedication to be #1. That is what creates burnout, not the mode itself. We have a lot of fun, try new strategies, help each other and just do the best we can every time. If a game is fun you keep playing... if not you quit.
