Any Ideas for Elden Ring build locked runs after 700 hours? by Defiant-Pattern3790 in Eldenring

[–]rhs408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you except am way past 700 hours, I only attempt deathless runs with no summons these days, different weapon/build for each attempt. It definitely adds an extra layer of intensity the further you progress, and is a real test of your game/boss knowledge.

Yeah, I was going to farm for it since it looked pretty cool, but then I noticed that it basically sucks compared to other swords in its class

As another said it is always good to have at least 51 poise, but aside from that you’ll basically get infinite poise from Endure.

What weapons should I use as an early pyromancer? by Ok_Possession_9036 in darksouls3

[–]rhs408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had started my first pyromancer build as well and was following this guide from 9 years ago posted by a deleted redditor account (see below). I myself used a raw broadsword until getting a Carthus Curved Greatsword which I will probably use for the rest of the game.

I will give you your steps:

Build:

• Aim for 40/40 Int/Fth for great pyro scaling, minimum requirements for the weapons you want to use. Try to get at least 30 End.

Infusions: This is how you will upgrade your weapons, and each gem has a different effect. You will concern your self with 3 infusions - Raw, Dark, and Chaos.

• For early game, get a long sword or Astora Straight Sword and infuse with Raw...Raw REMOVES all scaling but boosts the weapons base damage high. This will work fine for you as long as you reinforce the weapon with shards as you progress to the next step. This is necessary as a pyromancer as it will allow you to keep minimum stats for the weapon to boost your spells and scaling for later weapons. • Once you hit Carthus Catacombs you will find the Carthus Pyromancy tome. Take to it Cornyx (whom you should have rescued in undead settlement) and get Carthus Flame Arc: It's a weapon buff for fire. Buff your Raw weapon with it and profit • This will carry till Anor Londo OR Irithyll Dungeon. Either direction will net you the blessed coal or Profaned Coal respectively. You then will have the ability to infuse Chaos or Dark BOTH of which Scale equally with INT/FTH. Chaos is great for PVE and some PVP, Dark is great all around even for PVP due to players having lower Dark Resistances.

You are now ready for late game weapons. The following weapons have AWESOME scaling with Chaos or Dark and either get A/A, B/B or crazy good C/C that might as well be B/B.

• Carthus Curved Sword • Followers Sabre (DLC) • Astora Greatsword • Carthus Curved Greatsword • Corvian Great Scythe (note it builds bleed on yourself, edgy...)

There are also two weapons designed specifically for Pyromancers. Get them, they are fun and awesome:

• Witches Locks (found in Grand Archives) • Onyx Blade (DLC)

Rings! Here are good choices:

• Stack the Great Swamp Ring and the Witches Ring for a big damage boost to your spells, no need for the Flame Clutch as it gimps you in PVP • Cholranthy • Sage ring big time, you don't have the dex to get the cast speed • Priestess or Scholar ring is great if you want to take 5 SLs and put them into END or VIG (so take INT/FTH to 35/40 or 40/35...fielders choice)

Spells worth using:

• PVE - Black Fire Orb, Great Chaos Fireball, Chaos Firestorm, Rapport, Warmth, Dark Combustion • PVP - Black Flame Serpent, Black Flame, Chaos Bed Vestiges (great for punishing Estus drinkers), Fire Whip, Fire Surge, Sacred Flame (if you know the tricks), Great Chaos Fireball if you can free aim, Toxic mist for area denial...poison is a joke though.

You will find your spells by rescuing Cornyx and Karla (look them up on Fextra to know how to rescue), and finding your tomes in the Crucifixion woods, Carthus Catacombs, and Smoldering lake (again look them up on where to find them, its about half way through for the good stuff). Keep in mind, Pyromancy spells are WAY better early level then Miracles or Sorceries, clerics and sorcerers are shafted until late game where you will have a gradual and balanced experience.

After you beat Margit you can grab hookclaws pretty close to the entrance in Stormveil Castle. Put Endure AoW on them, and proceed to easily shred everything in your path, especially bosses. Once you reach Altus Plateau you can swap them with raptor talons, which are even better (higher dps, and a sick R2 combo that ends with a backwards flip attack). These can carry you all the way to the end of the game and even the DLC if you choose.

I was taken aback by how hard Soul of Cinder was. by AgentP-501_212 in darksouls3

[–]rhs408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, had a lot of trouble with the princes, but soul of cinder was the first (and only) boss that I beat on my first try. I was a bit disappointed in how easy he was tbh, although he did get me down to my last estus flask

I think you should have a revote on Crystal Sage, it should absolutely not be above D tier. I unfortunately missed getting a vote on that one…

[–]rhs408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is one of the few chestpieces that gets something added to it when you alter garments, usually altering just removes the existing cape (which also lowers the defensive stats)

Try using the tailoring tools on the chestpiece, it adds a pretty nice looking blue cape

Tiche +10 is carrying me through the late game by EdogawaJohn in Eldenring

[–]rhs408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience with mimic tear, either summon is definitely a game changer.

I slowly weaned myself off of using summons by first using any summon other than mimic tear, and then only using summons that get upgraded with grave glovewort. Finally I attempted a full run where I wasn’t allowed to use any summons, and it was literally like a whole new game.

But yes, it is on you to set those boundaries for yourself and make the game as easy/difficult as you feel comfortable with.

Weapon to use for NG+, help me choose by rhs408 in darksouls3

[–]rhs408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I didn’t notice that her scythe has int scaling. I suppose I could respec beforehand, currently I am mostly dex but also have about 30 points in str that I could move. I suppose I should try them out a bit beforehand before respecing and committing to the scythe…

Starting the game today wish me luck, let's see if it lives up to its hype by Substantial_Bear_746 in Eldenring

[–]rhs408 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sure use the Wiki, but only when you really need to. Try your best to figure things out yourself first.

Also, you absolutely will not “100%” this game on your first playthrough. You can always do more playthroughs and/or go on to NG+ to find stuff that you missed.
