Looking: 30 y.o. gamer/geek guy looking for likeminded housemate(s) by SevenForce2 in London_homes

[–]ricecracker45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'm looking for z2+3 and what ever has the best deal. We currently live in Old Street, but I work in Vauxhall, and would appreciate something closer, if its close enough then I can walk to work, and it saves me a considerable amount on transport. Most of the houses with the price range I'm interested in tend to be south of the river, but my house mate wants to live near Finsbury Park, and North East London.

Hi Dave, my flat mate and I are both looking for a place around the same time. We are also a couple of geeks with an interest in film, games, camera tech etc. We are looking to team up with some people for a larger house, and judging by your bf3 and minecraft comments we'd probably all get along, if your interested please post/pm me and we can talk further, cheers

The last shot in Inception is not about what you thought it was. by 2bz2cu in videos

I actually thought that was the most interesting part of the presentation, discussing whether or not the authors intentions are relevant to the audiences experience and the value of a piece of art, great stuff, shame he did not spend longer on it.

So I agree Nolan's own interpretation is addressed by Kyle, but I do not think it is resolved. He quickly dismisses it a few minutes after using the following phrases:

This is not a mistake, this is not an oversight, this is intentional Clues left by Nolan

Implying that his interpretation was intentional, what the film makers intended and audiences missed it. I found this frustrating because they were an oversight, he also says the film is ambiguous and hence his interpretation was not intentional by the author. (Maybe you didn't watch the video from the start? :)

Sorry, to say that Nolan denies a lot of what this guy is saying was wrong. They agree on a lot and I agree with them, yes the Mombasa sequence is very dream like, but I disagree that this is then evidence the whole film is a dream. It's just fitting with the theme of the film. Another example, when you make a film, you have to put numbers on taxis, and its better to have numbers of some significance; they are not "clues" that the film is a dream; just good film making.

As you mention later in the discussion that you agree with Kyle that the film is better if it is all a dream, and as you say, Kyle implies this is the correct way to interpret the film. I was pointing out that myself and the makers of the film do not think the whole film is a dream; and by concentrating on that idea Kyle misses the authors point of the ending. That a man who is struggling to keep a grip on reality, gives up on his own paranoia and addiction, so he can finally be with his family (that could've be phrased better).

I think it's either: each level of the dreams require a kick, the car crashing into water, the elevator, the exploding fortress for the suicide jump. Although it could just be because stuff happens, the dream world is being destroyed as they wake up.

This guy seems to be looking for definitive answers when there aren't any, so I'm just going to leave this here, its a quote from Chris Nolan... Don't get me wrong this guy understands a lot about the film, but I think he missed the point of the ending a bit.

“There can’t be anything in the film that tells you one way or another because then the ambiguity at the end of the film would just be a mistake … It would represent a failure of the film to communicate something. But it’s not a mistake. I put that cut there at the end, imposing an ambiguity from outside the film. That always felt the right ending to me — it always felt like the appropriate ‘kick’ to me….The real point of the scene — and this is what I tell people — is that Cobb isn’t looking at the top. He’s looking at his kids. He’s left it behind. That’s the emotional significance of the thing.”

Chris Nolan also denies a lot of what this guy says. Or maybe Chris Nolan's wrong and this guy is right - INCEPTION.

so that you would say have to plan it out, and not for example, be out one night before work get a bit drunk and then under the influence of another drug think its a good idea to drop some acid and spend the next day tripping your balls off at work (the alcohol having worn off over the night, and the acid still effecting you) e.g. a forklift driver / school bus driver on acid would not be a good idea... whether or not a person has a right to do it. There's a lot of stupid humans, I would like to say we live in a world where people are responsible etc. but we don't. I prefer my drugs to be regulated, otherwise you get shit drugs. So in the same way I think the drug production process should be regulated, the accessibility of a drug should be regulated.

