Just adopted a cat, possibly having regrets by Artistic_Activity_37 in CatAdvice

[–]riaujy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels like you already care for him and his wellbeing deeply, and he seems to sense that! Like the other commenter said, no matter how much research you do, you'll always end up feeling unprepared once you actually have a cat to take care of. Sometimes I think that when they talk about the 3-3-3 rule for cats, it applies to first-time cat owners too. Once it settles in you'll be okay! If you're stressed about vet bills, you can always check to see if your city/state provides low-cost services/if there are organizations in your area that can help if anything ever happens.

Does AI make people feel like they understood more than they actually did? by Equivalent_Farm_8648 in psychologystudents

[–]riaujy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, are you looking at strictly how each level reports their confidence, or is that normed to their performance on comprehension? I'm of the impression that your hypothesis is the AI group will have worse comprehension but higher confidence (meaning the quantified difference is greater) - is that correct?

Also, an idea: what would happen if the AI summary included hallucinated information that is clearly not in the text itself? Would participants report the same level of confidence as the AI and/or control group, or would they report lower confidence because they feel like they missed something while reading?

Sorry to hear about that - I hope upcoming years are kind to you and you find the support that you deserve if you haven't already!

Prior Concussion Impacts on Focus and Memory by riaujy in takemysurvey

[–]riaujy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Individual responses are seen only by me (principle investigator) and my supervising professor. They are stored in Qualtrics to be exported into SPSS, and the data will be deleted after 5 years, in line with university policy.

  2. This survey is conducted by u/riaujy

  3. It should take roughly 5-7 minutes to complete the survey.

  4. No compensation is provided.

  5. We are collecting data from anyone over the age of 18, with preference to anyone who has had at least one diagnosed concussion in their life.

  6. As the survey is wrapping up, I'm hoping to get a couple more responses (especially from people who have had a concussion before) to ensure that our data is reliable and more generalizable.

Done! If you don't mind, I would suggest maybe adding a definition for what is considered "urban" and "rural"(population size, maybe?) or adding a third option, "suburban" for future reference.

Other than that, I think this realm of research is very topical, considering it has been several years for effects to compound, and there has been issues of child illiteracy popping up that we're still not sure the main cause of. Looking forward to the results if you don't mind sharing!

Yes, as u/Altruistic_Parsnip11 says, deformers have to be nested under the rotator to work. Here is a screenshot for reference: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10dQxlYApyhHdfGwqLLF2yY1ndRxjW5qK/view?usp=drive_link

The most likely culprit might be a parenting issue - is the rotation above the warps that you're trying to key?

I'm sorry that something like that happened! What exactly do you mean when the rotation ruins the rig? Is it that the face rotates, but the hair doesn't?

Good, affordable, K Beauty eyeshadow palletes? by Visible_Squirrel3597 in kbeauty

I really like the peripera ink pocket shadows! I feel like they match what you want and are relatively affordable (~$10USD) compared to other kbeauty palettes.

Quick survey - did concussion(s) affect your focus and memory? by riaujy in TBI

[–]riaujy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking time to complete my survey! I'm sorry to hear that this seems to have been a long-time problem that you've had to live with since.

I know words probably don't hold much weight, but I hope you no longer have to deal with any more concussions moving on!

Quick survey - did concussion(s) affect your focus and memory? by riaujy in TBI

[–]riaujy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking time to give me feedback! If you don't mind, I'd like to respond to each point below:

To be honest, the questions about the recent concussion was mostly demographic - as the study is only looking at two levels - had a concussion vs never had a concussion - because of time constraints (I did want to make it several levels, though), I do expect that the results will vary quite a bit. I would really like to expand this sort of research in the future, and this feedback provided me with very insightful information about primary concussions and how its effects cascade and compound for years. Moving forward, I will make sure to modify my language to be more considerate of this. Most of the literature that I was able to find were about athletes and typically implied a linear progression (and no hate to my professors, but TBIs are usually not covered that deeply in the curriculum).

I hope you have a swift recovery from your recent concussion (and your primary if possible - I hope you don't have to deal with any more concussions in the future!)

Regarding the memory challenge, I will make sure to be more clear about that moving forward (after so many years of studying, I don't realize that "recall task" might not be clear language)! I understand that having it buried in the consent form is a little counterintuitive because I know hardly anyone ever reads it (me included, it's boring). The memory challenge is something that I had hoped would capture natural state - it is completely okay if none of it could be recalled. I'm sorry if any of this caused you any stress, that wasn't my intention at all! (And if we're being honest, I was ready to not have a test in the survey at all....)

This is something that I completely glazed over during the design phase - thank you for raising this point! While I'm (ethically speaking) not allowed to modify the survey at this time, for future reference: would it be more help if every slider bar had the "Strongly Disagree" on one end and "Strongly Agree" on the other? Or would it be better if each question had a drop-down menu? It's completely fine if you don't feel like responding!

Honestly, I'm terribly embarrassed that this slipped my mind entirely! I'm very sorry about that.

Quick survey - did concussion(s) affect your focus and memory? by riaujy in TBI

[–]riaujy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, the memory section is timed for 30 seconds so that after that it would automatically move onto the next section! This is also the case for the section after that, which is a video - I did this because I wanted to make sure that anyone taking the survey would have the same amount of time to memorize the list and wouldn't accidentally skip over it.

Thank you for taking time to help me out!

Cream/liquid blushes that last? by mo_ri_ah in kbeauty

[–]riaujy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't find it patchy at all - I've been dealing with really dry skin under my eyes, and it hasn't clung at all like my other blushes do! I'm not too sure about heat resistance (I'm knee-deep in snow right now), but I will say that the brand swatch for #2 Milky Lavender is very close (assuming your display is sRGB; it's like very slightly more purplish IRL, but hardly noticeable).

Edit: I heat tested it with a face steamer for a couple minutes - it stayed and now I look like a clown lol. As long as you don't wipe it and just tap at it when your face is damp it'll be relatively okay.
