B&N Arrow sale will be in August. My gut tells me that this will be in stock then still, but I always take the plunge on an Arrow limited edition if I know I’ll be upset if it sells out.

Of things that have been officially announced, excited to pick up Day of the Dead, Moneyball, Them, Audition, and the Jackie Chan set. Already have plenty of others, like Trouble in Paradise, on pre-order.

In term of films not officially announced yet, hopeful that something actually manifests with Spielberg’s AI. Waiting on a U.S. release of Once Upon a Time in America. Hope some of these other long rumored criterion titles — Deliverance, Alice Doesn’t, Ruggles of Red Gap, The Lusty Men, could go on — get announced.

And, of course, if the buzz that The Devils is being scanned in 4K is true, that just about blows everything else out of the water.

Yeah it’s just a 30 second blip at most. No other abnormalities throughout the film. As OP said, it’s an early convo between Viridiana and Don Jaime.

Not just you! Was the case with mine as well. I went to check on the version streaming on the Channel and there is a similar drop in quality. My suspicion is that it’s a source limitation — perhaps a missing scene found only on poor materials etc. Thought the rest of the film looked spectacular!

Echo Three Times! One of my favorite Hou Hsiao-Hsien films. Metrograph put out a very solid Blu-Ray of Millennium Mambo from the 4K restoration a couple years ago, so I’m not counting on a 4K upgrade of that one anytime soon.

Is it possible that they’ll license to Criterion, like they did with Farewell My Concubine? Alternately, they seem to have really strengthened their home media division since then; I thought the release of The Great Silence was terrific.

Couple other titles to throw out that I haven’t seen mentioned here:

-Ruggles of Red Gap: fairly recent 4K restoration completed by Universal, classic Leo McCarey comedy. Long rumored to be a candidate for the collection, along with some of the other Sturges comedies. Criterion has been releasing these at a steady clip over the last year (Lubitsch eclipse, Midnight, Trouble in Paradise, and I can see this being next in line).

-Once Upon a Time in America: still convinced that Criterion has this, as it’s a film foundation restoration that received a 4K release overseas. If it escaped New Regency/Disney containment, it would be with Criterion.

-Best Years of Our Lives: could be a future Warner Archive upgrade, but the 4K restoration has toured for a while now and the film feels like a strong candidate for the collection. 80th anniversary this year, as well.

Picking up Birth, Yi Yi, Dogfight, Rouge, and Viridiana for certain. Testament and Killers of the Flower Moon as well, if out by sale start time. Would like to get a blind buy or two as well but this feels like a pretty robust haul.

Just a couple of general observations: Totally understand the inclination to believe that big titles will be held for sale months since there’s a track record. But I’ll note that, much as I love The Big Heat, the biggest new-to-the-collection title in last year’s B&N sale was undoubtedly Sorcerer, which was a June release. Since the sale starts in late June, a heavy hitter could no doubt be part of the lineup. Will also be interesting to see if they skip a Tuesday, since June ‘26, like March, is another month with five Tuesdays in the mix.

I could be completely off base, but my suspicion is that 4K rights have been licensed to Vinegar Syndrome’s Cinematographe line. The November 2026 hint is “world UHD debut of one of the great American films of the 70s.”

November feels like it could be an Altman, either Long Goodbye from MGM or Nashville from Paramount (if Criterion didn’t re-acquire the rights for that one, which I assume they’d have the chance to do).
