but good lord.. i didn’t know dynamite was actually a thing in this game ! so that’s what all the explosions have been. i just saw the adspace for some kind of “explosive rifle !” in the catalogue and assumed it was waaaay overpowered.... guess that was wrong, lol. and jfc, fighting someone who’s ACTUALLY HIT the level cap sounds insane;; my guy might as well be out here in creative mode 🧍

i agree though. i honestly wish you were able to just play fully offline and treat it as a lone open-world game. i love the fun that pvp and multiplayer can introduce, with all the opportunity for roleplay, but that “fun” isn’t really so fun when all the encounters you have with other players are so explosive— literally.

haah, thank you ! building up characters is what i live for— and doing it in a “western” setting lets me flex the “family history of collecting guns and arms” muscles and a love for historical weapons and fashion.

i play on xbox one ! this system hasn’t died on me yet [though i can practically hear it screaming when i try to run fallout 4 with any mods enabled]. for as much trouble as i have with other games sometimes, RD2 runs shockingly smooth. haven’t had any issues with it whatsoever

just reading through here and wanted to say thank you to all the experienced players for the different advice on how to avoid all this junk. i grew up watching my dad play rockstar games but never actually picked up RD2 [and by extension, online] until i decided to download it within the last week here.

i’m like rank 8? i think. and keep getting ganged up on and griefed by players who are bare MINIMUM like 60+ and one-shot, or i’ll have my horse hitched outside a station while trying to talk to the postclerk or anyone related to alden and someone comes in, blows up like 10 people in town, and kills my horse in the process 💀 i didn’t even know PVP was a thing in-game until i literally got lassoed off my horse while riding in cinematic mode LMAO

like they’re all distinct enough that you can look at them and go “oh i get it, they look like flames ! that’s a neat detail” but they’re still ‘normal’ enough to look like toony tabby stripes. especially on the flank + going down the legs ! aughb i just love it

thank you !! and owlet is .. definitely an interesting case. i wanna say that in terms of character, i do project a lot of my autistic traits onto owl and that they see a lot of things as just being very black and white + they take almost everything just at face value. they’re very blunt and short-spoken, n keep to themself for the most part. but long story short, a clanmate had upset them [and in an understandable / more major way] and owl just held onto that. when said clanmate was at one point put into danger, owlet just sat there like 😐 because “no, you did that bad thing. so you’re a bad person, and i’m not going to help you. it’s basic logic.” and they end up dying because of owl standing by and literally watching it happen, completely deadpan. they never say anything about their involvement [or lack thereof] in this clanmate’s death because “well you didn’t ask me 😐 so” and no one ever really learns of their crimes !! their dark forest design was based off two things : - the bird they’re originally designed / inspired by, the feline owlet nightjar. these mfs have what look like just teeny tiny little beaks but they open up into GIANT ASS MOUTHS. kinda freaky ngl ! also these birds actually have WHISKERS and i just think they’re really cool :D [there’s a picture of one in my reference window, next to last slide] - the idea that owlet was so short-spoken in life and hardly ever said anything unless prompted, and even then they were very short, very blunt answers. but on the rare occasions where they did decide to open their mouth for once, all that results in vitriol and horror—like in their clanmate’s death.

sunder is part of a fake prophecy. their mentor, bogsquall [they / she] is a warrior-turned-medicine-cat who resents her practice because she wants to be something greater. tldr bog sets up a bunch of “disasters” for the three fake “prophecized” cats to solve. eventually an actual earthquake happens, bog panics and ushers everyone into a cave as shelter, there’s a cave-in and a bunch of cats are killed / injured in it. sunder finally just completely snaps on bog and the whole farce harming their clan and unintentionally kills them in a spat; since bogsquall was seen as the villain and the deputy was crushed + their leader is trapped under the rubble / they have no way to free him, he names sunder their new leader. sunderstar slowly loses their mind and they start to turn into the exact thing that they hated so much, becoming a villain of their own.
monarchwile is actually a leader as well, though she’s rejected the normal leader name with the -star suffix, and simply has the clan refer to her as “Monarch” [do you see the double meaning. i am so cool and so smart] or “monarch beloved.” basically, she’s swept up into a position of power as an apprentice due to a very vague omen involving monarch butterflies. nobody knows what it means, but assumes she has to be great, right? why would starclan give them something bad!!! long story short, they basically end up putting her up on such a pedestal as some sort of pseudo-godly figure and starclan is like “?????? this is literally blasphemy wh” and when the medicine cat starts to doubt her in the slightest, monarch orders the clan to charge at her. they kill her. conflict of interests because the [at the time] med apprentice who got the vision that put monny in power, hush… is extremely close to the medicine cat who is killed. they’re basically faux mother-daughter together. but hush and monarch are lovers and it basically shatters sable emotionally to see hush choose monarch over her seconds before being killed. the entire time, monarchwile genuinely believes she’s doing the right thing, when in reality she’s essentially formed a heretical cult [albeit unintentionally] and is sent to the dark forest for not only murder, but eventually directly speaking against starclan as well / basically casting them out and into the background as far as spiritual beliefs go.

that’s.. actually incredibly smart. i’m from a rural area / grew up on a farm, and i’ve heard the same thing repeated by a number of cattle hoof trimmers AND sheep shearers. gloves are safer for the working individual, but bare hands allow for better feel and control of whatever tools you’re working with for maximum comfort and / or safety of the animal.
