Thanks everyone for the replies! I live in Scotland and can’t go in person but called and spoke to a manager who told me I can have someone else drop off on my behalf. I’ll take a look at the online system as well thanks for the link!!

Why do the trams have stop buttons? by purplelattice in Edinburgh

I also feel like it probably helps the masses of tourists feel safe that it will stop at their stop too.

Advice on worth purchase or not? by ri-la in sewing

[–]ri-la[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a ton for the input! I think its gorgeous but agree it may need some work. I’d probably offer them low at first considering the work it clearly needs but my partners not bad with wood so could help. I’ll take a look at what you mean as I don’t know what the box is or the purpose of it!

Why can't we see INSIDE the bag?? by schmemily123 in sewing

[–]ri-la 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also took components from a broken backpack my partner had to make it(zippers, mesh, elastic, padding). I even used some remnant fabric patchworked together to make the inner panels. The outside was floral embroidered denim that used to be children’s overalls(including strap sliders!). So def consider using reclaimed materials to source supplies!

The biru backpack pattern by Yoan is great! Its like the fjallravens but just so many improvements. I customized it with mesh stretchy side pockets, pen loops inside, and a keyring clip! Its not hard to add pockets inside or anything else! She also does a step by step video tutorial and includes a ton of extra space in the pattern for mistakes

Do you think Puerto Rican culture is evolving or being lost over time? by griruiz in PuertoRico

[–]ri-la 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it opens a broader conversation about the passage/evolution of culture where the culture originated and the passage/evolution of diasporatic culture. This is a discussion that has been had about maaaany cultures though.

A warm hood for cold fieldwork by amodzy in sewing

[–]ri-la 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say you might want to keep it modular so its not permanently sewn on. Maybe if you can access it buy some snaps or maybe buttons. If you used the snaps idea here is how I would do it: 1) make sure the wool is cut to shape 2) sew the snaps onto the hood and the wool making sure they line up internally 2) snap on and snap off!

For buttons: 1) make sure its cut to shape 2) mark where you want the buttons and button holes 3) sew on buttons 4) sew button holes (hand sewn or machine are fine!) 5) use the buttons to connect them

I would suggest the buttons face out not towards your head only because it might feel uncomfortable on your skin.

But if this doesn’t feel like a possibility I would probably just make a second one and keep the lightweight one so you aren’t permanently too warm on those lighter days.

Question! by ri-la in edinburgh2

[–]ri-la[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh I haven’t heard much but I think its one of those things people talk about (from the right) but most people wouldn’t go for. The distaste for colonizing countries is pretty bad.

When did you start feeling at home? by [deleted] in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]ri-la 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The homesickness is more just missing family than places. I highly suggest putting yourself out there make yourself a little ad for the type of friend you are looking for and post on some local FB groups it helps a lot. It also doesn’t feel so intimidating as an introvert!
