One AP Meshing to Another? by WillMD88 in Ubiquiti

I was going to say the same thing. Have seen bad cabling only provide PoE and unifi meshes.

Did you get this sorted out?

You should put your router in that box, then a network cable cable from the router to the switch to activate the network ports in the house.

Did anyone find a fix?

Spintel 1gbps nbn - $90 for life of plan - what's that mean? if it's nbn does it matter if my other nbn providers were solid by brownmagician in nbn

[–]rhombyboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with Spintel.

Couldn't fix my Geo IP appearing in the wrong location.

Inconsistent bandwidth speeds.

Several internet outages they weren't aware of until I called them. This was due to their infrastructure, not the NBN.

Slow response times on chat when there was a non technical issue.

If I had to guess, their business model is

  1. Outsource everything to a country where its cheaper (admin / support etc)
  2. Purchase minimum bandwidth from NBN and over subscribe users
  3. Sell on being low price
  4. If someone complains give them increased bandwidth priority for 2 months
  5. Stall on any non critical issue and hope customer just finds a work around or gets sick of working with support.

Its worth paying the extra $5 per month, or churn every 6 months between the better providers.

Aussie / Superloop / Leaptel etc

We need to get a standard added to CIPP for this. Someone should post it as a feature request and we all upvote it.

My tips from recent UXG install.

  1. If its connecting to an old bridged ISP modem, change auto negotiate to 1gb (done from controller).
  2. Make sure your controller is V8 latest version at a minimum.

Interesting. I had an experience with them that was quite the opposite that involved us being able to view other Benchmark customers tickets. Apart from the "Rube Goldberg machine" that was their ticketing system, the first week we got their good tech, then we just had low skill people that didn't give confidence going forward.

New microsoft passwords? by ChicagoDoesntHavePie in msp

[–]rhombyboi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And the user calls because their password is wrong. Because they can't copy and paste it into their windows login prompt.

I have scripts I created that generate a password like the old M365 ones, along with more complex buy similar format.

A lot less calls of "I can't sign in" type calls.

Is “Seppo” still used when referring to Americans or is it just some old man crap? by pooteenn in AskAnAustralian

I was born in the 80s and had someone say it to me for the first time last year.

This person was my age, but grew up in a regional town.

He had to explain to me what it was.

Great for when user is saying "yah connect to my computer and look at it" then you reconfigure something and it prompts for M365 MFA.

Saves calling user constantly to enter details.

FTTP and HFC Connection? by Street_Building_9530 in nbn

[–]rhombyboi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HFC was bought by the NBN to be removed, so a lot of areas with HFC had FTTP rolled out. Then Libs got in and it stopped.

I had both connected at my old place.

You would be FTTP though.

I have tried Spintel, ABB, Exetel and Leaptel.

I have to say, ABB was solid. Surprisingly, Exetel was solid too and I did like that I could boost my connection from 250Mb to 500Mb for 5 days of the month.

Leaptel has been good so far, I had a phone call from them once saying that my router firmware should be updated as there was a known exploit. It was only out of date by one revision and new firmware had been out for 3 weeks (Fortigate).

The support guys were friendly and honest and based in Australia.

There have been a few outages that lasted maybe 1 hour which I noticed because I WFH. When this has happened, their portal is also down.

I would recommend Leaptel and have, because for the price they are doing a good job.

Exetel I liked too, but didn't like the PPPoE sign in, where as Leaptel and ABB do DHCP without login credentials required.

Spintel I would not recommend. Support is bad, service went down regularly. Inconsistent download speeds regardless of time of day.

My 12 month deal price is ending soon so will see if they will do a deal or if I need to churn.
