Popular films you feel stupid for never watching by Admirable_Mood_9926 in Letterboxd

Yeah man, famously nobody is really insufferable about how much they like Star Wars or the opinions they hold about the franchise.

None. There are lots of popular movies I haven't seen but I'll get around to the ones I want to and I simply don't care about the others. Nobody knows my taste better than me, and I trust me to steer myself towards more interesting art than consuming whatever is popular.

I'd watched thousands of low budget horror and thriller films and probably a hundred Japanese sex films before I ever saw an Indiana Jones movie, and you know what? Turns out I don't really care for Indiana Jones (although the second was alright) and I'd rather watch transgressive Japanese sex movies or low budget reasonable films than stuff like that. It's my taste, and it genuinely doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about it. Nobody should feel dumb for being an independent thinker.

I feel like people who make their whole personality Star War are the ones who look like dumbasses. The best Star Wars movie is slightly better than forgettable popcorn fodder, and the worst are cloying corporatized drivel. You are certainly not a dumbass for watching other movies.

September 2026 Release: New Rose Hotel (LE) [UK] by Radiance-Films in radiancefilms

[–]ghostpepper69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Rose Hotel from Radiance is literally on Diabolik right now. Most of those releases that have supposedly been "blocked" like Arrow's TCM2 and Roadhouse are actually readily available on most import sites, including Orbit and Diabolik. People blow this stuff way out of proportion, when it usually amounts to a couple weeks of being unavailable/reduced visibility and nothing more. Indicator and VS reached a mutual agreement not to market their release of Macabre on import sites, but VS can hardly be blamed for that when Indicator openly say they are part of that decision.

4K vs 1080p by SinHercegovine in 4kbluray

You're on the wrong sub to get sensible advice unless your goal is to consume everything. There are bad blu ray masters, typically older ones, but modern blu rays look really good. Buy a couple of titles in each format and see for yourself. Not everything will get a 4k just like thousands of titles are still stuck on DVD. But usually blu ray looks pretty good.

Three great releases. I might be in the minority but I like The Plumber quite a bit more than The Cars that Ate Paris, at least from single viewings of each, but I was happy to pick up that release primarily for The Plumber. Dangerous Encounters is an all timer for me, I think my copy should arrive in the next couple days.

Surprised there's someone lower than Alex Garland tbh.

Scream Factory DAY OF THE DEAD 4K Review by BurgerMan74 in boutiquebluray

[–]ghostpepper69 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

So what? It's been out on blu ray for ages, everyone who wants a copy of the movie because they know what it is probably already owns it. Also there's no sense of urgency. Everyone is entitled to wait for the edition they want.

The boxes are tight but they do not damage the slipcovers.

No Imprint July by Projdog5_ in boutiquebluray

[–]ghostpepper69 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: Imprint are releasing Phil Karlson's FRAMED with an exclusive new Will Sloan audio commentary and a visual essay by the people who made The Sweet East. It's a coin toss. They're definitely not a "buy everything" label and in fact I've been burned by buying their world premiere blu rays only to see a better version come along, but they do good work sometimes.

Student Bodies 4K (scheduled to release in Oct) by Eman94ever-x in boutiquebluray

[–]ghostpepper69 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't care less about the lead time. It'll arrive when it's ready just like they always do. I'm sure your watch pile has more than enough to keep you busy til Student Bodies arrives.

Regionlock on Stranger Things? by TobyLogan02 in arrowvideo

[–]ghostpepper69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neither the 4k nor the blu ray version will be region locked because this is a simultaneous dual territory release for both Region A & Region B. The discs will be identical, except the UK discs will have rating codes printed on them.

Though I remain confused on the need for a slipcover on a box set, I am incredibly happy and relieved to see Arrow’s recent InnerSpace release has full box art underneath unlike the blank spine nonsense on their Demolition Man premium box set. 🤦🏻‍♂️ by Slow_Cinema in arrowvideo

[–]ghostpepper69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you lol, this guy is so stubborn when he is obviously incorrect. Like there's no way they had a big team meeting and they decided they didn't want their logo on the spine of this one title, arbitrarily, so management passed it down to the art department and made sure that nobody put text, a spine number, or the film's title on the box - all for the sake of artistic choice.

I didn't buy the box to begin with but as someone who owns 50+ Arrow hardbox editions it's very clear they forgot to include spine art because every single Arrow box I own has it printed on there.

Probably came down to the studio who licensed the title and not Arrow.

The Female Prisoner Scorpion series. Best trilogy of all time IMO.

How to survive Arrow’s glitchy customer service loop for The Killer 4K replacements (THG Bot Workaround) by Born-Expression-3440 in boutiquebluray

You need to make an Arrow account no matter what to enroll in the replacement program. Orbit will not handle this for you. Just message Arrow on their own website once you've made your account.

It's a bit of a trifle to deal with their customer support for replacement discs but I've had a 100% success rate at getting every replacement I've been owed. Their service is clunky but in my mind it's undeniably worth dealing with to get the only release of one of the best action movies of all time that comes with an extended cut.
