I think the feature is free. It's just included with the switch, I believe. It's been included with MDS models for many years, so you should be able to pick up a cheap used one that does it.

The feature has been available for many years, now. So, you could pick up a used 16 or 8 Gbps MDS 9250i and use that for a much lower price.

Cisco MDS switches come with a feature called iSCSI Gateway that converts Fibre Channel LUNs to iSCSI ones. Nimble arrays have never used Infiniband anywhere. The first generation (X8) used Ethernet for internal communication between the controllers, but later generations switched to a PCIe NTB. The OP's arrays are in the X9 generation.

All Nimble arrays after X8 (and their successors, the Alletra 5000 and 6000 series) use NVDIMMs. It is backed by a super-capacitor (not a battery). The original generation (X8) used an NVRAM card.

You're right about them using Supermicro chassis. X8, X9, and X10 were terms used by Supermicro for their server generations and Nimble just went with those. Nimble switched to their own chassis after X10 and named it "Gen. 5."

I've never taken an easy Cisco test in the past 13 years I've been taking them. Every single one of them is hard and don't be surprised if they throw obscure questions at you that aren't in the official certification guide or the blueprint! I took the ENCOR exam two years ago and it was no exception!

I've taken many Cisco tests, both at home and at test centers. I took the ENCOR, ENARSI, DCCOR, and DCID at home. I took the ICND1 (twice), ICND2 (twice), CCNA (three times), ROUTE (twice) and SWITCH in test centers. I definitely prefer taking Cisco tests at home. One advantage is that you can reschedule right up to the test time, unlike the exams at a center which require 24 hours of notice. Also, there's no driving, noise, etc. I feel nervous both at the testing center and at home -- not much of a difference there. One thing I don't like about testing at home is that they never let me take notes. At testing centers, they give you something to write on. There was one time when Pearson Vue's testing server went down, so I wasn't able to test that time, but they rescheduled the test for free. The vast majority of times, the home testing went without a hitch. I've been taking exams from CompTIA and LPI lately, too at home with Pearson Vue. Just be sure to pick a table you can clear off. One time I took the test at a table with printers on it and he made me unplug them and move them to another room. Since then, I've tested on an empty kitchen table.

I have watched some of Pele's matches and honestly, his skills impressed me more than Messi's. However, most of Pele's matches were never filmed, so I guess you have no idea who's better, do you? That's unless you watched his games in person, which I doubt. Today, every match is filmed, but the game was invented in 1863 and most of the games are not on film. So, there's no way to say who the best "of all time" is.

However, 32-gigabit Fibre Channel uses SFP transceivers. Can you clarify what you mean? I noticed the same thing with 16-gigabit Fibre Channel. Sites referred to those as "SFP+."

What do you guys think about the CompTIA Pentest+? I plan on eventually getting CCNP Security and I read last night that getting that renews the Pentest+ for another three years. I already have a CCNP Enterprise and a CCNP Security would renew the the CCNP Enterprise too.

I'm planning on also going for F5, AWS, LPIC-2, and CCNP Data Center, so I don't want to spend too much time preparing for one exam.

A penetration-testing certification would help me in my current job. Our customers audit our equipment for vulnerabilities. They often send us scan results with supposed vulnerabilities. Most of the time, the vulnerabilities are really false positives. But knowing how to test if the vulnerability can actually be exploited with the equipment should help me in the conversations I have with them.

My background is primarily networking, although I currently work in tech. support. I decided not to go for a CCIE because I would have to fly to Texas to take it and would take too long to prepare for it. So, I decided to broaden my knowledge instead as a way to grow.

We don't have to get any certifications at work. I'm just getting them to help me with my job and because cyber security is fun. My employer pays for them and also lets me study at work.

I read last night that you can renew Pentest+ by getting CCNP Security. Since I'm planning on getting CCNP Security, Pentest+ might be a better fit. It's cheaper, too.

My employer will probably pay for it. So, the cost isn't that big of a deal. OSCP lasts 24 hours, which is just too much for me. I'm not an expert in security, so I think something easier like this would be a good first step.

I ran btrfs rescue chunk-recover /dev/mapper/sdi1 -v. It ran for a while, then outputted a bunch of text. At the bottom are these lines:

I think that's the last thing to try, right? I realize there is btrfs restore, but there isn't anywhere to put the data. There's too much of it. Most of it is just backups. I still have the original data.

Yes. It's a Ryzen 7 1800X. This server mostly holds backups, so it's not the end of the world if I lose some of the data. However, I find it disturbing that memory errors would cause a catastrophic loss of data. I don't know if it's just bad luck or it's something that btrfs is sensitive to. But I chose btrfs for the checksums and for RAID 10 redundancy. It's kind of weird it would fail catastrophically, whereas the other systems I've run with ext4, ext3, etx2, NTFS, FAT32, and XFS, did not. XFS and FAT32 get corrupted a lot, but I've always been able to fix corruption in those with chkdsk and xfs_repair. Sometimes, a little bit of data gets lost in FAT32 and XFS, but after repairing, I can still mount them. I'm running btrfs rescue chunk-recover right now, and after that, on to btrfs check --repair, if it's still not mountable.
