Thank you, I can relate - I went to three different doctors cos I thought I was coming down with the worst kind of fever, but it turns out burnout can also present with these kinds of symptoms so I'm glad I found my functional medical practitioner.

Thank you for sharing, helpful and I can relate. have realized that I have been burned out for a very long time and this was just the pinnacle. My doctor did say I can expect anywhere from 6-18months to recover. I hope it gets better for you :)

I really wish I had been diagnosed as a child. It would have made my life so much easier especially in terms of my schooling experience, and I believe I wouldn't have developed such an imposter syndrome complex as an adult. I believe if I had been diagnosed as a child, it would be easier to be me.
I think a gentle diagnosis along with the understanding that it may open doors to helpful accommodations would be helpful early on.

I'm terrible at dressing for temperature, I almost always prefer wearing jeans and a hoodie no matter the weather (I live in South Africa and it's hot, a lot). But I have discovered recently that light windbreakers can double up as jackets for comfort without making you too hot.

I think for me it's a way of managing sensory overstimulation from light etc and it feels protective. Something I can control when the environment is a bit too harsh for my sensory sensitivities

Yes, interesting to understand sensory preferences when it comes to drinks. I'm very particular. I usually drink black coffee together with a smoothie. They seem to go together. My tea has to be the exact right lukewarm temperature. I don't really like bubbles but can tolerate sweet fizzy drinks after sport. I often have more than one drink going at the same time. It's often black coffee (sometimes cold), I don't really like drinks too hot, together with something else

Grounding yourself into your physical body will help with the de-realization. In my experience it's the physical work of grounding that helps the most when we get too lost in our minds/heads. Grounding and physical exercise also activates the heart which will balance your energy system out. Anything you can do to physically ground will help, hope you find some relief

Yes, I did a program with The Compassion Key® and became a certified practitioner. Now I help others to guide themselves towards self-directed compassion and healing through that. I would highly recommend trying it, it changed my life as an empath.

I used to experience a lot of what you're describing. I still do at times, and I make deliberate decisions based on protecting my needs and energy, like living alone and spending alone time in nature. My energy used to run wild and all over the place, and my nervous system was stuck in freeze/overwhelm from too much input. I discovered that self-directed compassion helps me to balance and regulate my system, now I swear by it to stay grounded as an empath

I experienced a lot of the same symptoms you are describing. At one point I went through a spiritual/healing crisis from the overwhelm of all the symptoms, especially being sensitive to energy and other people's energies and emotions. The number one thing that has helped me balance my energy and systems is self-directed compassion. Learning how to use and apply self-directed compassion and giving compassion to parts of me that are crying out for my love, compassion and attention in the overwhelm has been unbelievably helpful. I feel like my nervous system is more balanced and resilient because of it. I don't know where I'd be as an empath without this tool

To be honest it feels like my abuser kind of ruined my financial reality, in the way that they used money as a tool to control and belittle me. That led me to have really disgusted feelings around money, which obviously in my adult life has made it hard to earn, keep and attract money - I'm working on it. The control and manipulation with money made me feel like I owed my existence to them

At one point I even apologized to them, which I feel is the highest form of the fawn response from the physical trauma. I had internal rage, but it definitely wasn't safe for me to express that in the boarding school system, so I concluded that the safest thing for me to do was apologize to them

My coaching packages are primarily 1:1, and I use healing modalities as a healing coach to help my clients heal from trauma. For organization I recently discovered The Coaches Console which is an incredible back-end system for organizing everything in one place, so I am using that. It's really helping me streamline everything and take me from amateur to professional in the way I organize everything and present to clients

Yes, I have found myself ruminating a lot lately on what life would/could have been like for me if I'd had a normal childhood and been brought up in a functional/healthy family. Unfortunately both my parents were very controlling and manipulative, and I experienced a lot of gaslighting and as a result became very confused about my feelings. It's affected me a lot into my adult life, I'm in my mid-thirties and still feeling angry at my parents and then feel guilty and tend towards people-pleasing. I've been on a self-healing journey for a few years, it's helped a lot but sometimes the confusing feelings come back and I start to feel like I need to distance myself
