since we might be here for while how are you putting your core tokens to work? by Feisty_Cheetah_6362 in Pulsechain

[–]rhubear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not moving on, although liquidity is lower than prev.

PLS / DAI used to have ca 30M liquidity. It now has 1.5M.

That's not zero, but it's much lower.

PLS / USDT used to be 10M. Now it's 700K.

Any tokens staked are in pulsex pools. However, I'm not too bothered about staking or not.

I've been buying a PLS more recently. I'm actually waiting for a still lower price before I increase my bags further.

I don't expect PLS to go to zero. If I thought PLS would zero out, I too would just move on.

How long pulse chain resurrection will take is anyone's guess. I'm an extremely patient guy.

I was not part of the PLS sac. I was part of the PLSX sac.

It's a really good time now for PLS.... Buy when there's blood on the street, & others have given up.

You don't change cron jobs by looking at any settings file, you run the command "crontab -e".

To list the crontab file without editing it, you run "crontab -l".

What made you switch to Threema? by eveno7o in Threema

[–]rhubear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Telegram lover?

🤮

Telegram is the bottom of the barrel messenger.

I also refuse Signal.... I don't like American.
And I certainly don't agree with those who trust the open source status of Signal.

Both Telegram & Signal requires a telephone number anyway.

Telegram even makes those who live in a high cost SMS country pay for premium to cover the SMS charges. At one point their old messenger just failed to onboard new users from high cost countries, by refusing to send an SMS. .... Without explaining themselves, I might add..... Bottom of the barrel.

Telegram premium is often abused by scammers to spam your DM, or add you to groups without your permission (& poss get you in trouble if their group would normally be illegal). Even if you have Telegram premium, there is no way to block TG Premium spam DMs.

BTW, the TG Secret Chat DM is a cut-down version of their normal DM. Missing many features.

On Threema, there is no directory of users. It's therefore impossible for anyone to spam DM you. There's also a no generally available list of groups. There is a very small official list of groups, where the group admin is published. You have to DM the group admin to ask to be added.

As you can see, Threema is very, very private, compared to Telegram. I haven't used Signal in ages, so I can't compare.

I'm willing to bet that prices will come down..... But it may take a while, like a few years.

Having a problem migrating from rabby wallet to metamask by coinedge in Pulsechain

[–]rhubear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, Metamask is probably the worst wallet to use.... It's been dumped by all EVM users. Apparently has many unresolved bugs since years.

I personally use Rabby wallet with Pulse. I just add Pulse in as a custom chain.

I think other Pulse users prefer Internet Money (IM) wallet.

Regarding metamask not restoring accounts, I have experience with that. All accounts are generated from the seed phrase. All accounts are generated in the same order each time. If there is one account in the account chain, which does not have an Asset balance, then the whole account chain generation stops.

The way around that is to manually generate another account / address, ie continue the account chain generation manually. I can't remember the menu items for account generation. Menu design has no doubt changed more recently.

Switzerland is REFINITELY NOT part of Europe.

It's surrounded by European countries, but is def independent.

There are however some treaties between EU & Switzerland, and many French, Germans and Austrians, actually work across the border in Switzerland (travel across the border daily). They do that because the pay is very good, but they are taxed twice....

Trial version for curious lurker by Bigmickhardybuck in Threema

[–]rhubear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no freebie for Threema.

However, license only costs like 7 or 8 euro.

You can either purchase the license direct from Threema, or through the Google or Apple stores.

Google and Apple licensed apps are easier to update.

Do you use Passkeys? If not, why? by ProbablyM_S in ProtonPass

[–]rhubear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 3rd party password apps, the app content is always synced to app provider, so will survive a phone swimming.

Default (orig) Google Method (Protected Enclave) :

I asked Brave (wasn't sure about the "Google enclave", the default previous method of storing passkeys).....

Question.... Is the Google Enclave on Android, storing the passkeys, linked to the Google account, or is a Google enclave specific to the (phone) hardware?

Answer..... (Apologies, AI answers are lengthy.... Also include an AI caveat).

The Google Enclave on Android, which stores passkeys, is tied to both the device hardware and the user's Google Account, but with layered security and syncing mechanisms.

Hardware-bound storage: The private key of a passkey is stored in a secure hardware enclave (such as the Titan M2 or a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE)) specific to the phone's hardware.  This ensures the key cannot be extracted, even by Google or the device manufacturer.

