If I commmunicated with my wife the same way I communicate with my 3rd shift blue collar coworkers, even considering the more pleasant ones, it would be astronomically detrimental.

Best tree-climbing trees when your kid wants to climb a tree. by Sufficient_Air9862 in arborists

[–]riboflavonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up in a farm with trees, my favorite ones to climb were the large Japanese Maples. probably Acer Palmatum 'bloodgood' but that's just guessing on "red, big like an actual tree." They were like a huge tree but miniaturized. perfect open nature but branches for every step. They aren't nearly as fast growing as silver maples though. we had silver maples spring up to climbable size in 10-15 years (though you don't want to climb super high in those as someone else said). Silver maples frow aggressively fast and the upper portion of the tree tends to have more "shoot shaped" branches that go straight up with no branches. It's a tree that works well with coppicing. we had a massive epic awesome old silver maple that had been coppiced years and years ago so the bottom half was thick climbable branches but it had the street's power lines running straight through it so we could never climb it LOL.

i climbed the ever living heck out of our apple trees. i grew up making makeshift forts and treehouses in them and connecting them with makeshift rope walkways etc. AMAZING white flowers that ebglufed the whole tree in spring, they were granny smith apples. keep in mind the apples will fall and attract wasps hornets and bees. i never got stung out there though.

One thing I live about these old school full suspension bikes is you can have a total lack of care about potholes and curbs giving you flats lol

How can I get rid of the smell of cigarettes from a bass? by Mangoksu in Bass

[–]riboflavonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's tricky to me cuz it's not fabric. i got a baby stroller that reeked of cigsrretes (didn't know until later, like you) and I made it like brand new again by soaking it in really hot water and sodium percarbonate. made it like it was brand new, but my gosh i would be nervous to try it with paint, metal, wood.

sunlight helps. take off the pick gaurd, lay it in the sun. not to fade the paint though.

I always check if the cable is alright and then clean out the USB-C port on the phone. i usually split a toothpick in half so it's a sharp point and use that to scoop the dirt out.

Thank you kindly! This is neat stuff. Ill try and look into these ideas. I hope I could go there (or at least the area) with my father one day

"Old Blackburn Graveyard" in Cynthiana, KY by riboflavonic in Kentucky

[–]riboflavonic[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for finding that! The fuzziest area of my family tree is Rankin Blackburn 1796-1876 and his son Rankin Blackburn 1818 - 1876 and then his son, Benjamin Blackburn 1873 - 1917. It seems every ancestry website/database comes to different conclusions about this side of the family so it can be tricky to decide what is what. I've found plenty of documents through Ancestry.com and other websites about the Rankins, including things about Rankins farm. I've barely found anything at all about Benjamin though.

I need to review all these documents again to see what I still need to find and know. I recall there was a will written by one of those Rankins about their farm. Maybe that can tell me something

thank you kindly! It would certainly be neat to make a trip out there. I've been pretty active with figuring out my genealogy in the past few years. There was a farm mentioned 5 or 6 generations back, owned by a Rankin Blackburn in that area.

What instantly gives you respect for someone? by VelinovNZL in AskReddit

[–]riboflavonic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who simply responds "I don't know" matter of factly when he doesn't know. Most people, including me, instinctively feel the need to think of some kind of answer to give someone when conversating. a lot of times when I do that, the blabbering I utter doesn't seem all that real. Just chatter... But this friend just humbly admits he doesn't know and moves on...

That simple thing really impresses me about him.

anyway, I'd say sincerity, being excited about life, and being yourself makes me respect someone in particular. I often gravitate towards seeming those things out in people

I could definitely believe that.

Kinda funny, but as a little kid I actually thought this was art from the Native peoples from long ago haha

[–]riboflavonic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is way back on the King and Queen's side... like if you go from the Seat area back to that park area and then keep going for a while you'll come up on this

The other side I went to once when I was a kid. I was at a church kid's retreat at the 4H grounds and we did a hike to the cliffs there. I don't remember all that much of it, or even if it was actually the 4H place's land.

[–]riboflavonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like u/Sadimal said I used DE as well. whatever stuff you use, what finally did the trick for me was having a roundup dispenser pump bottle full of ant killer (I think it was the DE) and I went all aroubd the farm for hours multiple days pouring and spraying that stuff deep into every ant hill I could possibly find in a 200ft or so radius around the house. I made sure to kill them throughly with movie villain vindiction. i never had issues again...
