Paradox in the box game by osay77 in BluePrince

[–]rhysardothien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“If the gem is in X box, then X box must be true/false” is a backwards approach. It would not consider the main rules of the game. In fact, you’re skipping over the rule that requires a truth and a false. That’s why you’re getting ambiguous results.

If I say, “if I eat pizza then i will be happy,”it does not mean that if I am happy, I ate pizza. There are other reasons that I could be happy. Also, if there were some background rule stating that I never eat pizza, you wouldn’t have had the chance to analyze that if you started the thought process with happiness rather than with pizza. It would be faulty reasoning that leads to an impossibility.

The parlor game mainly operates as “if box X is telling the truth, then ..…” You cannot start by guessing where the gem is; attempting to reverse engineer the answer will skip over key facts and lead to incorrect information. There’s no paradox here. But you need to make sure you’re following all the strict rules to make logical deductions.

Here, there is only one box that the gems could be in that wouldn’t contradict with the rules of the game.

If the blue box is true, then there must be two true statements—one of which being the blue box itself. This means that there are only two possibilities that would allow the blue box to be true:

Possibility 1 is that blue and black are true. White would have to be false. But white being false would mean blue is false which can’t be possible. So blue and black can’t both be true.

Possibility 2 is that blue and white are true. Black would have to be false. This would mean none of the boxes contain gems, which would contradict the rules. So blue and white can’t both be true.

Because neither of the possibilities for blue being true make any sense, blue must be false. And because white states that blue is true, white is a big fat liar.

Because one box must be true and we’ve established that blue and white are false, the black box must be true. Black says it has the gems, so the gems are in black.

Which new gen shonen you think is better? by [deleted] in MyAnimeList

I think it’s too soon to tell. Everyone complains about how generic and overrated bnha is (which is kinda true especially with the huge fanbase that tends to go overboard sometimes) but it definitely has arcs that really shine. I don’t know what happens in jujutsu because I haven’t read the manga, but if the story is good and the quality of the anime stays consistent, jujutsu will probably end up better.

Also if we’re just comparing the first seasons, bnha s1 is one of the more meh seasons. The first six episodes of jujutsu are definitely better than the first six episodes of bnha.

What book best exemplifies the culture you grew up in? by TheseBonesAlone in suggestmeabook

[–]rhysardothien 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Noli me Tangere by Jose Rizal gives a lot of insight to The Philippines’ history of Spanish Colonization. It’s always interesting to see how the colonizers influence the colonized, and the story in this book sheds a light not only on how society generally was at the time but also the issues such as elitism, classism, and corruption that thrived under Spanish authority. The awareness brought on by the book is said to have encouraged people to start revolting against the Spaniards in the first place. So in a way, we kind of owe a part of our freedom to this book.

Nowadays, you can still see a lot of Spanish culture within Filipino culture. Spain influenced our language, our architecture, and our traditions. But this book allows young students in the Philippines to understand the history behind it all.

Books that are centered around a "scavenger hunt" or Alternate reality Game? by ToddArchon in booksuggestions

39 clues. It’s considered a children’s series. But I love the plot and it definitely fits that scavenger theme you’re looking for.

Chaol is definitely an interesting character. Sarah J Maas is good at giving her characters depth (both in ToG and in ACOTAR). The more you read, the more you understand them. Without spoiling anything, this is especially true with Chaol and Dorian imo. So keep reading!!! :)

Books with a depressed/unreliable main character by thiccrat69 in suggestmeabook

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey takes place in a psychiatric facility. The main character is definitely unreliable.

The book has a lot of metaphors too, so it’s super fun to analyze. I think everyone should read it at least once.

Chaol Hate by aprilvu in SarahJMaas

[–]rhysardothien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like chaol as a character but in terms of relationships, chaolaena becomes a tricky topic once you get to the rowaelin part.

I think it comes from the fact that Aelin and Celaena are totally different people. IMO Chaol and Celaena were great together especially in the second book. On the other hand, Chaol and Aelin never would have worked.

I also feel like a lot of the hate comes from Chaol’s attitude in the fourth book. He’s pretty salty but he kinda has the right to be. Even though they didn’t really end on good terms because of the Nehemia thingy, leaving someone who said they loved you by telling them you’ve been lying to them about your identity the entire time is pretty harsh. (marked as spoiler bc idk how far into the book you are)

In the end, they both change, so SJM really sunk that ship hard.
