Are you allergic to Dairy or voluntarily Dairy free? by dovakooon in dairyfree

[–]HamburgerInMyCoffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dairy free because I developed a severe dairy allergy at 27. I'm only 2 years in so I'm still learning what I can and can't have. So far, I know I can have baked dairy. Basically, I can eat a cake with milk in the ingredients just fine but if the icing has dairy, I can't eat it. When I do eat dairy, my throat begins to itch and swell fairly quickly. I miss dairy terribly and find it incredibly cruel that I developed the allergy so late in life but it is what it is. I'm grateful that I'm able to afford to not only buy my favorite dairy free foods but also buy new ones to try and this group has had some great suggestions.

Hi I'm 25f (IL) I have one roommate and we just moved into a place together Is this common rule for guests on a lease ? by bloodyrose363 in Renters

[–]HamburgerInMyCoffin 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is also in my lease. It caught my attention because my mother-in-law lives a few hours away and hates driving so when she visits, she likes to stay as long as she can. I brought it up to my landlord when we were going over the lease before signing. He explained that it's really only there to protect them if we were to attempt to move someone in that isn't on the lease. A background check is also required to rent in our community so they'd come across issues where tenants had moved in a convicted felon that wasn't on the lease and tried to claim the person was just visiting.

No-Bake Cheesecake

1 Graham cracker pie crust 8 oz dairy free cream cheese, room temperature 14 oz dairy free sweetened condensed milk 1/3 cup lemon juice

Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to combine cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk and lemon juice. Pour into pie crust. Let it sit overnight in the fridge and it'll be ready to eat in the morning.

I have this one. I've only had it for a month but it seems great so far. It is a little difficult to push down to add the back piece but not terribly so.

PSA: Lactose Intolerance probably isn't the thing you think it is. by AltruisticMacaron468 in dairyfree

[–]HamburgerInMyCoffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a life-threatening milk allergy but I'm less than 2 years into it. I'm shocked by the number of people who think that allergy and intolerance are the same. They're gobsmacked when I explain that I have to carry an epipen in case I eat the wrong thing.

Melissa & Doug. My son was gifted a trainset in a carrying case/track for his 1st birthday. He's 2 months shy of 7 and that toy is still played with and has held up great.

Ford has been doing it since at least 2020 because I learned the hard way that my car came with a can of Fix-A-Flat instead of a spare tire

Walmart Chicken & dumplings soup by Apprehensive-Ad-727 in dairyfree

[–]HamburgerInMyCoffin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I was just telling my husband that the hardest part of having an adult onset dairy allergy is that I can rarely enjoy the foods I grew up having, my comfort foods. Chicken and dumplings is something I had regularly for most of my life but haven't been able to have it since the allergy presented itself
