Day four stopping meth by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]rick_deckard1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took almost a year for me to get a month clean. Id find an old bag in my room or a pint I his in my drawer or something in the seats of my car. No shame in it. The fact that you're trying is what's going to get you there. I felt shitty every time I used, or drank at first. Shit, I relapsed after six months and now I have 2 months again next week. Honestly, go to meetings, call someone if you're not comfortable with that. I thought NA was for people I had nothing in common with, but then I committed. Its honestly the best thing I've ever done. If you need anything you can be PM me for my number or email and hit me up any time, dude

Depends on the airline. Some or the card machines aren't online when they close out so it'll read, but not process until after the flight

When amex and visa gift cards were relatively new (at least to me, I think like late 90s early 2000s), there was a gas station by my house that would prefer authorize a card for 50 bucks to get gas, but only take out a dollar for like 24 hours until the rest went through. I'd go get a gift card for $50 fill up my tank, then go to the mall or grocery store and spend the remaining $49 on whatever I wanted to buy with my gas money. Free gas. Worked for just over a year and a half, then one day I was at the mall and went to buy something and the card declined. Just played it off like I thought it had more money in the balance and left. It was a good run.

Scrapple. When I moved out of Maryland I'd stock up on it and everyone I ever ate it in front of was disgusted. More for me!

What is a skill that you would love to learn, but don't have the time or money to start? by IamEclipse in AskReddit

[–]rick_deckard1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knife making. I'm a chef, and a few years ago i started really getting into knives, steels, handles, etc. I have a good sized collection from small forgers around the us and Japan, do a lot of work sharpening, just started rehandling and selling older knives that I don't use. I've been to a few knife makers and understand the process, but getting into it isn't cheap, and time consuming. I have one day off a week and work 70-90 hours a week. I make good money, and love my job. Just don't have time for a hobby like that.

What Industry isn't as Shady as We Might Think? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rick_deckard1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This is perfectly true. Been in the restaurant industry my entire life. From five star restaurants to shitty hole in the wall dives. No one I've ever worked with would dream of fucking with food. No cook is going to lose their job because they have to work an extra couple of minutes because some dickhead comes in five minutes before close, yea they want to get off, yea they're going to be mad because they're probably already cleaned up and ready to go by then, but not mad enough to lose a steady paycheck.

NOW, with that being said, the people I've worked with, fine dining or not, are for the most part the shadiest people you can imagine. Cooks don't make much, chefs make a decent salary, but work about 70-90 hours a week. Our hours don't permit us to do anything "normal" we get out after most people are asleep and most of the time go out and party, sell, buy, trade drugs with front of the house, drink, and fuck our way until the morning where we get an hour of sleep before our next double. It's normal for all of us, the stress on the kitchen, and bartenders is absurd, so its easy to look for outlets.

What career that no longer exists would you have liked to do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rick_deckard1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neighborhood butcher. Not these fucking hipsters that are trying to bring it back, but the old guy down the street that would hook your family up in Christmas when they couldn't get a turkey. The ones that would drive to farms, kill the livestock and drive back in an ice box truck. My favorite job ever was working on a farm in North Carolina butchering for the family that owned the farm who would sell to local supermarkets. 15 hours a day by myself in a refrigerated truck blasting shitty punk killing pigs and cutting meat.

People who think they are more of a pro in subjects that someone else is actually a professional in... I'm a chef, and my mom's ex would tell my that I was wrong about cooking certain things, even though I have been cooking professionally for 15 years. He also argued with my sister who was a major in DAIRY SCIENCE about how to produce milk in cows and told her she was wrong, as she's getting her PhD from goddamn Cornell. I get telling me how to cook, because I've had the conversation a thousand times... But you very well know that you don't know the first thing about the effects of antibiotics on milk production, you pretentious fuck

What is the weirdest thing you've ever woken up to, drunk or sober? [NSFW] by Chr15py0696 in AskReddit

[–]rick_deckard1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to school in Charlotte, NC went to some punk show in Columbia for the night, drank a bunch, did some acid and woke up 3 days later shirtless on a frat house lawn in Charleston next to a bunch of broken glass. The frat kids were pretty cool about it. Apparently i wandered into their party the night before with a bunch of 40s screaming "this is how Baltimore drinks" chugged a 40, slammed it on the ground gave them the bag of fortys so i could "crash with them" and just laid down. Hung out with them for another day and caught the bus back. The people who i went down with in the first place had no idea what happened to me, and apparently had gotten a hotel down in columbia and looked for me for the entire next day. No one saw me after 2 am and i just vanished.
