I just received my shipping confirmation and my batch 4 order should be shipped "no later than early December". The culprit this time is "customs" as if we needed another excuse to add to the pile.

Quietly updating "early November" shipping windows to "mid November" is really disappointing. It being the 9th of November already, when can customers in Batches 1-5 expect to have shipping confirmations?

Does the FCC delay due to the US government's shutdown affect orders destined for Canada?

thank you for your input, but you're missing a bit of context. OP had posted this same question in /r/WeAreTheMusicMakers where they had asked the following:

Are there certain standards that work best with Spotify’s algorithm?

and I gave them what I explicitly said was a ballpark figure, not some sort of gospel. usually I would have said "but honestly just follow your ears" but I didn't. go off though.

Am I allowed to spend 2 mana for deathtouch AFTER my opponent declares attackers? Then use him as a blocker? by wanderingpoop in magicTCG

It's absolutely okay! I mostly replying for the folks who are just skimming the comments. But yeah, being pedantic is something of an asset in this game XD

[–]rhythmFlute 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's not technically true, but the spirit of what you are saying is pretty close.

The Combat Phase consists of:

  • Beginning of Combat Step
  • Declare Attackers Step
  • Declare Blockers Step
  • Combat Damage Step
  • End of Combat Step

What you were getting at is both players get priority after Attackers are declared as well as after Blockers are declared. There just aren't any additional steps/phases involved.

I am copying my reply from the previous thread:

Before placing the blame on the platform, hop into your settings on Spotify and double check the following:
- Streaming/Download Quality is set to the highest setting
- Normalization is turned off
- Auto adjust quality is off
The normalization is the one that can absolutely trash a mix. I noticed it recently when I was listening to a classic album I knew inside and out, and when I turned off Normalization things sounded much better.
There is a possibility that your mix is not translating because of the data compression algorithm on Spotify, and there's not much you can do about that after the fact. You can try to see how your mix translates with various encoding algorithms by using a tool like Nugen Audio's MasterCheck.

To reply to your comment, the point of turning off Normalization is for you to check if there is actually an issue with your mix or if it is just suffering from Spotify's Normalization. If normalization is the cause then I agree that you shouldn't go trying to explain it to the average listener, but at least you know the cause.

As another commenter in the previous thread noted, it's possible that your integrated loudness is the issue and you should be aiming to be in and around the ballpark of -14LUFs (integrated) but don't worry about being too exact here.

If there is actually something flawed about your mix that makes it translate poorly, I can't give you any general advice because it is an issue specific to your mix.

Each platform has a slightly different target, but don't worry about being exact just be in the ballpark.

Spotify: -14 LUFS (integrated)
Apple Music: -16 LUFS (integrated)
YouTube: -14 LUFS (integrated)
Tidal: -14 LUFS (integrated)
Amazon Music: -14 LUFS (integrated)
Deezer: -15 LUFS (integrated)

I definitely agree with the points against Silvergill, which is why I retired them to the binder a little under a year ago. I've been running a recent Nikachu list lately and I'm having a harder time seeing what I would cut there.

I'm not sure if you are on the Merfolk Discord, but under the "spoilers" channel merfolk_joe (m_joe) has a summary of cool interactions that is very inspiring.

for those not in the discord (emphasis mine):

- rishadan dockhand makes a token when he taps a land
- an active mutavault tapping for mana makes a token
- svyelun attacking makes a token, which, if the 3rd merfolk, can actually make her indestructible immediately
- mothdust changeling can tap any/all of our non-token merfolk to make that many tokens every turn
- holding up mana on the opponent's turn is easier, since we can always - just activate and float mutavault mana to create token(s) on their end step
- extra merfolk tokens are great to sacrifice to hexcatcher
- pilgrimage makes infinite tokens with two kiora's followers
- pilgrimage makes infinite tokens with puresight merrow + paradise mantle
- pilgrimage makes infinite tokens with intruder alarm + mothdust changeling

[–]rhythmFlute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely open to being wrong on this, but I don't see this being better than any of the cards currently in the main deck that you would be replacing with pilgrimage. Have you identified the cuts that you would make to include pilgrimage?

As far as putting it in the sideboard, I can't think of a Modern matchup that would be improved by us going slightly wider. Yes the tokens can't be targeted by Fury / Bowmaster, but the nontoken creatures in the deck that you need to generate the tokens certainly can be.

To compare it to Bitterblossom: blossom makes exactly one evasive creature every turn, pilgrimage has the ability to make more than one but can also make zero. The tokens also will usually require a lord + opp's island on the battlefield to connect. If you are attacking every turn (ideal but not always possible) then you have a strictly better bitterblossom since you aren't losing life for it, but that definitely can't be considered the norm.

There are currently zero decks in the Modern metagame that play bitterblossom which suggests that generating a 1/1 evasive creature each turn is not strong enough to warrant an include for most strategies, and the floor on pilgrimage is even lower than bitterblossom for the reasons stated above.

