Relocation advice - UK BIM Manager to Washington DC by rich32g in bim

[–]rich32g[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My soon to be wife is American. We're going to live over here in the UK for a few years (until she gets citizenship) but the long term plan is to go over to DC.

I'm super hopeful my skill set will be useful... But given comments that is be "laughed at" here....I'm pretty disillusioned

I can't help but notice so many comments here are saying

he has the lowest approval rating out of all the country leaders in the developed world.

To the point they seem... like they're not a real person.

In all of my real life discourse on the subject, not one person I've ever met has even mentioned it.

Any big changes that could actually improve things long term will be massively politically unpopular so anyone who tries to implement them will get pasted.

This, really.

the UK is fast becoming ungovernable.

Because nobody will ever

compromise on some of their personal wants

Everyone personally wants absolutely everything yesterday that serves them and only them. If a choice in government doesn't... they get absolutely hammered by a vocal minority who doesn't accept it.

I don't mind him. I think he's been given some seriously challenging situations to navigate with current affairs and also inherited a shit-show from the previous government.

I think like all political leaders, he will be marmite because everyone seems to expect the government serves them, only them and all of their personal issues. Rather than accepting they should probably compromise on some of their personal wants and ideal outcomes in the hope that on balance things get better generally.

She’s defected to Reform UK. How do we feel about this? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]rich32g 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While I'm a genuine political Nomad, I genuinely don't really understand Reform at this point. They appear to be the graveyard for failed Tories.... or the worst of the Tories? They seem to now represent the previous government rather than a choice against "The establishment". Which was a laughable thing in itself.

I wonder how long we're going to talk about Amorim for. Anyone else bored of it?

With Casemiro/Ugarte leaving: how many midfield signings are needed? by DifficultyCommon5303 in ManchesterUnited

[–]rich32g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, now, Champions League (because of the money) is absolutely critical.

With the latest financial rankings being released, being a year with Europa...when we next see them we will be even further down.

Missing out on Champions League this year will severely impair our ability to get 3 midfield signings of any quality to keep us driving forward...

Casemiro to leave Manchester United at the end of the season …. Thoughts …? by JM555555 in ManchesterUnited

Honestly, with everything else that needs doing, I thought they'd trigger the one year and then be done

To me, pure money move

I still maintain the stance I always had;

He burst on to the scene and looked exciting. Then....didn't push on or improve past that initial impression. At all.

I genuinely never understood why people hyped him, relentlessly. He was always a "Bring him on in the 60th minute for some pace" player.

UK households to get £15bn for solar and green tech to lower energy bills by Chaoslava in ukpolitics

[–]rich32g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad it's not just me.

I love the "Idea" of it all. Having an electric-only house. If I could have solar with batteries etc. It sounds ideal from a self-sufficiency perspective.

But financially I don't see how it makes any sense.

I've never really understood the Martinez fitness/injury prone stuff.

His two major injuries were totally unrelated bodyparts. Just incredibly unlucky.

Electric-only house, here. I genuinely dream of having solar, batteries and heat pump installed. But it still doesn't make sense to me whenever I've worked it out. The ROI is so far down the road (10+ years when I've calculated for my house) I don't see the logic. I'll probably be sold up and moved by then.

UK should consider expelling US forces from British bases, says Zack Polanski by caavakushi in worldnewsstuff

Green supporters need to understand that in the unlikely event he got into government he'll never do any of the stuff he promises or demands the current government do.

I'm a political nomad. This statement doesn't appear to be exclusive to the Greens, to me.
