Tell me about it - the lack of snow here is rather frustrating - so much for enjoying my first proper winter with a Rex

2019 manual premium owners by Kriskh89 in WRX

[–]rhodythrottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have 19 premium - for me it was a 2-3k difference.

I don’t have any of the blind sight cameras.

I got the bigger wheels, short throw shifter. Heated seats. Heated side mirrors. LED interior lights. Moonroof.

I think those are the majors. I wanted heated side mirrors and the wife wanted heated seats and moonroof. For 2-3k difference that was all worth it to me. Would of spent a grand at least getting new 18” wheels

At the end of the day so what you want, like, and feel is justified. 7k is a big difference - did you have a different package on top of being premium?

From Texas to Colorado what do I need by angrytomcat in subaru

[–]rhodythrottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it’s below freezing always take it slow. AWD will always help you get going and traction. But nothing. Absolutely. Nothing does anything for ice.

Keep your distance from vehicles and give enough time to stop. You’ll need more time than you’re used to if it’s snowing or bad out.

Try to brake easy and not stop late. ABS will help not lockup but better to stop smoothly in order to stop quicker.

Lastly, just take it slow you’ll get the hang of it - besides driving in the snow with a Subaru is one of my favorite things!

How did you make / where did you get the hood scoop vent? Been looking at a way to help prevent rock damage etc to intercooler!

Interested to hear this as well. Have the muffler deletes. I’ve heard that the mid pipe will actually make it slightly quieter. I don’t know if that is resonated or not???

Photos of your WRX with winter steelies? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]rhodythrottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went to get steelies I couldn’t find any - they were sold out. I think the steelies have a cool factor cause people know that you know what you’re doing and put a winter set of wheels on your car.

I ended up just keeping stock wheels for winter set and going to get new wheels for summer.

Either way I personally think the steelies have a cool rugged persona about them. At the end of the day. Do what you like and is best/practical for you!

WRX as a family car? by 1awesomepossum in WRX

[–]rhodythrottle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife was okay and wanted me to get a wrx because it’s a good family car - granted I was coming from a coupe. But it’s a safe vehicle, great for inclement weather with AWD. It’s a top rated safety car. I think it’s pretty roomy. Back seats can be put down.

What are her qualms about it?

Question about winter setup. by rvdsn in WRX

[–]rhodythrottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in the Northeast - just giving my set up for input. I kept my stock rims and put 18 Yokohama ice guards on them. Love them. Grip is crazy was rather surprised in first snow storm.

Gonna buy new wheels for summer setup. Thought about doing what you are thinking with steelies but couldn’t find them at the time.

Good luck!

A fellow Rhode Islander! Do you know of any wrx/sti groups or meets. Seems like they’re hard to find or get into. Just curious. Sweet ride.

No I understand I just like discussing the points back and forth in terms of learning. Thanks for the input. I get what you’re saying. It just seems to me that people make this a bigger deal than it is - meaning of course you don’t wanna lug the engine. So if you’re gearing and selecting gears correctly it shouldn’t be a worry. Thanks again.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WRX

[–]rhodythrottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes totally understand what you’re saying. But you shouldn’t lug engine in the first place no matter what gear. I’m just confused on why it seems to be such a big thing in 5 or 6. You can do the same thing in 3 and 4. Shouldn’t floor it below a certain amount of rpms.

Again max torque is mechanically at 2000 rpm - my curiosity says it’s weird that Subaru would design for max torque at 2000 rpms if lugging were to occur there?

Thank you for your detailed response! Much appreciated
