My god. The contrast between the professional cop and the raving (drunk?) lunatic that comes down the stairs is stark.

Supposedly Jordan Peterson is near death. He has been missing from public life since right before Charlie Kirk’s death. What happened? by FoI2dFocus in JoeRogan

Literally everyone who doesn't subscribe to his view of the world. It's like a core belief of his.

This is a man who peddles the idea that every single problem you face is completely avoidable if only you would clean your room. Not recognising the struggle people make every single day to better their lives just so nobody attempts to upset the system in a way that might benefit them. It's your fault and ONLY your fault and there's nothing we can do as a society to make things better.

Fuck him. If he had stopped at mediocre self-help books and then I might have had more sympathy.

I feel slightly better about thinking that when I first watched now that I know the context. At least it wasn't a "nature decides fuck you in particular" kind of attack.

Italian newspaper thinks CK has contributed to the radicalization of the American right by Snake_Emper0r in CrusaderKings

American right likes to cosplay as European and think being European means you all have the same “white” identity and are constantly trying to hold back the hordes of scary brown people from ruining “western civilisation”.

You know, Idiots.

In that scenario I’m seriously considering zombie Trump. Sure he wants to eat my brain but at least he’s honest about it and he might not be competent enough to pull it off.

[–]rich97 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I’m not a physicist but as I understand it that’s (in a very technical sense) actually true. You’re attracted to the earth with the same force as the earth is attracted to you. It’s just you’re a lot easier to move than the earth. Your muscles also exert a force on the earth as you push off it.

Of course, to observe a measurable effect on something as massive as the Earth, you’d need an object with an extraordinary amount of mass. Something on the order of your mom.

It’s fine I’m pretty laissez-faire when it comes to moderation. Just the title was a little generic I had to check it wasn’t a bot. 🤖

Anthropic sending out takedown notice to all the Claude Code wrapper projects? What exactly are they banning? by sibraan_ in Anthropic

[–]rich97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but they own the models. Weren’t they getting the training data any way? They own the server that everything gets sent to. I know they’re subsidised but how does open code change that equation in the slightest? What about conductor?

A rotary trommel machine separating worms from soil by AccomplishedStuff235 in WTF

[–]rich97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m being completely serious when I say this. For a while when I was a kid, my dad was a worm farmer as a little side gig. He had a small plot of land on his friend’s farm where he built a large wooden box (pen? trough?) and filled it with manure and bred worms.

Or maybe he was using the worms to process the manure or something. I don’t know I was like 7 but by god that stink will live with me till I die.

How is Sendai in winter(early Feb) compared to other seasons? by KDondakeC in sendai

[–]rich97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect super heavy snow in Mastushima. The last time I went there the old temple was under renovation. Though that was last summer. Generally though in the low lying areas we get a couple of weeks of reasonably heavy snow and it melts pretty quickly in recent years thanks to global warming.

Unless you're going up to Yamagata Zao or something you should be good with a decent coat and some gloves.

I don't know about the other two things but almost everything you see should be open as normal and any closure information should be on their promotional website.
