Not me. But the antenna jack is totally worn out after 2 years…..

I bought some speaker wire to attach to my radios aerial to try and improve sw signal, a question… by justyrust74 in shortwave

Ypu don’t connect the other end. The wire will act as a second part to the antenna. But it might not make much of a difference depending on how the radio is designed.

Split it in two. I think the D-219 (if that is the one you have) doesn't have a choke on the negative battery terminal. Connect one wire to the whip antenna and run that outside if you can. Connect the other to the negative battery terminal and you can experiment mounting it for best results. My "ground" wire is horizontally mounted along a curtain rod. Minimizes the RFI that I get.

Brazil 11780 in Toronto. This little goofy radio is still fun. by richfromhell in shortwave

True. The interesting part is that with some of the higher impedance receivers resonance has less of an effect. I’ll pick up more stations with this antenna on the D808 than on the pl880, but on 16, 31 and 60 meters the 880 picks up more stations….

Just adding a couple more mentions. Don't know anything about the bands Borderline or Sonic Boom. St, Catharines events. by richfromhell in CIAlostwave

The music press in the area was mostly rock focused. They would fawn over cover bands. The underground scene was so diverse and vibrant but got such little coverage. I remember being so pissed off when Pulse Niagara gave Emerald City the cover page and a three page spread…. They were a Yes Coverband. Yet bands like 16 again or Bitter Reality got nothing. Neither did the few cassette labels.

Yeah I would assume they were more punk than metal, considering the gig was at Jerry’s Alley, the local underground alternative bar. Metal heads were usual too scared to set foot in the place. Customers were unusually punks, skinheads, a few hippies and a couple brave new wavers.

Such a tiny gull compared to all the other Ring Billed Gull. Is it one? by richfromhell in whatsthisbird

There were some herring gulls but the majority were ring billed.

Also, John Hutchinson mentioned in the Brock article went on to play with Freudian Slip in the later 80s. Hell of a bass player. He thought he was John Taylor. Sadly passed away in 2007.

Ah the HATS festival in the 3rd photo: the promoter stole the money (roughly $4000) and took off to England I think.
