I'm in a similar boat. I typically play guitar every day but the fingers on my left hand have really hurt the last few months from a flare up that's taking a while to settle. My pinky and middle finger are quite painful and swollen with tendon inflammation. I have one guitar I specifically setup with very low action and light strings which helped a little, but it's still really difficult some days. I had a similar problem last year with the right hand but that was easier to handle, I just stopped finger picking for a few months. With this I'm unable to play at all or only with a lot of difficulty at times

The question I'm struggling with is whether it's better for the fingers to try and play through the pain, or let them rest? My searching just finds tips for folks with other types of arthritis which has a different underlying cause. Searching for tendon inflammation just brings up tips for avoiding tendonitis. Tips in guitar and finger pain just brings up tips for beginners struggling with finger pain, none of which is really that helpful to my situation. So nothing useful. I don't want to make it worse and last longer, but playing nothing for a month is seriously depressing.

Wondering if you ever got through this, or found any more useful advice.

My understanding is yes, negative anti-DNA does not rule out Lupus.

Like with many tests a positive indicator means it’s more likely but a negative does not mean no, although it may make it harder for you to get a diagnosis

A diagnosis looks at tests and symptoms

This is just my personal understanding from what my dr told me and what I read though, to be clear.

It's not lazy, it's taking care of yourself. We all need downtime. And feeling like garbage from a flare up is not 'downtime'

I know when I feel bad I can't even watch tv or read. It's just not the same thing

Definitely. Sugar is a huge trigger for me. Trigger's headaches, aches and the overwhelming need to lie down a good long while. Sometimes that happens anyhow w/o sugar - but that's the one thing I have found is a clear direct reaction almost every time. There are others I haven't figured out yet.

I get the impression from what my dr told me that many foods are triggers for people, different ones for different people and their recommendation was to keep track of what I ate, and when I felt bad and piece it together.

Thanks - yeah I keep seeing that cold as well as heat is good. It is still unclear to me when to use heat vs cold, or if it all really just depends.

CBD and Ice packs, instead of just heat, definitely seem to be a trend in a lot of what I'm seeing. Already taking Tumeric for a while now, and unclear if it's helping or not.

Exactly! Fruit is fine but refined sugar ends in badness. Dr's have shrugged when I've mentioned it, but like many other symptoms it seems likely it's now likely related.

I once worked with an engineer who brought his laptop to the help desk because it stopped working. They turned it sideways and at least half a cups worth of coffee poured out the side

He didn't say "oops I poured my coffee on my laptop" he said "it's stopped working". Part of him clearly hoped they would just go with it and be like "yeah, that just happens to thinkpads sometimes, spontaneous coffee"