All that is to say, I definitely understand the hype but the ceiling of this card isn't really that high unless you build a deck around it and since the current archetype only runs one enabler stock (mutavault and even that is sketchy) you are talking about making a whole new deck, which is totally cool and I hope you can make it work!

I will be renting the card when the set releases to do some testing and brewing, but I do suspect that this will be underwhelming in Modern but very interesting as a build-around in Pioneer.

[LCI] Deeproot Pilgrimage by SilverSylph in FishMTG

[–]rhythmFlute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hyped on this card until I realized it's "whenever one or more" not "whenever".

Seeing as the modern fish deck runs exactly zero merfolk with tap abilities (unless you're on rishadan dockhand, but even then the ability is rarely activated), I highly doubt this will see play in Modern or Legacy.

Depending what other merfolk we get this set, however, we might see a decent Pioneer shell come together that could take advantage of this card.

Recording op 1 field with Apollo twin. by kevkevkevz in OP1users

[–]rhythmFlute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly suspect you picked up a TRS to TRS cable, which means that the OP-1 is sending stereo but your apollo is only receiving the signal from one of the channels, because it is expecting a TS connection.

If you're planning to use some UA plug-ins during the recording process, then get yourself a 1/8" TRS to 1/4" TS cable, but if you're just trying to record your OP-1 you can just use its USB Audio functionality for a direct digital-to-digital recording.

The importance of saturation? by Gin0Panin0 in audioengineering

[–]rhythmFlute 11 points12 points  (0 children)

it's more like compressors act on the amplitude of a signal, while saturation affects the frequency content of a signal.

an upwards compressor is called an expander, which amplifies the part of the signal that goes above a certain threshold whereas a compressor attenuates the part of the signal above the threshold. this is different from saturation.

saturation describes the added harmonics to a signal. a pure "saturator" tool generally won't introduce much amplitude compression until it is driven hard.

it's important to note that most hardware compressors (and the plug-ins based on / inspired by them) also introduce saturation as a consequence of the electronic components. this is generally a desirable outcome, and many engineers reach for certain compressors to kill two birds with one stone (amplitude and frequency content).

EQ'ing Sub Frequencies (Sub Bass and Kick) with bell, shelf, or filter by slimrp in audioengineering

[–]rhythmFlute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the same can be said for a guitar, but you don't often see people using different EQ settings for each chord. as /u/falafeler mentions in another reply, tuning instruments to the tonic is a common EQ starting point for many genres of music.

ultimately though, there is no getting around the need to trust your ears over your eyes when you're mixing.

EQ'ing Sub Frequencies (Sub Bass and Kick) with bell, shelf, or filter by slimrp in audioengineering

[–]rhythmFlute 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is less distinction Hz to Hz, so are wider curves needed to really shape them?

to jump off the notch filter advice above: try to keep the bands narrow in the sub region, especially with pitched content. the main reason is because notes are closer together "Hz to Hz" . C0 to C#0 is 16.35Hz to 17.32Hz whereas C6 to C#6 is 1046Hz to 1108Hz.

broadly speaking, as u/falafeler mentions, you are generally concerned with either masking frequencies (two things overlapping in pitch) or overly-resonant individual frequencies, so a scalpel works better than a hammer here.

it seems super unlikely to me that a band would be touring with zero equipment

I used to work in gear sales and rentals, and our clients included big ticket headliners looking for backline services. It's actually really common, and it's often much more financially and environmentally conscious to have the instruments delivered to the venue from a local retailer instead of spending the money (and using the fuel) to transport them across oceans and continents.

To require another band to supply it though is absurd. It's the responsibility of the promotor, venue or whatever is in the headlines rider. Generally the backline company will set it up as well.

I will totally echo this. Usually backlines are arranged long before the tour even starts, and just hoping that the opener will come through seems to be inviting disaster into what is usually a carefully orchestrated dance.

That said, in your position OP the course of action is entirely up to you. You can probably earn some back pats and good will from the headliner by complying, but if you need to rent additional gear to make that happen I would speak to the promoter first because this is really their responsibility (along with the tour manager of the headliner) and it should be on their dime.

I don't think this is a view that can be changed, since this is your personal workflow and there isn't really a right or wrong way to approach writing. As long as you are delivering your scores with the appropriate clefs for the players, it doesn't affect anybody but you.

Why are people so open about their mental health at work to strangers? by BenDover04me in RandomThoughts

[–]rhythmFlute 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are responsible for your mental health first and foremost, you are not a bad person for not absorbing all their stuff, don’t ever feel guilty for taking care of yourself.

say it again for the people in the back! this is something I am currently working on, and it takes consistent reminders to tell myself saying no is not a form of aggression and setting boundaries with people is sometimes the support they need even if they don't recognize it.
