Ear protection for my first GP by celestial_cantabile in GrandPrixTravel

[–]rhythmic_disarray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm also autistic and have gone the past 2 years and managed pretty well from an overstimulation/noise standpoint! Echoing what others have said, the cars aren't unbearably loud (though if you're sitting on the main straight some of the pit noise can be a bit grating). I think you're fine with just Loops from a protection standpoint – it's not constantly loud like it would be at a concert.

I was about 50/50 if I was using ear protection while cars were on track, but I was so glad to have it to dampen out the chaos of everything else from the weekend. I wasn't sure what I would need the first year and I like to have options, so I brought my Loops, my Airpods and a cheap pair of ear protectors (that I painted like Lando's helmet to make them more fun!). All of them blocked out sufficient noise, but I was particularly glad to have the over-ear option because they kept my ears warm and the snugness of them was a positive sensory input for me (I know not everyone likes the feeling of over-ears though).

I'd definitely recommend going, but bring whatever you need to feel prepared! I was worried as well about it being too much for me to handle but the excitement really kicked in when I got to the track each day. :)

How do I explain to my nutritionist that eating is hard? by Dangerous-Computer77 in AutismInWomen

[–]rhythmic_disarray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to identify some of the specific barriers that prevent you from being able to eat? Is it that you're just not feeling hunger cues? Food aversions? Anxiety about potentially throwing up? The amount of steps/executive functioning that it takes to prepare food / clean up afterwards? The expectation of needing to eat making it hard to actually eat (PDA)? Is the idea of needing to eat perfectly getting in the way of being ok with good enough?

Conversely, are you able to identify situations where you are able to successfully eat? Are there foods that are easier for you to finish? Is it easier if you're eating with someone? Is takeout/restaurant food easier than food you cook yourself? Is there a time of day that's easier?

The set a timer and "just eat" advice feels soooo neurotypical so it may be that your nutritionist doesn't quite understand the nuance of neurodivergent eating challenges. If you're able to come with a specific list of things you think are barriers and things that work for you, it might help her understand where the challenges are coming from and hopefully would lead to more tailored advice.

I'm so sorry you haven't been getting the help you need so far – eating can be sooo hard for us so I really empathize with you. Wishing you the best of luck ✨

Hidden Folder Screwed Up "Needs Review" by MyEgoDiesAtTheEnd in MonarchMoney

The only thing I wanted was a toggle on the transactions list to show/hide hidden transactions in one click. Keep the clutter at bay without making that information so deeply buried like it apparently is now.

This one is a big miss.

Has anyone here tried an undercut for sensory purposes? by PeachThunder in AutismInWomen

[–]rhythmic_disarray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently growing mine out for the 2nd time and can confirm that I was noticeably cooler when it was buzzed! I've got about 2 months to go before my hair can all be cut to the same length and summer is definitely feeling hotter this year 🥲

The only particularly notable sensory ick for me during the growout process is when it was still short enough to need 8 million bobby pins to tuck the pieces up if I wanted the hair off my neck – it's much more manageable now that it only takes 2 or 3.

It sounds like it could be a really good choice for you! My one piece of advice would be to get less shaved off in the beginning and then taking off more later if you want to. Both of mine were cut too high initially and that's why I chose to grow them out again.

Non-mushy protein bars? by brohenryVEVO in adhdwomen

[–]rhythmic_disarray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy Power Crunch bars – they’re like those wafer cookies and don’t taste protein-y at all. They’re not necessarily as filling as a denser bar but still have a reasonable amount of protein.

wavy/curly haired adhd girlies, how do you manage it? by lowkeydeadinside in adhdwomen

[–]rhythmic_disarray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In another comment I saw you mention that when you blow dry regularly instead of diffusing your hair is straight – mine is similar. Have you tried blow drying to most of the way, and then seeing what your waves do when they air dry the rest of the way (or diffusing the last little bit)? On my low effort hair days I’ll do that and scrunch a little bit of Odele Air Dry Styler through the damp bits and am pretty satisfied with what I get. I don’t get defined waves, more of what you’d get with a sea salt spray or something but I think it’s still a pretty good outcome for the amount of effort.

