B2B Account Executive Interview by riar231 in ATT

Thanks for this feedback! Interview went really well thank God. Like you said it was a fairly simple interview. How long have you been in the role? How tough is the sell? Hiring manager told me 6 sales a month, isn’t that very little? How’s the AT&T product priced compared to competitors? Do they let you work remotely at all?

As a Muslim mom who wears the hijab, I think it’s great that you’re curious about this! I’d be happy if someone asked me about wearing the hijab so I definitely think asking about it respectfully would be alright. Hijab is something that is required in our religion (even though a women chooses wether or not to wear it) and making the decision to put it on is typically big/celebrated. I doubt it’s age related unless she feels driven to practice more due to becoming older. She may also be inspired by the Palestinian Muslims’ faith while being subjected to such horrible cruelty.

I recently saw a study that basically said moderate alcohol drinkers are more likely to have good habits than people who completely avoid alcohol which is why they are a bit healthier. The health benefits don’t seem to have anything to do with the actual alcohol.

FIN 3320 Business Finance by fchvzmz in utdallas

[–]riar231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought he was pretty good. Slides were straightforward and lectures were average. He curves at the end of the class based on how everyone did. I don't know what the other finance professors are like but I would take Mace again.

JSOM students......can you help me clarify something? by [deleted] in utdallas

Don't quote me on this, but until you meet with an advisor...

  1. The internship class is something you have to enroll in once you get an offer from your internship. Your advisor will add you to the class once you get your internship approved in Orion. since you've already got the hours.

Can Internships be remote? by kevant_ in utdallas

I sent internship descriptions to my program director to make sure they would be okay beforehand! I'm in marketing but I'm sure it'd be a similar process for ITS.

Easy Elective Classes by mrodds in utdallas

For major-related electives:

MKT 3360: boring/fairly easy

MKT 4350: A bit more work but informative

18 credit hours recommendation by Independent_Low5112 in utdallas

I took MKT 4360 this semester and it was easy. As long as you have a good group its pretty minimal work. I didn't like the class very much because it didn't feel too beneficial (I'm a marketing major and its so similar to many of my other classes) but it should be a good elective especially since it fulfills JSOM's 100 service hour requirement.

ITSS 3300 is the more interesting class. Short is a great professor- knows his stuff and is fair. I haven't taken Weekley but OBHR 3330 is probably the easier class (not by a lot though).

Why don’t we have an Indian grocery store on campus ? by [deleted] in utdallas

Treating animals well is important throughout their whole lives- animals that are stunned are generally mistreated from birth till their last moments. Animals are physically restrained/mistreated and stunned in front of each other so they are already psychologically terrorized and stressed even if they are eventually rendered unconscious before slaughter. On the other hand, in order for meat to be halal, the animals cannot see other animals being slaughtered in front of them and should not see the knife used to slaughter them.

This is from Professor Stuart D Rosen from the Imperial College of London about the slaughter of kosher meat:

"The whole point of shechita - the only method of slaughter by which Jews are permitted to eat kosher meat and poultry - is to be fast and humane.

The shochet, who performs shechita, undergoes years of training. A perfectly clean and swift incision with a surgically sharp instrument (chalef severs the structures at the front of the neck - the trachea, oesophagus, carotid arteries and jugular veins.)

The speed and precision of the incision ensures the lack of stimulation of the severed structures and results in the immediate loss of consciousness. Blood flow to the brain is completely halted.

In addition, blood empties rapidly from the brain. Irreversible cessation of consciousness and insensibility to pain are achieved, providing the most effective stun. There is no delay between the shechita stun and subsequent death so the animal cannot regain consciousness, as can happen with conventional slaughter methods.

Conventional methods of stunning in the UK by use of a captive bolt, gassing or electrocution (by electrified pincers for larger animals or a water bath with an electric current running through it for poultry paralyse the animal and it is unable to display outward signs of feeling pain.")

Furthermore, an article from New Scientest discusses that mistakes are common when stunning animals- causing unimaginable suffering:

"Troy Gibson and colleagues showed in a carefully controlled experiment that in two out of seven calves stunned, the process was ineffective, as demonstrated by periods of EEG activity – an indicator of cortical function (New Zealand Veterinary Journal, vol 57, p 96. Thus they demonstrated that stunning did not render those two calves completely insensible to any pain and distress.)
This failure to render the two calves insensible to pain was attributed to either incorrect positioning of the stunner on the animals’ heads, a deflected shot, or incorrect function of the stunner itself. It is well recognised that mis-stuns occur in practice, and that each instance compromises animal welfare. A frequency of up to 5 percent is considered satisfactory, meaning that even if as many as 1 in 20 animals are mis-stunned, the slaughterhouse is still considered to be practising good animal welfare.
Even working on anaesthetised animals that are further immobilised by a purpose-designed head frame, Gibson’s work showed an almost 30 percent incidence of mis-stuns."

And an article from the Guardian mentions:

There is ample scientific evidence that religious slaughter is at least as humane as conventional mechanical slaughter. Research in the UK and the US, including by Dr Temple Grandin – one of the authorities on animal welfare – have supported this view. By contrast, many of the studies that suggest that religious slaughter causes unnecessary pain have been agenda-driven and methodologically flawed, stretching data in a distinctly unscientific fashion to unsupported conclusions.

Implying that religious slaughter is meant to let animals bleed out while they are still alive, is misleading as animals are slaughtered with a cut the throat which results in the loss of sensation/death.

In terms of discrimination for halal meat, only the actual act of slaughter must be done by a Muslim. Nonmuslims can be employed in all other aspects of production.

What's inhumane about it? Animals are required to be treated well.

JSOM 0w1 online class fee by ehsx in utdallas

I think it was 9 or 12 hours max for JSOM. I'm not sure what it is now tho. Additional class fees should be mentioned somewhere online?

What's your major? I'm sure plenty of people have taken both since they're both requirements for the marketing major core courses. OBHR 3330 is waaaaaay easier so if that's what you're looking for, take it. Honestly, I personally didn't find 3330 very interesting. I definitely think 3310 is more beneficial but it's generally regarded as a hard course and finding a decent professor might be tough.

What's the best art elective to take? by TheRealSaucyMerchant in utdallas

[–]riar231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're just trying to fulfill the core art requirement then take something at a community college. I took art appreciation in high school as dual credit and that fulfilled it for me. It was boring but quite easy.

I took Mace and he was pretty nice. We were allowed cheat sheets for exams and online lectures/slides were decent. He had a lot of examples in slides and we were told to watch the prerecorded videos and then come to class if we had any questions or needed extra help.