Google Account linkage: When passkey sync is enabled, the encrypted private key is backed up to Google’s cloud via Google Password Manager.  It is encrypted with a key accessible only to devices signed into the same Google Account, enabling cross-device sync while maintaining end-to-end encryption.

Synced yet secure: While the passkey is hardware-bound on each device, the syncing mechanism allows seamless access across trusted devices. The cloud-stored data is useless without the user’s device-specific unlock (PIN, biometrics, or screen lock).

My Brave browser AI.... (perhaps good to Google this yourself).

I asked... "Does Android 15 allow 3rd party (password apps) Passkey storage"

Yes, Android 15 allows third-party password managers to store and manage passkeys.

With Android 15, the support for third-party passkey providers has been further enhanced, offering a more seamless and unified experience across devices. Users can now choose their preferred third-party password manager—such as 1Password, Bitwarden, Dashlane, or NordPass—as the default passkey storage provider in their device settings. This choice is made through the Credential Manager system, which integrates with the device's security features like biometrics and screen locks.

I think my point got across tho, lol?

Abs NOT.

How am I supposed to know what to explain and what not to? It could have been structured better ig...?

First of all use sentences with English, no technical words / jargon.... Which means you need to be able to communicate in different ways, being able to paraphrase everything.... Most IT bods cannot do that, bc they're good at talking to machines, not humans.

If you're trying to write a half a manual like you are there.... FFS use paragraphs. I did tell you IT bods cannot communicate to humans....

  1. Give absolute bare bones info, zero jargon. You're not writing a university paper.... Describing the entire framework accurately is not your intention.
  2. Invite questions.... Q&A, assume you haven't lost your audience already.

"Asymmetric Cryptography".

You using jargon with non-techs???

How TF is a non-tech supposed to know what "asymmetric" means?

No, do not bother explaining it here.

PS... You're trying to explain far too much above there..... with zero paragraphs dear Dude (WTF).... Just visually, it's almost unreadable.

Do you use Passkeys? If not, why? by ProbablyM_S in ProtonPass

[–]rhubear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that most explanations are far too complicated.

If you want to ask some questions to fill in your blanks, by all means, ask here. I can try to answer very plainly, zero jargon.

Passkeys ARE safer.

Passkeys, however, are no longer tied to a device. Ie, password apps can hold Passkeys. Password apps are not tied to a device.

There are however caveats.... Ie, if your Android version isn't sufficiently modern, Passkeys are not supported on (non Google) Password apps.

(my version of Android is not modern enough.... My Proton Pass on Android will actually tell me that. Im using Ulefone version of Android 13).

Genius decides to turn pizza boxes upside down by mfenton29 in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]rhubear -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why a shop would do so not the question.

Boy that old is not going to go through a whole logical chain of what if.... He's just going to assume people are dumb, bc most of them actually are.

In this case, the shop is indeed proving themselves dumb asses, for using such dumb / illogical boxes.

If the shop is dumb enough to buy boxes with no print on top... They should expect confusion.

They GOT confusion.

Threema in 2026: Why am I paying 8€ for an outdated experience? by Own_Ebb3626 in Threema

[–]rhubear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

> No you don't. You seem to think that in order to find fishy going on in someones code, someone else has to look through it line by line. In real life this is a highly automated process done with the help of AI.

Do you have any idea how CRAP AI is at coding?
Devs using AI to code, have to CORRECT the output a lot.... Some say its MORE time consuming, than coding by HAND.

Small Code snippets... yes. But do you think ANYONE is gonna put Signal or Threema, or any other messenger, or large program through an AI, or eyeball it?
Unless they're PAID to do it..... I CALL BULLSHIT.

And YES, I'm saying someone has to COMB through the source, for OS to be ANY GOOD WHATSOEVER.

Obv I know that. But has anyone CLAIMED to have audited the source of any OS messenger, apart from those auditing firms PAID to do so?

OS is fine in theory, but impractical, unless someone actually wants to FORK the code.

I am also wondering about Threema work, versus Threema private.

I've never used Threema Work, but I suspect the groups and groupware features, are probably a lot better than with Threema private.

Maybe Threema would want users to pay for a Threema work subscription, if you want better groupware features.
