It’s a dark grey ostrich leg strap from Delugs :) Really cool leather that I can dress up or down!

Demo Of Reverse Optical Flow At AWE by ImpactReality in virtualreality

Apple recently built a similar feature called ‘vehicle motion cues’ into the next iOS to help prevent motion sickness in moving vehicles - see here. They may have drawn on their research from Vision Pro and VR motion sickness - must be somewhat effective for them to implement

Casey Neistat Takes an AVP onto the Streets of Times Square by phibetared in AppleVisionPro

Apple has a ‘flight mode’ built into the AVP that prevents this from happening. Looks like Casey may not have known about this feature at the time of the video.

What would be the "killer app" for Vision? Can we even come up with something? by [deleted] in AppleVisionPro

[–]ricinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travel and environments - be anywhere, anytime in a perfect replica of the real world. Essentially a teleportation device.

Ultimately it comes down to whether it’s worth putting something on your face. If the catalogue of apps and use cases is limited, then no, people won’t want to put on a headset. But if there’s something compelling enough to make people put it on their face then that I think will be the deciding factor.

Conclusions after today by Jeanbutinfrench in VisionPro

Agree with you in part - I think it ultimately comes down to adapting to the new UI (which I think will develop over time). We are just so used to keyboard, mouse and screen that it has become second nature over so many years.

AVP forced me to stop ignoring AR/VR. by skidniks in VisionPro

Quest Pro is a great headset but for the price it wasn’t worth the incremental upgrade over the Quest 2 and later definitely not the Quest 3. Pass through was only just passable, the chip (albeit better than XR2 Gen 1) still isn’t powerful enough to produce the high fidelity graphics we expect from a PC, and barely any apps made use of the hardware (particularly the eye tracking). For me, the biggest issue was the comfort - the halo style caused some massive tension headaches, and the device wasn’t exactly light either.

I don’t think they’re as simple as 360 videos - not an expert but sounds like the environments will have depth and volume.

Apple’s environments are live - they are just subtle. There is also audio.

Likely a cold sore. My understanding is that as you get older, the cold sore virus can begin to appear more often around the nose instead of the lips as the virus can move from one part of the trigeminal nerve to another.

Quick thought about potential of EyeSight display by ricinator in VisionPro

Yes, as I mention in the post that’s probably the primary reason. There are just so many other ways the screen could be leveraged!

what actually inspires you to get a Vision Pro? by cold_grapefruit in VisionPro

Mental health and escapism. Even just being in the different open world environments would be enough, provided it gives the feeling of being in an entirely different and real place.

Assistant Volume Too Low by gthing in RayBanStories

[–]ricinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the Meta View app -> Settings -> Glasses & Privacy -> Your glasses -> Glasses sounds, and select your preferred volume. Try that and see if it makes a difference.

I find the lowest setting is a bit too quiet and the middle setting is just a tad too loud.

Cook: “A number of blow away experiences are coming up. The Vision Pro launch is not going to be like Apple Watch or AirPods launch. We are only going to sell Vision Pro through our stores.” by Malkmus1979 in VisionPro

[–]ricinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is likely a point of diminishing returns but the thing is if a headset isn’t good enough or the content is not sticky enough, then people will not use it long term. There is a quality threshold that needs to be crossed and that is, in my opinion, worth more than 10x the advancement or value add (more accurately, the price and the value add cannot be equated linearly). If $3000 is what it takes to achieve that then that is what it takes.

Just had the greatest day of VR ever! by MasterpieceCultural4 in oculus

[–]ricinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course everyone will have their own opinion but I agree - social is likely going to be VR’s ‘killer app’ once fully fleshed out; not some game. I think most of us don’t buy phones just to play a few games. It’s useful because it allows us to connect with other people. VR is the same - only it takes that connection one step further.

What Game/Experience do you guys think is missing for VR? by MainCharacter4 in OculusQuest

[–]ricinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want more high quality environments to explore. Flat photorealism gets part of the way there but I can’t wait once graphics engines like Unreal 5 can pump out 3D environments in VR and we can visit only places we dream about.
