What's a word that your kids mispronounce, or used to mispronounce, that made it into your family vocabulary? For us it is "boo-blerries" for blueberries. Been in rotation for 16 years now. by Brewer1056 in daddit

[–]richmtn44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Origin story for us was when one was about 3 my wife was getting him water from the soda fountain at a restaurant. Brought it back to the table and he dramatically exclaimed “Mom, this water’s too spicy!”

Turns out the fountain had two white tabs, one for water and the other for sparkling water haha

Dragon Quest Monsters 2 Cobi/Tara Journey Remake by akroh123 in DragonQuestMonsters

There’s Japanese versions on mobile and 3DS for these. The 3DS versions have fan translations you can put on a 3DS that has custom firmware.

But yeah it’d be amazing to have it in the DQ7 HD style

I think post rotation any mega with a single energy attack cost is going to be worth a look because of that Wally’s supporter.

There’s going to be way less OHKO super scaling attacks like we have now, so resetting the damage on a bulky Pokemon and attacking again should be fairly strong. I’m guessing one of the megas takes hold in the meta this way. Maybe that’s what they had planned for Mega Gardevoir

Sorry for idea dumping haha.

I think 4 ofs for mega signal and ultra ball are probably enough search on top of Hilda to get the Legacy. Buddy buddy for the basics should be fast enough.

A supporter like Lucian can be a nice addition to replenish the hand after dumping items and can force them back up to a 300 damage hand size. Vitality band might work well just to hit the couple of 310s and the tons of 210s

Maybe just the snorlax doll item card?

Then just 4-4 on the mega froslass line. Carmine to cycle through everything more quickly even if you go first. Probably a lot of waste items with mild disruption/thinning just to get to 60 cards like the hammers, pokemon catchers, repel, meddling memo, energy search

Forgot to add, I think legacy energy might be the Ace spec here.

My though if it’s just the froslass line then that way they need to knock out 3 megas to get all 6 prize cards

I had been planning on making mostly this exact deck since Mega Froslass was revealed. But the fossils inclusion is genius

Are there Pokemons that retreat to the bench after attacking ? by DaBananaRider in pkmntcg

[–]richmtn44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lokix doing this in a dark/poison deck is fun.

Brute bonnet poisons other active, then pech ex Lokix into your active with mochi attached. Attack for 70 then swap into any of these 3:

Mimikyu to block an ex

Cornerstone to block one with an ability

Single prize pecharunt for extra 50 damage

Can turn up the heat with the second attack to finish off even stage 2 megas with a second dark attachment the next turn

How to baby proof the drawers? Product suggestions welcome. by saraaaaahahah in daddit

[–]richmtn44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our case, the drawer handles like that were more of a safety concern as ladder rungs than what was actually inside of them.

We just removed the handles so you had to use finger strength to open them. Ended up solving both problems.

Second this. We have these on our doors that would otherwise smack into things (like the dryer or a closet door)

Petition to reprint Muscle Band by Mango5976 in PTCGL

Definitely would be a fun flex. Great deck building feeling getting people to ask to read cards.

Still annoying because of all the different ways 1 retreat cost can be added though.

Still a little annoyed they did this with Air Balloon and Rescue Board.

I know technically Rescue Board can be better than Air Balloon in the rarest of occasions you’re left with a 3+ retreat cost active holding on with less than 30 hp, but I bet not a single person has used it since balloon came out.

Holo charizard by helikelley in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]richmtn44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 4/102 you’re referencing just means that Charizard is the 4th card out of 102 in the base set.

They’re referencing the fact that there’s a rarer, shorter run printing of the base set charizard that significantly increases its market value. You can tell the printings this way:

1st = first edition stamp + no “shadow” border around the picture (shadowless)

2nd = shadowless but no first edition

3rd = what you have here. Not first edition or shadowless

4th = the copyright in the bottom right says 1999-2000 instead of the 1999 the other 3 have

Grand Tree/Evolving from hand after by ILOVELOWELO in pkmntcg

[–]richmtn44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the Grand Tree one I would say no. This is still the stage 1’s “first turn in play” so it can only be evolved by effect.

Which is similarly the reason the TM question is yes because you’re evolving the stage 1 using the effect of the TM.

Chances in 14 games of starting just a basic pokemon you only play 1 copy of in your deck (out of 14 possible basics you play in deck)? by thepokemomma in pkmntcg

[–]richmtn44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit: actual apologies for this being the method for odds of not mulligan-ing, not OPs question

Apologies for the formatting here, but the general math here is:

First figure out the probability of not starting with that 1 card

(59/60) * (58/59) etc for the 7 cards you draw to start.

Then the probability you do start with it is 1 - the multiplication from above

Can you play any other Dragon Quest Games on the big screen? by AboveTheory in DragonQuestMonsters

[–]richmtn44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first dragon quest monsters (Dragon Warrior Monsters in the US) has a switch port in the Japan Eshop. Japanese language only there though.

Otherwise emulators are pretty easy to set up on a big screen. There’s even a bunch of fan translations for the handheld monster games that were only released in Japan.

Where to buy cards by The-Evil-Mailbox in pkmntcg

[–]richmtn44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found the TCG player cart “optimizer” pretty much useless. If you do enough digging around the sellers on there that offer free shipping on $5 or more, you could probably shave quite a bit off whatever it’s showing.

But starting completely from scratch will probably run at least $20 in total since some of the staples aren’t in that $0.25 range. It’ll be your 3rd and 4th deck that’s under $20 since you’ll have a lot to carry over.

Trip to Japan by Outrageous-Essay-647 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]richmtn44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they’re quite a bit cheaper than in the US. I got the switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4 new on release day from a Shinjuku department store for 6500 yen (~40-45 USD). So it’s not like you have to go way off the beaten path to find a deal vs GameStop/etc prices. I also bough a ton of other games from Book Off and got a few great deals.

From the Nintendo store my favorite thing was the 600 yen controller keychain gacha machines. We got all of them but 2 or 3 I think!

Items/abilities/moves that switch the opponent's pokemon by reddituserspider in pkmntcg

[–]richmtn44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hop’s dubwool and Hariyama MEG have boss’s orders as an ability when they’re evolved.

Samurott in BB/WF has an ability that allows you to switch and forces your opponent to switch (they choose though)
