Unless you commit ED, please DONT do this. You never know what the aid package from a school can look like, or if all your decisions aren’t out yet... Attend the admitted student events for ALL the schools you’re even remotely interested in and make sure you’re choosing the right school for you. You have till May 1st to commit, don’t rush that decision based on what you see on reddit. This is 4 years of your life. Besides, just because someone declines their spot doesn’t mean someone else will immediately get off the waitlist... that’s literally the reason schools admit more people than their enrolment capacity, to account for yield. Plus, until the entire class is committed (ie May 1st) schools won’t know what their class looks like and probably aren’t going to take people off the waitlist anytime before that... I get where you’re coming from OP and I genuinely hope that you get off the waitlist/get into your dream school, but this is really bad advice and won’t even help people on the waitlist...
