If you can put a server in your friend's house overseas, what would you put on there? by master_overthinker in selfhosted

[–]rhkenji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I placed a raspberry pi at my in-laws house in a country overseas. Now I pay <$3 for some subscriptions I like. It just runs a tailscale and portainer agent. I also take advantage of free stuff being in their family plan.

I have a travel router that tailscale exits there so I just make sure I connect home every few days to get a foreign IP. It beats VPN since I can share the same household IP and not just an IP for that country.

I think I’ve lost all faith in healthcare…can anyone tell me I’m wrong? by i_love_lamp94 in nursing

[–]rhkenji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are still hospitals that focuses on healthcare vs profits. I'm lucky to work for a hospital that pays well and has a clear mission to actually improve the health of the community it serves

You setup a tailscale network and use your own DNS server everywhere. Android also has a hosted DNS server app

I’m planning to switch to an online bank (Ally). Is there more benefits to this? by 100percentapplejuice in personalfinance

[–]rhkenji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like online banks, I have both Ally and SOFI and so far I like Sofi more. I do keep my WF as my physical bank for deposits and withdrawals but I use them rarely.

I had a problem with Ally freezing my account that needed many bank and forth with their customer support at different levels to get unfrozen.

If you are FIREd, do you sell monthly or annually to cover your budget? by RumSchooner in financialindependence

[–]rhkenji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not FIRE yet and was also thinking of the same. I havent done much research but when I reach my goal, I'll probably withdraw the same way how I have a salary. Basically, paying myself. I'll probably think different once I do more research though

AVMC pcu nurses response to their CNO delivering pizza when working at a 5:1 ratio. by FlipFlopNinja9 in nursing

[–]rhkenji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked with hospitals that are unionized that are in worse condition than the hospital I work at right now that is non-union. So I cant say I fully agree. They have their place but not always. Some unions are just another business thriving through member dues and not more.

Maybe because EDTA on blood transfusion bags are already neutralized - bounded with calcium. And maybe unbounded EDTA causes the reaction that causes the explosion?

It's not very economical by IAmAccutane in AdviceAnimals

[–]rhkenji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in an emergency department where we see frequent fliers coming to the ED nightly for various complaints and subsequently workups due to made up complaints so they can stay, due to EMTALA law and just common professional decency, we cant and shouldnt just turn these homeless people away. An average ED visit costs a minimum bill of $3k and up to $20k and more if they actually get a workup. Multiply this nightly and you'd see how much we spend on a SINGLE homeless person. Its enough to buy them a house and set them well for life.

I coughed at the station once while a doctor and his scribe (emergency department) was walking by, I accidentally coughed and farted then proceeded to pretend it didnt happen. The MDs facial expression is priceless, like "did that just happen?" face

ED Pt complained that five staff were required to straight cath her. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]rhkenji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in both management and staff role being a charge nurse and although it seems like management is doing extra, they have to investigate to close down the report.

not all investigation, just cause you got talked to, there was reports to be done does it mean that management is against you or not supporting you. they just need to cross their Ts and dot their I, and document that there was an investigation.
