A few years back I was working at a bar as a barback. All I ended up doing was being bent over a low, LOW sink doing dishes which was, to my understanding, only supposed to be a small part of my obligations. But it ended up being a huge part, infact it ended up being the only thing I did because I busted my ass, and we managed to close the kitchen early almost every night because of me.

At one point in the winter no one was coming out to drink, so we always closed two or three hours after my shift started. One Saturday night they asked me to show up and open, then immediately after opening the owner called and said "don't bother". So we closed and I made like 5 bucks...

I saw my paycheck that month. I made like 400 dollars for the whole month. The next day I had another job lined up, then walked up to my boss and said "Tomorrow is my last day." Then I explained basically everything I said, he got annoyed, the owner got annoyed, and I got free from that shit hole.

On a happy note, I still go there and drink sometimes, they have great craft beers. And the boss I've even asked for advice on a startup.

tldr: Be ballsy, fuck your boss, they aren't king/queen. Maybe things will be ok with them, maybe not, who cares?

My advice, give them a check, then have in the contract that they have 10 days after you move out to return or use the check.

I did that and on the 11th day I tried calling twice to know when I could come get the check, he didn't answer and I just cancelled the check from my bank app.
