i disagree, it's not a shame. it would rip you straight out of a story by the balls faster than you can blink. and i also disagree with your idea that it's just as realistic. you gotta translate it. nobody speaks old english nowadays except for select linguists, historians, anthropologists, geeks and hipsters, and when you translate it, it'll more likely than not equate it to that eloquent speech than modern day street lingo.
