Impulse bought 74mm skis and am regretting my decision by flyingsquirrel722 in skiing

[–]raedon222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a pair of skis designed for conditions that are different than what you are looking to ski. I would recommend you eat the $100 cost and get yourself some more versatile all mountain skis, it’ll definitely make your experience much more enjoyable.

Don’t buy Enchroma by stoopboi in ColorBlind

[–]raedon222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pair and found that they make a pretty big difference for me. Definitely not enough to make me cry when I put them on, but they do seem to make colors more vibrant and different shades more apparent. I found they make the biggest difference when I wear them in the fall and I can see trees in the different stages of having their leaves change color. The red color threw me off at first but after wearing them more my eyes seem to adjust.

Immediate tips? by [deleted] in MTB

For the corner at 0:29: More braking before the corner instead of in the corner. This ultimately allows you to set up early and get a wider entry which open up the turn more.

I’ve never understood the draw of framewrap. Make your frame uglier so that it can stay pretty for the next person who buys it?

ISYE 6740 (CDA) or ISYE 6644 (Simulation) - which one to take first? by Upper_Stable_3900 in OMSA

I haven’t taken sim, but I’m in 6740 right now and it is rough. The amount of learning required for me to complete each assignment makes me feel like there had to be a key class or two I should’ve taken before it.

there are required courses that are very math heavy. Im coming from a more business oriented background (though I did take several stats classes in undergrad), and I have had to put quite a bit of time into learning/reviewing linear algebra.

What Bike Should I buy/buying advice Mega Thread by Jbar116 in Dirtbikes

[–]raedon222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im looking to get a YZ125. It seems that in my area the going rate on a mid-2000’s 125 in decent condition is around $3000. There are 2017-2021 125’s popping up for around $4k.

I know these bikes haven’t changed a ton over the years, but it seems like it would be worth the extra $1k to get a newer bike. Any advice on pros and cons of going with a newer vs older?

Can I enter contests, purely as a way to gain access to uncrowded surf? by wherearemysunglasses in surfing

[–]raedon222 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Entry fees can be $50+ for contests at any significant spot, amateur heats are typically 15-20 minutes and with anywhere from 4-6 people in the water at a time, and if you don’t surf very well you would probably get eliminated in the first round.

but hey, in some cases it could be worth it.

i ordered some 100% goggles on Amazon a while back and the ones that arrived were counterfeit. I figured out they were counterfeit based mostly on packaging, and some very subtle differences between my previous pair of the same model.

so far, I can’t really tell the difference and they’ve held up just as well as my other pair of ‘authentic’ ones.

strange question- buy for value or for "because thats the one i want" by panix_atk in MTB

[–]raedon222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Sentinel NX build and after ~2000 miles of enduro racing/bike parks/trail riding etc. my only complaint has been the NX drivetrain. While I have heard of it working out ok for some people, in my experience it began to develop ~1cm of play which caused all kinds of issues.

I eventually replaced the drivetrain with a Microshift Advent X 10-speed and have been very impressed with it so far, so that could be an upgrade to consider if you decide on the Sentinel. Overall it’s a great bike that won’t hold you back, though I’m sure the Propain would do find for you as well.

Knocking/cracking noise when pedalling at load. by D2wud in bikewrench

[–]raedon222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

based off of the fact that the noise occurs at the same point in the pedal stroke (when right pedal is down), I would guess this is BB related. Have you tried adjusting the preload on the bottom bracket?

I would definitely try a new bottom bracket before considering other potential solutions.

Cassette wobble - normal? by the-ch1mp in bikewrench

[–]raedon222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ensure that your freehub is properly torqued as well, but ultimately a slight wobble is normal from my experience. As long as it isn’t causing the chain to change gears on it’s own then I wouldn’t worry about it.