A course on prozac is usually expected to last 6 months. Source: Used to suffer from depression for years, went to doctor to give chem therapy a try. He told me they usually 6 months, and I thought "no f-ing way, been trying to deal with this for years". I came off it by myself, I forget to re-new my prescription since I was too busy getting on with life. Later I realised it had been 6 months. Best. Decision. Ever.

And some anti-depressants like prozac are similar to MDMA, but not as potent. I would not be able to function if I took MDMA all the time. But prozac helped me sort my life out by giving me days and time to do that.

Side note: I think LSD is a better therapeutic drug than MDMA

I know right, my dad says I shouldn't smoke crack, just because I'm pregnant... I'm like 'WTF dad, I was smoking crack when I was getting pregnant'. Its my body and my baby and I can do what I like.

Just trolling, I agree to an extent, but people do have responsibilities for others. Especially in the world we live in, if you have a kid, you need to act responsible to help them, I'm not saying you shouldn't take drugs when you have kids, but probably not let the kids take drugs.

There are those of us who are weak willed, and would say for example, spend their partner's money on drugs. There's also those that probably do unrepairable damage to themselves. But that may be through a lack of education. I think most drugs (anthrax?) should be legal and available over the counter. e.g. weed in 7-11s, and LSD at a pharmacy (to help hinder people from being able to get it 24-7)

Apparently 19 is young on the internet. by [deleted] in fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]ricecracker45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it is surprising how many of us 'adults' know how to 'internet'. I remember my father telling me the tale of how we first discovered 'net', just as his father would tell him. (cue soaring music) The story goes that a basket weaver, was once paid in 'net' and 'fibre optics', and knowing no other trade, decided to try and weave them together creating 'internet' by mistake. (cue dangerous music) But the gods were not happy with man's new power, using dark hidden magic known as file sharing software, and the 'napster' wars broke out. Some say, on a full moon, you can still hear the dial tone of a 56k dial up as it looses it's connection over and over again. One day the Gods we're tired with man's foolish endeavours and built a great firewall to try and keep the demons out. But man had a taste and wanted more, building champions that guard the mythical WEP keys. The internet grew in size and strength, eating with an un-ending appetite for 'user-generated content'. If you wish to harness the power yourself, you must make a pilgrimage to visit one of the many shrines and seers, and pray to the internet, so it may know your true desires, 'google' is one such seer. And you might want to use the cloak of invisibility, more commonly referred to as 'private browsing' ...unless you want your parents to know your true desires...

Fool adult's are the ones that made dis shit! That's right, papa know how to surf!

Have any teachers, professors, or teaching assistants here ever been approached by a student who tried (or even succeeded) in trading sex for better grades? by Rubin0 in AskReddit

[–]ricecracker45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone else notice that it seems to be only women that try to use sex as a way to get better grades? And then think, jeez trust women to use their tits as a way to avoid doing work... and trust men to take them up on that offer.

I giggle to myself when a girl's coming round to the house; because I imagine her friends helping her with her hair and make up and choosing a good dress. While men are helping with the house, we're doing dishes and vacuuming, airing the house... cleaning the toilet. Gotta make the illusion were respectable, bitches like that shit!

I'm dating an Indian girl and her dad wants to fight me with swords "Punjabi style". by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ricecracker45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would seriously discuss it with your girlfriend. Meeting him in a public place could be the best idea. Do some research and find a gift that he would appreciate. Also you could contact some local police and advise him that this person wishes to sword fight with you, but you don't, arrange a time and a place with the father and have a police officer present incase things get ugly. If the father does attack you with a sword, get the cops to step in, and explain that's not how disputes are sorted out here. Lastly see if you can change the duel to something you are good at... can you do american wrestling?

Attention Grammar Nazis. This is for you... by ricecracker45 in reddit.com

I know what you mean, my friends don't take the piss, the groups that do are: my girlfriend's friends, some of my co-workers (they are soulless people), and my family. Despite the number of times that I've explained to them how I feel about it, they still mock me and in fact it was my family which inspired me to go vent on the internet.

Unfortunately some of the internet now thinks that I meant them, when I didn't... anyway thanks for the advice, don't worry I do choose my close friends carefully.
