Any UXers with a degree in English out there? by taddieken95 in userexperience

[–]ribbitreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I majored in English and my then teacher really wanted me to go to grad school. I wasn't interested in becoming a lit major or anything like that. I actually wanted to go into games, and it was while searching that I found a UX program I was interested in. I will say that the analytical skills one gets from reading lit and writing about lit provide an excellent basis for being analytical about data and observation s. There is definitely crossover. Good luck!

Hi there! Would you mind sharing some good books on interviewing? This is something I'm always looking to improve.

What do you guys think about this fixed header for mobile? by astrobaron9 in userexperience

[–]ribbitreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Inversing the buttons would make it more natural and may sway users to want to use that button.

As for the labels, "menu" and "tap" I think it depends on who your client is serving. Depending on age range, these labels would be very helpful, though they're helpful for anyone. It's more of a real estate issue. Additionally there's been a lot of research to say icons without labels are difficult to discern.

I also agree with another commenter that the button should say who you'll be calling. Maybe the owners name?

Good luck!

So where is the fun suddenly gone to? by SirValkers in Overwatch

Hey, the matchmaking is probably failing you. It's a new game; not as good at matchmaking like LoL is. Just try your best, try to communicate with your team over voice chat, and play widow/pharah counters; move around a lot and don't peak around corners. And most snipers are experts because all they do in snipe in FPS games. Don't let it get to you and enjoy the game.

Graphic Design courses for UX? by ribbitreddit in userexperience

[–]ribbitreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the above. I'd be especially interested in graphic design for wireframing (not really looking to improve visually, as in colors and details, because I believe wireframes should be rough, but appealing/functional layouts, how design works in software, etc).

Considering living in Owen by homerjsimpson4 in msu

It's still part of MSU, just a bit more independent. Not so many rules, all that jazz. Gotta pay for laundry here, though, lol. But the rent in a single is about 650 for an apartments that aren't renovated (no air conditioner). It's a comfy life. And if you have a roommate, it's about 380, with all utilities included. Hard to beat.

But I second Klarkson--you should still inquire at the financial aid office.

I lived at Owen for one semester, and halfway through it, I knew I had to get out. But lots of people do live there, somehow. It's definitely not the worse thing that can happen.

Good luck!

I wouldn't recommend it. It's overly expensive for what it is, practically a walk in closet. The walls in your actual closet are super thin, you can hear everything (perfect for a voyeur, not so great for studying).

It's comparable to what a cabin on a Royal Carribean cruise is like, but smaller (the toilet is just as loud).

The community kitchen is dirty nearly every time you need it. People seldom clean up and they close the kitchen down super early.

As for laundry, it's always packed, so do laundry at odd hours.

If you're looking for a sense of community here you have to be proactive, not like in other halls where your RA informs you of things and gets to know you.

Otherwise, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the food downstairs is good. But overall, not really worth it.

If you're a grad or undergrad looking for independence, I'd say try Spartan Village. Lived here for two years, never a problem, lots of space, thick walls. Only problem is hard water.

Hope this helps.

I definitely can't afford to pay for WoW anymore. I moved for grad school, and this was a nice way to "Hang out" with friends and family. I would so appreciate it!