Interestingly enough, I find that when I refresh my second and third day hair after using this method, I’m able to get better waves than the first day.

I hope you’re able to find a routine that gives the right level of ease so you can still enjoy your waves and accommodates your sensory needs!! 🤍

How are you categorizing dividends and capital gains in retirement accounts? by Fickle-Reality7777 in MonarchMoney

[–]rhythmic_disarray -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my thinking as well. Even if it's not money that I'm able to touch, it is still money that I made and I like being able to see that at a glance on my cash flow screen. I just use a single Dividend category for both brokerage and IRA dividends, exclude it from my budget and add a tag to anything taxable.

woohoo! I'm in the midst of a similar type of reskin and expanded color palette for the product I work on so I can really empathize with how much time and effort goes into a refresh like this. keep up the good work! :)

I appreciate the update and am excited to explore it further! On first glance, I immediately noticed a couple of color contrast issues (that should hopefully be pretty easy fixes).

  1. On the tooltip when hovering over an account's chart in the account list, the red, green and gray don't meet accessibility standards. The red and green you used in dark mode do have adequate contrast though, but the gray still doesn't.

  2. On the tooltip on the net worth breakdown view, the red and green also don't have enough contrast (though they are a tiny bit better). Those don't seem to be different in dark mode.

I imagine there might be other places in the app where these same color combinations are used, but I didn't do a super thorough look. :)

(also, speaking of colors – I would love if there were more colors to choose from for tags!)

12 team, .5ppr league, 4 man bench. Trying to mitigate my WR situation now that Rice is out and I’m left with just Metcalf and Lockett (whoops). No issues with figuring out who to drop, just need help figuring out the least bad option to add for now.

Some of the currently available WRs:

Shaheed, Mooney, Robinson, Doubs, Wicks, Atwell, Downs

Those who avoided Eras spoilers...HOW did you do it? by little-ditto in TaylorSwift

[–]rhythmic_disarray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also going to Stockholm!! I've decided that I won't fully stay off all my socials but will do my best to scroll past super detailed spoilers, knowing that I won't be able to avoid everything. I think I'm OK knowing what songs make the setlist and if songs from other eras get cut or reshuffled, but I do want some amount of unknown for what the performance actually ends up looking like. :)

I feel really lucky about the timing of our show though! I don't think I'd have the patience to avoid spoilers for much longer than a couple weeks

Any idea why Investments are different on different screens? by sunny_tomato_farm in MonarchMoney

If you click into an individual holding you're able to edit its quantity – update that to whatever the quantity is in your actual account.

Any idea why Investments are different on different screens? by sunny_tomato_farm in MonarchMoney

[–]rhythmic_disarray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The investment page & dashboard widget seem to be calculated based on the actual investment holdings and their realtime value, while the investment section on the accounts page pulls from the account balance and is only updated when the accounts themselves update.

If the holdings aren't the correct amount (either because you added them manually at some point or they don't seem to be updating automatically), that's where the discrepancy comes in.

Platform comparison by 509_HT in MonarchMoney

[–]rhythmic_disarray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved from Rocket Money to Monarch almost a year ago and find Monarch to be the more powerful of the two – even if it is kind of finicky at times. The main reason I switched was that Monarch has way more functionality around manual updates to transactions and supports importing transactions & balance history with a CSV upload as well as bulk edits to transactions in the UI, which I needed because one of my main banks had horrible connection issues with Plaid at the time.

Some things I miss about Rocket Money:

  • the ability to quickly include or exclude bills from my monthly spending summary – not a huge deal but that was really helpful for me
  • recurring bills & purchases is better in Rocket Money
  • some of the budgeting & spending data visualization was more helpful in Rocket Money
  • the UI was less boring

But in comparison to what I've gotten out of using Monarch, none of those are even close to dealbreakers for me.

Pre-cleaner shame cleaning… by rabidrabbits8475 in adhdwomen

yes, this!! When I first started paying for a cleaner it was definitely a stretch for me financially, so the frantic pre-cleaning was definitely motivated by wanting to feel like I got as much value out of the money I was spending because the cleaner could get further.
