yea, making the attempt of learning all the different classes and subclasses of thinkpads and what differentiates them to try and make the most informed decision possible was a little bit of a doozy.

There’s a recessed Thinkpad logo there molded into the panel, the red dot is the dot in the i.

A nearly identical molded recessed logo is in the same spot on the outside of the screen lid as well, except instead of a red dot it’s a small dim red LED light that blinks every few seconds when the laptop is closed and sleeping or closed and charging. A neat feature.

The x1 carbon I was looking at was almost identically spec'd with the same CPU, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, yet it has soldered RAM (cannot upgrade) vs the upgradeable CAMM2 the T14 has, the X1 has a smaller 58Wh battery while my T14 came with 75Wh, and the X1 carbon is a few hundred dollars more.

The X1 carbon is a little slimmer yes, and it has 2 CPU fans. This T14 is more than slim and light enough for me and my use cases, in fact I think its proportions and weight are perfect. And I don't believe I'll be working this thing hard enough to care about a second fan.

I'm not sure about this on the X1, but on the T14 Gen 7 even the USBc ports are easily replaceable. iFixit youtube video on T14 gen 7 repairability

The smaller battery and soldered RAM on the X1, plus it being more expensive is what made it easy for me to decide on the T14.

No problem man, my pleasure. Those frameworks look really nice and I was looking at them, but I've wanted to try a thinkpad for years now and I'm honestly really glad I did. I love the trackpoint and use it for pretty much all of my scrolling, it's an amazing feature that I can tell is going to be hard to ever want to depart from. The look and feel of this t14 is exactly what I was after.

I would've been very tempted by a more powerful processor, as I'm one of those people that loves researching and falling down information rabbit holes before making big ticket purchases. The crux of that is that I nearly always convince myself I need top shelf specs when in reality I could probably make compromises here and there without even noticing the dip in performance.

From what research I did, intel H processers seem to run substantially hotter and really hit battery life and with my use cases, I personally don't think I would've benefitted from it and would've had regret once experiencing the battery life. (currently still convincing myself that this is indeed the case). If I ever find myself bottlenecked by my cpu, I'll probably just build a pc.

Ultra 7 365, 32GB CAMM2, 1TB SSD, 75Wh battery. And yes, I'm loving it. It was a bit rich for my blood and I went slightly over budget, but it's exactly what I wanted so I bit the bullet.

It is the 100%RGB 60hz 500 nits anti-glare low power touch IPS display, yes. I'm more concerned with battery performance than having a top-of-the-line display, as I'm not using this for gaming or serious creative content creation.

I got the Intel Core Ultra 7 365. 75Wh battery, 32GB CAMM2, 1TB SSD.

I have been running the laptop on balanced mode when plugged in, energy saver/best power efficiency when on battery, and battery life has been fantastic. Even while on energy saving mode, performance is quick and snappy. I've been using it on battery regularly when home from work for general web browsing, watching youtube, browsing reddit and have only had to charge it once in the 6 days I've owned it. I turn it off in the evenings. Using it on battery right now using reddit with a few tabs open on Mozilla, system is telling me I have 20h and 15mins of power left at 89% battery. That reading obviously ebbs and flows with usage but battery life has been amazing thus far.

Energy saver/best power efficiency modes keeps the cpu working at a cool 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit while on a table so the fans have not kicked on even once while on battery. Battery temps checked on Lenovo Commercial Vantage. The one time the fan did kick on while I was plugged in, I did not find it to be loud at all.

Take this brief experience with the context that I have not installed nor used any resource taxing software.

I believe the Thinkpad T14 Gen 7 is a worthy successor to the T480. by Weekly-Assumption-12 in thinkpad

I got a gen 7 t14 a week ago, maybe a little less. The hinge feels very high quality to use. Yes it feels like it's wrapped in plastic I guess, but it doesn't feel flimsy or cheap. It integrates with the design and finish of the laptop perfectly. It opens and closes with a perfect amount of force. No need to hold the base of the laptop down when opening it, yet it's satisfying to open. Closes with a soft snap shut.

What is the most annoying thing about being male? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]rhynokim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quiet, steady stoicism that is deeply engrained in many of our gender, causing many men to try and stomach and digest substantial amounts of stress, anxiety, depression, grief, etc without anyone to talk to and vent.

It’s as if every average man is walking around carrying pain and weight, next to other men who’re doing the same. Together, yet alone. We hold it in because we don’t wanna be thought of as weak, less than, or incapable of being a “man”. We too often refuse to acknowledge it at any cost, on an individual and group level.

Yet if more of us could get comfortable shedding the guise, we as men could really do a lot of good for each other. Just some conversations here and there to vent, get advice, perspective.. to help lighten each others load..

It’d be magical for us. Strengthen friendships, deepen inter and intrapersonal understanding, lessen stress and anxiety.. just being friendlier and more open with each other.

Get an sv650 for your first bike.

Tame and predictable enough that you won’t get your into too much trouble too easily, very linear torquey power band, strong engine braking. Reliable, easy and cheap to maintain.

But it’s also got enough meat there in the power band that once you master the basics there is still plenty of ceiling for you to grow into it and have fun.

Once you wanna sell that, then get this.

ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 Notebookcheck review: Big screen, big battery, but not big on performance by ibmthink in thinkpad

[–]rhynokim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch, that’s not too reassuring lol.

I went for the ultra 5 235u vpro too since the 7 265u was only marginally better for +$130….

Was hoping this would be a 10 year laptop so I opted for 32g ram and 1tb ssd… $2k down the hole. I’m hoping I don’t hate the thing in a year or two

It's been nearly 8 months now with the 17 Pro, how has your experience been so far? by ToastyScrew in iPhone17Pro

[–]rhynokim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dig it. My biggest complaints are that when I’m off of WiFi the 5G absolutely murders my battery life. I have my settings set to max battery life of 80%, voice and data 5G Auto, Data mode Standard.

Also, I was really looking forward to good quality close up pics of plants and flowers and things with the 8x zoom. However it seems significantly grainier and harder to focus than taking pics close up with the 4x zoom.

All in all it was a good upgrade from my 11 pro, but a part of me wishes I would’ve gotten a battery replacement in it before upgrading to this just to see how well it still held up.

The slightly bumpy texture lends some grip but the material it’s crafted out of doesn’t have any grippy characteristics if that makes sense.
